Greggo 358 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 KPRC tweaked its initial 1994/1995 set (the one that corresponded with the rebrand to News 2 Houston) multiple times before moving to the KPRC News Center, a working newsroom set based upon WSVN’s, in 1998. Even when they dumped the newsroom set and moved back to a more traditional one, it remained the newsroom with many of the fixtures still in place until the building was replaced and then demolished on the same lot about 5 years ago. 1

BDI did the studio set and the desk for the KPRC newscenter.
MorningNews 1483 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 The newsroom set from KPRC is one of my favorites ever.

5OnYourSideMan 85 Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) I mentioned earlier that News Desk 2 had of the WEWS 1995 set had 2 different backdrops apart from the sunrise backdrop used for Good Morning Cleveland. Both these images shown have that monitor. Desk 2 with original skyline Desk 2 with skyline featuring Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Edited March 19, 2022 by 5OnYourSideMan

MediaZone4K 2235 Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) CBS Evening News (late 80s to about 1991). Love the black background, wish the color was used more in news these days. Edited March 17, 2022 by iron_lion 3
5OnYourSideMan 85 Posted March 19, 2022 Author Posted March 19, 2022 (edited) WOIO's 12th Street Studio. This is something Good Morning America & The Today Show got to use in terms of Street Side Studios. WOIO still uses this 12th Street Studio for certain things like during the pandemic as a set to be used for social distancing. MediaZone4K 2235 Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) NBC Nightly News (1991) my favorite of their various newsroom world map backgrounds. Love that the background changes based on shot, so studio segments dont look monotonus. Third image: I'm surprised the background had depth. I assumed it was flat and we'd see the newsroom from that angle. Edited April 26, 2022 by iron_lion 2 1

These days that same map and location would be used graphically with highlights. On 3/26/2022 at 1:25 PM, iron_lion said: Good Morning America revamp (1999). I know people say "oh that doesn't work today" with the old morning sets but you can still have some depth and warmth to a set and have some of the heavy use of technology used today. A perfect example is the 2013 Today set or the 2005 GMA set when they went to HD. 2

The weather desk from the 1997 version and the 1999 refurbished version is currently used at the University of Akron in Kobe Hall for their Z-TV. Before that WVPX used it for PAX 23 News. The 1997 version had blue borders on the windows of the Cleveland Backdrop and the NBC logo on the front of the desk. The 1998 version darkened the walls to a red color. Here is the 1998 version with it's changes. Edited August 15, 2022 by 5OnYourSideMan 2

Justin Hill 42 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 I like the attempt at a news set/newscast with news graphics and a logo modeled after ABC News, "PBF News," from WPBF 25 out of West Palm Beach, Florida in the mid-1990s: 1

I remember as a kid GMA having the worst sets. Too me they were also so....outdated. Like a grannys attic or basement. Or they felt like a old living room full of brown furniture. They were never distinctive, just old and full of old dusty stuff. I dont remember this set in particular, but i remember them always having this "feel". This set looks like a old furniture store full of closeout furniture that hasnt sold. NBC Today always felt fresh, new, urban and modern. Still not a fan of GMA. ABC News sets always felt "off" to me. This includes the graphics. Though I was a fan of Peter Jennings. 1
