Breaking News 825
Not to be critical, but many of these have been previously posted. (the Cincinnati stuff) You do realize you have to go back so far, and there a few WCPO/WLWT that were posted on youtube this year. Most of the time I don't go all the way back or have the time to check every selection out. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175058 Share on other sites

Info Junkie 1286
My hometown of Albany, New York is like Oklahoma City when it comes to finding old news footage. In other words, there are some clips from TV Stations but very little. Here's what I can't find yet: WNYT: Anything pre-1985 (including their WAST days), 1988-1991 (when they used "We Know What Matters," the NMSA has an audio sample), and 1991-1994 (during the early days of "Newschannel 13"). WTEN: Pre-1984 (when they used "Hello News"), 1986-1988 (during the early days of the "Right at Home" era), and some late 1990s clips are missing (when they began using "Primetime News"). WRGB: Anything before 1981 (when they were an NBC Affiliate), 1989-1993 (the first era of "Making a Difference") and the later days of "NewsCenter 6" (mid 90s-98) WXXA: When they launched their News operation in 1996 to 2000 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175295 Share on other sites
Jess 1115
Given it's been a decade since it first got posted, and I can edit the OP and thread still, I moved the goalposts a bit. So, just as oldies/classic hits stations have added more recent music to the playlist, this thread is now good for anything up until 2008. I chose that date because that's A.) when standardization really began, and B.) HD became a standard. Keep posting those older videos, though! That's what makes this thread shine, and I don't want that to be lost like the older songs on said oldies/classic hits stations. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175318 Share on other sites

C Block 1566
This presentation style debuted in 2006, so that counts. C Block 1566
Also, seeing as Dan Rather is experiencing some surprising and renewed fame on social media, it's cool to revisit again his very last CBS Evening News broadcast, which someone recently uploaded again to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT9BcuDsPyo Though one of my favorite minor details about Dan Rather's story is one that comes from this profile about him from a decade ago: But the anger was seething just below the surface. The next night, Rather’s last as anchor of the CBS Evening News, he wore a T-shirt under his suit and tie that read F.E.A.—“Fuck ’em all.”[/Quote] Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175327 Share on other sites
Ntropolis 596
Keep posting those older videos, though! That's what makes this thread shine, and I don't want that to be lost like the older songs on said oldies/classic hits stations. I feel like there's been a dry spot in new classic video lately! Hopefully those with ways to capture can scour for VHS tapes on Craigslist, eBay, their local thrift shop, etc. Always cool finding new stuff. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175331 Share on other sites

Info Junkie 1286
Don't think this has been posted yet - this is an evening newscast from January 4, 1983 on WFSB and WTNH. A WFSB open appears halfway through, using the pre-1984 Gannett graphics (you know, the red & blue lines crawling across a black screen with random shots around them). 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175357 Share on other sites
KnoxvilleTVFan 286
Gotta love the WFSB open. Didn't know that WFSB used the pre-1984 Gannett graphics, because I do know that KMST in Monterrey/Salinas, CA used the graphics during the mid 1980s. Onto some rare video. From 1986, here are a couple of news promos for KCAU's "Major 9 News". The theme they used at the time was "Tuesday1" by Tuesday Productions. The station used an interesting logo which can be seen at the end of this video. Here is some more of WANE's "News 15". This time, here is a vintage newscast from September 18th, 1985. Here is a full KCST newscast from October 12th, 1986 (three days before my 2nd birthday). The newscast begins at 2:21 and features a KCST/Storer closing logo at 28:46. You gotta love the closing theme they played at the time. But wait, there's more. Here is an entire WPDS newscast from June 7th, 1984 and this newscast aired not too long before the station cancelled its late newscast. One more clip and it's VERY rare. We take you back to March 1987 where we feature a KTVE newscast from this period. The news close can be seen at 15:24 and features an unknown news theme. Anyone know what it is? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175370 Share on other sites

Samantha 2895
Here's something: a short KCCI clip from 1991: And four years later with some by then tired CBS News graphics: (The Lary Lane Morgan story dates this clip to 1995, not 1997) WWTV/WWUP in 1986 (see KLTV 1985): WWTV/WWUP used Tuesday's Action News in 1991: WNEM in 1991, I have no idea: (That's not the 1987 theme) 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175388 Share on other sites

(@Raymie) On another note, note the theme used in this KLTV snippet. This is in the NMSA as the WDIO/WIRT 1985 theme, and it must have been production music, because KLTV 1985 was definitely in use alongside it (seen at 1:43). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=41_QU87K79Y;m=1;s=12 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175500 Share on other sites
Samantha 2895
Yup, I immediately recognized this from Kirk Varner's writeup! Heck, I even remembered the "ten minutes" line. I was expecting a stripey classically 80s "did Gannett own this station?" desk, and did 'FSB deliver! 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175504 Share on other sites

TServo2049 81
KLTV 1985 really sounds like something from Dallas. Not sure who though. TM? VTS (who recorded their music in Dallas)? That KLTV 1985 clip is certainly an interesting mix. You also have Bill Meeks' "Spirit of Oklahoma" from KWTV on the IDs (no relation to the KOTV "Spirit of Oklahoma"). And the animation looks very similar to WFAA's "Spirit of Texas" ID animations (though whether it's the same production house, I have no idea). I also wonder if KLTV is related to the mystery music KXAS used for news tease IDs in 1983. I've seen IDs both saying "5 Action News" and "5 News", but no actual newscast footage from '83 has yet surfaced. That music is too short for me to make a judgment, but it is one of the first things I think of when I hear KLTV 1985 (it has an almost identical 3-note statement at one point). Of course, the first thing I think of when I hear KLTV 1985 is News '80s, which it resembles (but definitely isn't). 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/151/#findComment-175659 Share on other sites
