I've lost track over the years since WPLG was sold to BH....How much of the station is still operated by Graham or is it basically a perpetual outsourcing agreement?

It's an LMA. It's what Nexstar does for Mission stations, especially WPIX, but because it's only one station, instead of all of them it flies under the radar.

Looks like WPLG debuted their new set this midday

Desk is nice, set is in line with their previous abstract looks but it still sucks. What is that shape? South FL? Too many video walls, way to common of a trend on tv now.

Welp, at least its better than their early 2010s set🤢

The one positive is that the dark lighting masks their previously cheap looking HD. It's also better than the overly fluorescent lighting on TV these days.

Other Graham stations looks way better. Wish they drew inspiration from these and added a tropical Florida touch.

That feels A. Very European. B. Super cheap.

European done in all the wrong ways! Look at France 2's set, SVT Rapport, Yle Uutiset, TV2 Denmark have use similar ideas, big desks, curved walls, newsroom shots, and repeated colors, and pull it off 10 time better than this!

Not to mention Graham is small enough for such an arrangement, and it's BH's only TV station, so their continued assistance keeps things status quo.

I support WPLG trying to break the traditional set mould but BLEH. Best set in market is WSCV/WTVJ or WSVN.

Looks like this is what they were aiming for but fell short of. Image from New Zealand. Not quite Europe, but the influence is there.

Honestly, a little riser in front of the curved wall on the WPLG set would help it like with TVNZ, maybe wood or black with a white border.

I give them credit for trying something new. Is the red a bit harsh? Sure. The Dante's Inferno comment made me laugh. But in an era when most stations are swimming in a sea of similarity, I think it is excellent that Local 10 is branching out.

The set will also evolve. How they use that LED wall in week 1 will probably look different than week 101. So while it isn't my personal favorite, I applaud their creative thinking.

Totally agree. I appreciate the effort to be different. I wish new stations would look to sports networks like ESPN for how to do sets.

EDIT: IDK this is the kind of set where it's not great but it's interesting to look at.

@sfomspphl: I would almost take this over WABC set just based off lighting, but I get your point.

If Local 10 tinkers a few things and adds more furniture they could have something better.

The way they use video and graphics behind the anchors is creative, and the fully seamless screen gives a lot of flexibility.

Hard to watch that deep red all over, but when they go blue or other backgrounds it's very watchable and something distinctive. Beats the sets in a corner look. But not quite ABC O&O kind of timeless professionalism.

I give them props for trying different things in order to stand out. But that video walk is almost overwhelming because of its size. I hope that they tinker with the set and make some minor adjustments. I’d like to see a riser behind the desk or something.

I did notice that the weather center is unchanged.

WPLG has new lower thirds to go with their new set.

WPLG was inconsistent in rolling out new everything (except for music). New set came first, then new opens, and just within the last week or so, new graphics.

Now I'm not saying that's the right or wrong way to do, but WPLG was inconsistent.

At least WSVN's new everything back in 2015 launched everything new at the same time: new Newsplex at the time, new version of its music, new graphics, new opens, new everything.

WPLG wasn't ready to launch everything obviously and it clearly showed over the last month or two.
