The network bought WLII-TV in 2002, converting into an O&O and rebranded as Univision Puerto Rico from OG Teleonce. Despite early success in the ratings, it since declined thru the 2010s, cutting back local programming and running more imported network content. Its more infamous moment was when the network shut down its local news department in 2014. The network since sold the station to Lieberman Media Group in 2020, while retaining its affiliation, en route to its 2021 renaming. In turn, WAPA went thru a rebrand in 2007 (from Televicentro) and since then has been the leading local station on the island. Even Telemundo PR, which went trials and tribulations in the 2000s (cutting back local news and programming) has since been reinvested by NBCU/Comcast and solidified into the #2 station, improving local content. Coincidentally, TelevisaUnivision still owns its former sister station WSTE-DT 7.1, which is essentially an informercial station for more than a decade. It used to be a notable local major station for years, first as Rikavision, then Teleluz and later and most famously as Supersiete thru its time. T/U is moving its content to the station starting monday night 7p, with a fuller schedule starting Tuesday with the return of Despierta America to the market. It'll retain its Teleisla local branding at this time. Its schedule is a mix of Univision/Unimas content on a single station. Meanwhile the agreement between T/U and Lieberman (Tele 11) runs out this wed 12/31, despite scrubbing out Unimas content from its local sister subchannel 11.2 earlier this month. TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Our first big retirement announcement of 2026... WTVT's Lloyd Sowers. This comes from the BIG 13 Facebook group and will be leaving on January 5th, just one month shy of 39 years there. During his time, he's gotten to work with a legit WHO's WHO of WTVT and Tampa Bay television veterans.
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Actually, I got another retirement... the amazing, legendary Beau Weaver. The voice of Good Day Sacramento, WPLG in my market of Miami, KDVR Denver, and others is retiring and was featured on GDS as a result. 2 1

Do Atlanta residence know what Hot 97 is, or does it hold cultural significance to them? High doubtful (it wasn't even memorable when it was the WB/CW affiliate in Columbus before it became a Pappas orphan like WIWN). This feels like a vanity project where someone thinks must-carry on Atlanta cable means that it's a magic wand to attract viewers, not knowing that WATL, WPCH and WANF already has that audience (and WUPA still has spillover), or can't stand Atlanta's gossip scene. If Hot 97 TV lasts a year, I'd be shocked. On 1/1/2026 at 12:06 AM, TheRolyPoly said: NO. Turns out, I was wrong. Easy to explain as it was moved from KCCI's MeTV channel (where it's aired since 2016); they didn't air on Saturdays to stay out of Svengoolie's way. Obviously even without the need to work around Berwyn-based hijinks, there too Fox overruns make it a nightmare to maintain a Saturday at 9pm newscast. 1

WLII was an Indie from 1960-1981 (went dark during this time) and from 1986-2002. Granted, times have changed since then, but I think WLII is capable of it, just like the 10,000-ton gorilla that is WAPA.

WHAE from 1971-1977 (CBN; Independent) WANX from 1977-1984 (CBN; Independent) WGNX from 1984-1998 (Tribune from 1984-1998; Independent until 1994, then CBS), the most famous era before all the Meredith stuff came through. Meredith's ownership... WGNX from 1998-2000 (CBS Atlanta - WGNX 46) WGCL from 2000-2021 (CBS Atlanta, Clear TV, CBS 46 - Atlanta's NewsChannel, CBS 46, CBS Atlanta, CBS 46, you know the mess) Gray's ownership... WGCL from 2021-2022 (CBS 46 during the transitional phase) WANF from 2022-present (Atlanta News First; CBS until 2025, back to being an Independent) I know... no bullet lists, but a point had to be made. I hope you enjoyed this little history lesson. 4

I believe the prohibition was on lists of the "Here's a list of stations" variety, not specifically bulleted lists. More importantly, though, that wasn't a list. It was a timeline in outline form. As far as I'm concerned, the prohibition doesn't apply. 1 1
