WSAZ's 10 o'clock news on sister CW affiliate WQCW no longer uses CW branding. Surprised they're not doing "WSAZ+" or something akin to what WKYT does with their CW news.

A pre-emptive move in case CW moves to WOWK?

One more WSAZ post I swear: Studio 3, WSAZ's daytime talk show, updated their graphics for the first time since the 2019 launch. Different from the package the rest of the network uses.image.thumb.png.3f8289055fb17c7032a1c925015f1ba8.png

That's the Meredith lifestyle package. Gray kept it after the purchase and used it for their stations.

Why does the 6 looks like the Pre-Fox era logo?

It was the logo WBRC once used as an ABC affiliate & for a short time when it switched to FOX thanks to the New World mass affiliation switch across many markets after FOX got the NFL in 1994. The '13' in the FOX 13 logo of O&O WTVT (Tampa) is another example of this predating it's time with FOX by a few years as a CBS affiliate.

WBRC has joined the GrayONE club.

The new look can only be seen on their online-only newscast at the moment as it hasn’t debuted on-air just yet. You can, however, see the new logo on their weather subchannel.

WBRC is lucky that they can trade on their heritage since they've been a dominant station throughout their existence.

Others like Fox 8 in New Orleans, Fox 10 in Mobile, and especially Fox Carolina are going to be interesting to see how they re-brand without "FOX" in their name.

If you saw the bug on the 6 News Now intro, the Fox logo remains in the station’s logo alongside the revived ABC-era “6”. So, unless they plan to keep the network logo but deemphasize the “Fox” branding verbally or modify the logo to remove the Fox logo once the package officially launches, it seems like the “WBRC Fox 6” brand will remain in place.

WVUE and WALA have kept their Fox branding after switching to the package; to date, Gray stations that have dropped network branding have usually made the change before (like with WMTV and KOSA) or when they switched to GrayONE. Fox has stricter branding guidelines than other networks, and has been pretty selective in allowing affiliates to eschew network references (like it did with WSVN, WDRB, KVRR, WFXT and, before Fox bought it and to a lesser degree, KTVU), so it’s unclear whether Gray will be given the same license to deemphasize network branding.

Oh, oops. I guess I was just super pre-emptive as I'm aware GrayOne has been stripping most peacocks and eyes and ABCs out of the logos. They finally updated to the current CW logo at least.

WYMT is currently changing their First Alert Weather Now stream, and tweaking it with GrayOne assets. It's reloading with a new placement for the graphics about every 3 mins. Not sure what the final design will look like.

WMTV has a new VO person for almost everything replacing a very long time VO, sorry I don't know who both are (something I don't care about a whole lot lol). Heads up for your guys, this might be a sign that the station is getting new graphics in the near future.

WBRC has finally debuted GrayONE on TV.

Confusingly, despite the Fox name being dropped from the news branding, the new on-screen bug kept the old “WBRC Fox 6 News” branding in the new logo style and old design layout. So, either this was an oversight or Gray wasn’t sure that Fox would give approval for the station to remove the network’s branding when GrayONE was being retrofitted for WBRC’s use, and the original intention was to keep the previous title in place before Fox gave them the greenlight to alter the station’s branding.

It seems more like a compromise.  Brand the station as FOX to satisfy the network and the longtime viewers used to "Fox 6" ingrained in their heads.  Otherwise, play out the WBRC 6 heritage in the new branding to let Gray do their "local first" thing....

They've always done a great job of branding with the red WBRC, tied to their visible sign on their building on Red Mountain.  Working the old "6" in there is even better.

WYMT have "accidently" teased one of their GrayOne Graphics today at 6. Will probably be similar to what WSAZ got considering this stinger appears. (Hoping they stick with blue because I'm not really a fan of WVVAs GrayOne colors.)

WYMT is technically joined at this hip to WKYT (simulcasting some of their newscasts), so they'll get a variant of what they have.

I wouldn't call it accidental... WNEM used the GrayONE First Alert Weather opens for a couple months before they switched over...

Thats my bad, would have edited the message if I could. It also seems it appeared in the 4 and 5 newscasts as well.

No worries -- a lot of times, you'll see hints of new graphics packages coming (I'm assuming the tempates are in process of being updated) but the old one still remains 🙂
