KDKA 11pm October 1989

They had started using some refreshed harder hitting cuts of the mid 80s KD and You package for the bumpers and close - no more jazzy sax for the close.

WCBS 2006. Big visual improvements to graphics and set over 2003-2005. The skyline lookes better than the plain blue backgrop they had for a while. I dont recall this graphics era but it looks good. By 2007 the station would be back on track after going off the rails since about 1996.

EDIT: Dare I say this graphical look is better than their current.

Yes, visuals are decent (not a fan of using Trebuchet as a font) , but that opening theme sounds like a train wreck of multiple cuts…

Some KPRC-TV videos from 1980:

Big 2 News Conference (5/4/1980)

And here is one from '85, a late edition (Fri. May 30); not sure if this was shown here.

KCRA Channel 3 Reports 5pm  12-14-1983 (most...cuts to KOVR at the end) - earliest use of 'where the news comes first' theme I've come across

audio is on the 'right' audio channel - 'left' channel is another station (KXTV?). Use the balance control in your settings to hear either one.

Yes the logo at the end DOES look comic-book-like. In fact, this news open almost looks as if this was made for a live action kids show instead of a local newscast

WMAQ, Chicago; weekend, 1979:

A very interesting billing variation with this WMAQ Chicago weekend edition: "Terry Burhans with all the weather, and Mike Lederman reporting on sports."

Merry Christmas!! A new KAPP find from Christmas night 1997, with Lucinda Kay.

And for good measure, the Nightline that followed. Enjoy some music from the Harlem Boys Choir. They sing three Christmas songs on this broadcast.
