I personally agree with his opinion, but I also know Tegna tries as hard as it can to be impartial, especially compared to other station groups. So this obviously isn't a good look for them and hence the result.

One in Spanish Fort Alabama, decided to reopen and got their hand slapped by the state health department.

WPMI is owned by Sinclair. Kind of a go figure. If any other group owned WPMI, Greg Peterson probably would have been fired for violating state law with his side venture.

Owning the business itself is ok, but deciding to make a spectacle for all of the other media to see, and openly defy the laws set forth by the state is another story.

It's setting the agenda using your own business as a "victim" all while earning another living reporting the "news" of the day.

 

Remeber the Station night club disaster?  Jeff Derdarian was a part owner while doing a story for his own station about night club safety that ended horribly wrong.

Three words; The Station Nightclub. WPRI's reputation, even in a quiet market like Providence, was killed for over a decade because they decided to promote a reporter's venue for a simple story about nightclub safety that could have easily be done somewhere else, and their error of having a cameraman there trying to get 'the shot' cost them $30 million and a number of lives. If you're at SBG you're ready to put someone like that on an indefinite suspension for questionable overall judgement.

^ This right here. WPRI was wrecked for a time and despite amazing graphics looks and talent they had, this one event wrecked them for a long time. I think it even caused WLNE to spike to second in some timeslots to surpass WPRI. Obviously now, it has changed because WLNE wrecked themselves instead of improving and its back to being a two-station market again with WJAR vs. WPRI with WLNE still not a factor.

The Station example was an extreme example on what could possibly go wrong. 

 

If anything down here, it just energizes the locals even more who have been cooped up in their homes for the last month or so and want their "rights" back.  Lots of rogue businesses have taken matters into their own hands and seeing the law swoop down on them once the word gets out.

 

Even if Greg Peterson gets a slap on the wrist or even suspended or fired, it won't mean much in the grand scheme of things.  Basically they're the 33/40 of Mobile since Alan Sealls is there now.
