TheRolyPoly 2362
WAGA newscast from January 31, 1999 (well it starts there and flows into the beginning of February 1) featuring coverage of the Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl XXXIII loss to the Denver Broncos. Worth noting is this also marked the debut of WAGA's new set. Right after the series premiere of my favorite show, Family Guy. hmaxhanson 650
Right after the series premiere of my favorite show, Family Guy. I just hope you hate the really bad ones like everyone else..... Clips of the LA TV channels after the Northridge Earthquake (the first 14 min are from a camcorder recording a portable TV): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyc9sCBegXs Believe it or not, this is my 300th post on this site! 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207276 Share on other sites
Samantha 2895
A three-part series on the early days of KPAX (1975-88). The station signed on in '75 but didn't begin any local production until two years later, starting up inserts in the MTN News then fed from Great Falls. A full-on local newscast from Missoula was introduced in 1986: 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207336 Share on other sites
Info Junkie 1286
I’m now on Jacksonville! Keep in mind I am possibly not going to update the WJXT opens though or any existing news open compilations from other channels, but I will be doing existing TV markets that don’t have any compilations. Also after Jacksonville I’ll be doing Cincinnati. And yes, JPMcFly1985 has some WLWT open compilations on YouTube, but I’ll be adding the ones post-2000. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207362 Share on other sites

That WJKS one is pretty darn good-- I think it's one of the few times (maybe the only time) I've heard the Cool Hand Luke/NS2000 music on a then-NBC station! 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207372 Share on other sites

E. R. 66
Not sure if this was posted anywhere else in the forums... KIRO-TV, 1985, an Eyewitness News promo from the "News Specialists" campaign. The music (believed to be by Klein&) has evolved, and is now accompanied by an orchestra, giving it a more lush and bolder sound. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207482 Share on other sites
Info Junkie 1286
KTVI must’ve used the Chris Crane pack for a year I guess, cause we now have the first version of its Eyewitness News open. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207484 Share on other sites
ToriElectra 292
KTVI must’ve used the Chris Crane pack for a year I guess, cause we now have the first version of its Eyewitness News open. I've never understood why they dumped the awesome Chris Crane music for Gari's EWN-- the Crane package would've really fit in given that they had just switched to Fox, but instead they chose to go with a package designed for ABC affiliates, which they weren't one of anymore. Doesn't make any frickin' sense. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207485 Share on other sites

More from that same station too: Btw if I do plan on updating existing news open compilations KTVI will definitely be on that list, and so will WRTV and all the Cleveland stations. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207486 Share on other sites

This time from a June 1997 edition of its 11:00 a.m. newscast, from after the switch to the "Fox 2" moniker. T.L. Hughes 881
The graphics in the KDNL clip clearly are a mod of the Ellis Communications graphics from that period, but more or less closely resemble the mod of said package that WSMV got about a year or two earlier. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207495 Share on other sites

WWUpdate 1291
Speaking of Elvis' death, here's that day's news from Antenne 2 (now France 2); the King's death is covered extensively, but the top story is the resumption of Concorde flights to New York: It's not TV, but this is how Elvis' death was announced on the English service of Radio Luxembourg, the legendary pan-European pop music radio station: 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207499 Share on other sites

Here's an aircheck of highlights of the last weeknight Area 10 Eyewitness News: Man, I don't know what was going on at WAVY in the late 70s/up to this, but it sure seems like they wound up in a timewarp for a while. I mean, comparing the seemingly near-zero budget of a lot of this look with - to quote a promo from the era, it's "the difference between night and day". 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207502 Share on other sites

The music (believed to be by Klein &) has evolved, and is now accompanied by an orchestra, giving it a more lush and bolder sound. I wonder if some of the reorchestration was done by AM Music (Steven R. Allen and David C. Maddux). There's a relevant Copyright Office entry: "KIRO news, the spirit of the N. W.; K I R O radio and TV news Christmas song." (1984) The follow-up theme KIRO 1989/1990 was also done by them, we believe. AM Music also has a "KEZI TV theme" to its name and the original music theme to Almost Live!. Also, that KNSD look had to be so upscale for '88...it still holds up after thirty years, though more as a period piece. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/260/#findComment-207509 Share on other sites
