MyNewsArchive 197 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Is WTAE the only Hearst station that uses their newscast name "Pittsburgh's Action News 4" as their L3 bug instead of station logo, network, and station ID letters? So does KMBC
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Any idea how school closings will be handled with the new system? The past week or two there have been a few days of closings and they’ve reverted back to the old ticker.
kfc513 238 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Not sure if they got them yesterday or this morning, but WLWT is now using the new graphics. EDIT: I didn't see MyNewsArchive's post.
ScottSchell 372 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I just read on newscaststudio.com that all Hearst other stations will be getting the new graphics package later on this year to replace the current version that they are still using
MyNewsArchive 197 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Not sure if they got them yesterday or this morning, but WLWT is now using the new graphics. The rest of the Hearst owned NBC affiliates got the new graphics yesterday.
HearstArgyleFan90 42 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 KOAT does. KOAT did use their newscast name for their L3 bug, but only when they were using the camera graphics.
HearstArgyleFan90 42 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 As shown in this screenshot, KOAT uses their call letters in the L3 bug.
CaptainNews 287 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Well... WBAL won the graphics race on TV Hill.

panewswatcher69 29 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 re: "Pittsburgh's Action News 4" Are there any other stations, Hearst and non-Hearst, that use the city in their official on-air newscast name?
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 So I’ve caught the opens for all WBAL’s newscasts. They just have two variations daytime and when it’s dark out. When I get the 6PM open I’ll post them all.
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Here's all of WBAL's weekday opens. The video is still cooking cooked.
kfc513 238 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Is it possible that Hearst may have collaborated with Hothaus for this redesign? The animations feel similar to their recent works.

I think it may have been mentioned earlier. I’m not sure - but one things for certain is that this design and the original diagrid have not appeared on Renderon or HotHaus’s website as case studies. I would think either package would be worth posting as they got great reviews and well built. The first diagrid design kicked spurred other triangular themed packages. Edit: NewscastStudio is generally good about posting collaborators in their gallery. It states that this current package was done in house. But the first diagrid was done by the National Ministry of Design. I’m not a designer but Hearst Television Design has been good at evolving the previous package and likely could refresh it themselves. Edit 2: The National Ministry of Design actually lists it as Hearst TV News Package.
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Going through Behance and I can tell you I never seen the WBAL logos used on air. https://www.behance.net/gallery/10266519/Logos

From what I can understand about the previous look: - National Ministry of Design (based out of Boston) came up with the concept and did at least the news opens and background animations. They have a compilation of the graphics here: http://getnmd.com/hearst-tv-news-package - Hothaus was indeed involved with the graphics package, but they was limited to the teaser graphics: - A Canadian firm, DKE, did the first versions of the franchise opens and stingers (I can't find their website anymore) EDIT: rkolsen found those. See his previous post. - Finally, HTV Design (Hearst's graphics hub) did everything else.
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 @kfc513 With all those collaborators I say that is pretty impressive. They managed to create an overall cohesive look when using different companies.

kfc513 238 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 When you said I found those were you referring to the Behance link where it was just logos? Yes. They appeared to be the first-generation franchise transitions/stingers
rkolsen 1686 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Here's their breaking news open. I threw in their Super Bowl Commercial and the 2017 Year Ender.

If this is the commercial that you are talking about, you may be right about them getting the new graphics. Hopefully they will debut the new look next week. *Sorry about the low quality

susquvalleywgal 521 Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Looks like WGAL has some issues with the new gfx and NewsOn app. I’ll sure they will fix this ASAP. — Matt
