In what is long overdue WOFL in Orlando is the next FOX O&O getting a brand new set. Currently the evening newscast is broadcasting from the Good Day Orlando set as they are building a new set (possibly from DDG?) Evening anchor Sonni Abatta tweeted to me last night "expect lots of giant monitors" so im going to guess they may go for the look of their sister station here in Atlanta and Phoenix. No word on a timetable for the completion of the new set

Not only that, I'm still waiting on KDFW.

Probably won't happen for a while. Victory Park's second building's first tenant is 'FOX News', and I'm not sure if construction is started there yet.

So both WFAA and KDFW will be in the Victory Park complex?

Two Victory Plaza, the sister building to One Victory Plaza across the street (Where WFAA Is). Pre-construction lease signed by Fox News.

I'm still wating on wnyw!

Not only that, I'm still waiting on KDFW, KTBC, and KRIV as well.

Add WJW to the mix, even as they are now a Tribune station. But they will probably be retiring that set soon, given the new set KTVI/KPLR debuted this week.

I wonder if that might just be the Dallas bureau for their cable news division moreso than something for KDFW.

KTBC doesn't really need a new set that badly, IMO. Yes, the bones of what they have are a dozen years old, but, since the last refresh put in the monitor wall behind the desk, it's actually as high-tech as the Austin market gets at the moment, and the rest of what's there is basic enough that it doesn't look dated.

I like everything except for those producer pods. They just seem unnecessary and invasive - do the viewers really need to see what I am checking out?

If you want a behind the scenes look at how they get a news story, then yeah. But I kinda agree on that, that should be left to the newsroom. Other than that, it really does look amazing.

I think WFTV is the last that has had a new set, like 2006-ish with minor re-tweaks ?

Incredibly stupid. It looks like they are trying to mimic what Fox News Channel built for Shepard Smith's show ("Fox Report?").

The FOX News Deck is what it's called, and it's for Shepard Smith Reporting/Breaking News.

It really amazes me that these stations will spend all of this money on things that absolutely NO ONE cares about. The "Social Media" areas, etc., mean nothing to no one. People tune into see the news. It seems that these days they are making the news serve the sets, rather than the sets serving the news, if you know what I mean.

While some FOX O&O and former FOX O&O are getting new sets are rumored to get new sets. The station that needs an extreme makeover hands down is CBS O&O WJZ/13 for the life can't understand why they haven't updated their look. Hell WMAR just got a brand spank new set and WJZ stuck in 1998.

Blame WJZ-TV's management. They would rather keep things that way because of the management's conservative attitude.

WJZ's space is really big. Enough space to stand a big (evening) and a small (morning) set. If they were to do a extreme makeover, all newscasts would be under one set and I think the Weather Center would have to be twice as big as it is now.

I will say that for the most part the home base area of the set looks pretty good. All they have changed there in that area is the desk. Now the area used for their morning shows is showing some age as is there weather center.

But this set here at WOFL looks amazing. As I mentioned those producer pods look ridiculous if they want a work station or two they should went like CBS This Morning where the anchors and talent can update their scripts. I suspect the social media center will be nixed and turned into a general presentation pod for things like sports.

Didn't someone say on here in the WMAR new set thread (too lazy to go look for myself, ill be honest) say that the reason why they haven't changed anything is because they're paranoid that changing their look will upset viewers enough that they turn away from the station? If viewers like your product that much, getting new graphics or a new set shouldn't matter. There are ALWAYS going to be viewers that don't approve of new graphics/set and think that "there was nothing wrong with the old look," so there WILL be people that think their 1998 look or whatever year it was is fine and didn't need to be changed. Chances are though that many WJZ viewers will be elated that they're getting something new and looking more modern. Older people might not like it, but the younger people is where it's at nowadays.

Those news deck things look like a bad idea. They must be at least partially functional because they actually even put phones in there unlike the FNC ones— how novel. But if I were a line producer, I'd probably want to be in the newsroom where you could talk to the executive producer and assignment desk instead of being all alone in the studio.
