WSVN Losing FOX affiliation?

Unless Fox wants to use WSFL in a trade with a third party, this would be fun to see Fox go after WSVN at their own game.

Should Sinclair exercise the options to acquire KTBC and WPWR, that would give them duopolies in Austin and Chicago, respectively. (Do note that Sinclair offered Fox a pick of MyTV and CW affils when they bought WUTB from the network, Fox declined.)

Ed ansin be a man! Cause you don't much time left and sell your stations now!

Do you think he's going to do that? He's not going to sell, even if he loses Fox.

But this is basically the final nail in the coffin, because none of the networks want anything to do with Ansin. And I know this is speculation, but it would be a double whammy if CBS snag the CW affil on WBFS 33.

Well given how old he is, and IF his family may or may not take over the station, the time is now. Besides they're pretty much into real estate.

The KTBC part may run afoul with the Justice Department for Spot Advertising (as Sinclair already owns KEYE)

BTW this thread needs to be merged with the other thread related to the Fox-Sinclair deal

WSVN pretty much was the influence to the tabloid feel on Fox stations’ newscasts. This would be a big blow to the station if they lose Fox.

They might actually have to turn off some of the ten zillion lights in their dance club newsplex.

His next-of-kin, probably. You may never know. But as long as old Ansin is still walking on this earth, he ain't lifting a finger.

What I do want to know is when those contracts of some of the syndicated shows (specifically Wendy, The Real) expire. Fox would love for those show to come over to 39 when those contracts expire.

And philanthropic ventures. $1B+ can do a LOT of good being given to other parties, a lot more than what might happen if they sit on the stations any longer.

As it is, Boston is now a gaping hole in Fox's portfolio and given the choice between buying WFXT for a third time and making a try at the Sunbeam stations the latter may be easier. Get a proven name in Miami, upgrade in Boston, and have all of your stations in the Top 20 markets O&O. Fox has entered the realm of Screw You Money and NBC did all the homework Fox needed to do to strike with a unsolicited high bid he just can't say no to.

I'll say this right now: Ed has more to lose saying no than calling it 55 good years and accepting whatever Fox offers him for the whole shebang.

Probably around 2020 i guess.

You're forgetting that new Pai media ownership rule of allowing a duopoly of two top-4 stations under a case-by-case basis. That's what Sinclair is doing in Indy (WXIN/WTTV) & St. Louis (KTVI/KDNL).

Yes, but that rule has run into problems at the DOJ, given that Sinclair was forced to terminate its top-4 waiver proposals in the Piedmont Triad (WGHP/WXLV) and Harrisburg (WHP/WPMT) and sell the lower-rated station in both duos to Standard Media.

And hello to Fox 39 South Florida.

If Warren Buffett ever decides to sell WPLG to ABC, Miami/Ft Lauderdale could become an all O&O market.

Disney does not but tv stations. Never going to happen.

Ay! They need to stop this cold Turkey of not buy stations, So far the profits from two of the biggest movies, and its soon to be acquisition of 20th century fox. They HAVE the balls to buy stations in big markets what, dare i say is stopping them? Tax reasons?

Of course there is another scenario.

For ABC to aquire WPLG they would have to trade WTVD in Raleigh and KFSN In Fresno, and as a side bar convince SJL to cough up its former ABC owned Station WTVG in Toledo to Berkshire and later spun it off to Graham Media.
