TSSZNews 1052 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The only reason I can think this would even be considered is that 21CF needs money, and fast. Why would they need money fast? You already know.
rkolsen 1685 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Also think it’s to do with the whole Ofcom and regulatory practices over the Sky deal. The U.K. Rey’s may not look to kindly at them producing TV channels and movies.
atlnews2 591 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 so does that mean that Disney would acquire Sky? (if 21CF was given the greenlight to buy Sky from British regulators) what about Hulu? would disney get's Fox's stake ?
atlnews2 591 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 bloomberg says that deal is dead https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-06/disney-looked-at-buying-most-of-fox-talks-now-dead-cnbc-says?utm_content=tech&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-tech
A3N 1002 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 This deal makes more sense for NBCU/Comcast-- especially for the movie studio/production arm of the assets.
LoadStar 364 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I'd almost think NatGeo/NatGeo Wild would net 21st more if they would spin that off into a separate sale. Discovery, for one, would probably salivate at the chance to get their hands on those two, as they'd be a natural fit with the rest of Discovery's portfolio. IMO, A+E Networks would probably be a better "fit" to buy the rest of the "for sale" assets of 21st. Yes, I realize, it's semantics, given that A+E is half owned by Disney, but I could more easily envision an A+E operated FX and FXX than I could a Disney run FX and FXX. (Additionally, having Hearst's capital to help defray the cost can't be a bad thing.)
The Frog 434 Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 bloomberg says that deal is dead https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-06/disney-looked-at-buying-most-of-fox-talks-now-dead-cnbc-says?utm_content=tech&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&cmpid==socialflow-twitter-tech So that's why the news came out now...Disney balked, Fox uses this as a negotiating tactic or to entice more bidders.
LoadStar 364 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 This deal makes more sense for NBCU/Comcast-- especially for the movie studio/production arm of the assets. Even in the current environment, I can't see FTC allowing Comcast to even think about it.
rkolsen 1685 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 This deal makes more sense for NBCU/Comcast-- especially for the movie studio/production arm of the assets. Comcast would make a good fit. I’m not a Disney type movie fan but from some of the Fox blockbusters I know they have made don’t exactly mesh with the Disney image. Universal Theme Parks do have a deal with certain type of Fox properties. I imagine that’s small potatoes. I am a bit surprised that they’d be getting rid of the TV production arm. It’s easier for things to be kept “in house” for both production and development.
DetroitTVNews 66 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 So that's why the news came out now...Disney balked, Fox uses this as a negotiating tactic or to entice more bidders. If this is a signal to entice AT&T to pick up those Fox assets...god only undoubtedly knows.
TheOneManHerd 555 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Christian Pulisic did his best to keep this from happening.
Darius22 122 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Remember what happened to Fox Family? sounds exactly like this almost.
Action Newsroom 1299 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 This was random and overwhelming. I'm actually glad it didn't progress. Fox and Disney do not mesh well, as Fox is more an entertainment company for (mostly) adults (young and old) (and it's surprising a sale of the companies was even done since they are largely lucrative and awards-friendly)...while we all know what Disney is. Some assets are barely good for a Disney sub-company over others. But this deal as a whole doesn't fit. (A3N said: ↑ This deal makes more sense for NBCU/Comcast-- especially for the movie studio/production arm of the assets.) Comcast would make a good fit. I’m not a Disney type movie fan but from some of the Fox blockbusters I know they have made don’t exactly mesh with the Disney image. Agreed. Any successful production company but Disney would be a perfect buyer and merge everything together well.
mre29 1552 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I hope Disney at least made an offer for the X-Men and Fantastic Four movie licenses and/or the distribution rights for the original Star Wars trilogy.
Info Junkie 1286 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Why would Fox wanna sell anyway? Better question is, why are so many big budget Media companies merging these days? First Media General & Nexstar, then Tribune & Sinclair, and now this?
Action Newsroom 1299 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I was on TVForum earlier and saw a member posted this, for another example of The Simpsons doing it.
DonDonP1 118 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 bloomberg says that deal is dead https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-06/disney-looked-at-buying-most-of-fox-talks-now-dead-cnbc-says?utm_content=tech&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&cmpid==socialflow-twitter-tech Hello. Well, in actuality the deal talks are currently inactive, but would be re-active at another time, according to this: https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-held-talks-to-acquire-assets-of-21st-century-fox-1509994869?tesla=y&mod=e2tw
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The Murdochs would have to be foolished enough to sell everything but Fox broadcasting itself. If anything, Disney would be better off shedding some of their properties that's hurting Disney's bottom line than to acquire a company
nickp 339 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I am most perplexed about a post-sale Fox network with no vertical integration
ColDayNews 438 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 In other words, this would make FX a a sister network to Freeform. Why the hell would Fox want to sell to Disney anyway?
Georgie56 3318 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The thought of seeing a Disneyfied 20th Century Fox is sickening.
Darius22 122 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The thought of seeing a Disneyfied 20th Century Fox is sickening. well tbh they've been going back and forth ever since they had that deal with Saban back in the early 2000s which didn't work out.
