A look at KSTP’s weekend news in 1990. Includes Stan Turner and a young Scott Chapin (as in his first years VO’ing WSVN young).5 points

I hate Mark Hyman and his views and his must-run segment. I've always wanted that to go off-air... But not this way. Not when he's suffering from a brain tumor. I wish him all the best in his recovery. I don't wish on that to anyone, no matter how evil they may be.4 points

Yep, that's studio 3. The desk is where the interview area used to be. A lot of remnants from the old news set are there if you look closely. Overall, it looks pretty good for a weekly half hour show.4 points

From the same channel, but in 2003, a morning news opener and closing segment with a bit of its theme.3 points

José Rodrigues dos Santos closes RTP1's evening news on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 (Father's Day in Portugal), as we see him from a giant screen installed atop the roof of RTP's old building in Lisbon. It reminded me of NBC Nightly News and Times Square.3 points

Did not need to see Jerry shirtless, but they delivered just that in tonight's exit interview.3 points

As a smaller market station, there is no incentive to cut costs there since they are already much lower than at the bigger TEGNA stations. Plus, their competition is a joke in comparison.2 points

Some highlights in this video include news stories from WSNS, KMEX (I think it's the same as the one I shared sometime ago, but with better audio), KUVN and KCEC. Circa 1996. Speaking of WSNS...here's a news open that's unique to this station from around 1999-2000.2 points

Even if I don't agree with Hyman's views, I still want to wish him the best recovery.2 points

I'd like to say I just threw this together tonight, but no. I've had this nearly ready to go just for this occasion...2 points

. For sure. Heck, I'm not sure they even moved those pieces. Still, it looks pretty snazzy.2 points

No, and I don't think Ann would ever agree to come back no matter what kind of money and contract they throw at her. She has moved on. NBC can't force Ann to come back if she doesn't want to.2 points

Also, WCPX "6 Believes in You" is another one that Ed Peters told me about some years back. It was in use concurrent with "Determination"; it wasn't used as a news intro, but it was used as a news closing. There has been a 1985 close on YouTube for a while (right now there's a full 1985 newscast), with an instrumental-with-vocal-tag "6 Believes in You" as part of one of those "local people on camera" closings (I wonder, was this a concept originated by Peters? Or was it a Magid thing? It obviously outlasted Peters at WXIA, all the way until their complete station image refresh around the fall of 1993.)2 points

I wrote this post over at TVForum: I picture this as an intermediary open. February sweeps and the Olympics are coming up so change maybe on the horizon. They’ve had the current graphics since September 2013 with a few tweaks here and there - probably the biggest was when they stopped shooting for the 4:3 safezone and set the AFD flag to letterbox it in SD. However it’s not the worst design decision they had in the past decade:2 points

Holy bleep. I can't believe I'm saying this but... PBS is back in Puerto Rico! For those who don't know, WMTJ Channel 40 was taken off air due to Hurricane Maria and went off-air forever. However, according to Wikipedia, on Wednesday, December 20th, WMTJ returned to the air via Liberty Puerto Rico (a cable provider there) and some of PBS' programming was seen on Channels 3 and 67 and in HD on channels 203 and 267. On Monday, January 2nd, just months after the supposed farewell to the station, WMTJ actually resumed regular over-the-air broadcasting operations via WSTE-DT (Teleisla) and can be seen on the same channel 40.1 from the transmitter located in Aguas Buenas. In other words, that transmitter is now home to both WSTE and WMTJ, even though they broadcast on different digital channels (WSTE is 7 and WMTJ is 16 but is moving to 15). So yes, PBS is back in Puerto Rico. Wonderful news for a country still reeling from Hurricane Maria. DISCLAIMER: I'm half Puerto Rican so I had to share this and this is wonderful news for public broadcasting.1 point

Negovan would be my pick as successor, but I wish they'd give Ben and Lourdes the 6 o'clock hour. I don't care for the evening news falling under a singular brand, and there's no reason why that competent team only has an hour while every other anchor duo sits for at least 2 per day.1 point

Very similar to WTOG's graphics from the same era. WTOG was WVIT's sister station for that brief period between the WNYT/WHEC trade to Hubbard and WVIT's sale to NBC.1 point

Only way I ever see Ann returning is long form programming docs etc. I was just thinking the other day Ann would have been a great co-anchor for today in the Barbara Walters/Jane paisley time frame before the cooking and entertainment sections of today really took over the program. I like Ann but that was never her strong part. General News, long form and international was always her strong areas. If they gave her Sunday Night and had her own prices that could have worked1 point

We'll Meet Again is hosted by Ann Curry and is coming to PBS on January 23rd at 8pm ET/7pm CT. In other words... YES. Ann Curry has moved on.1 point

This is just an hypothetical opinion question, so be nice in your response. If Megyn Kelly decided to leave Today or NBC decided to move her off the 9 am hour Do you think NBC would ever consider bringing back Ann Curry and doing ANN CURRY TODAY and give her her own show? Prior to Matt determination, I would never thought NBC would bring her back, However I feel that if NBC brought her back it would be a great PR move for the Network and it would be very highly rated because everyone would watch at first out of curiosity. Logitically I think their would be several things NBC would need to do first before they even consider doing such a show. First, they would need to develop a good format, and help her develop a good show. This is something I was thinking about, and is just hypothetical. NBC has invested a lot in Megyn Kelly and I doubt they would want remove her or she would want to leave after only 1 year. Also this would depend on Ann Curry wanting to come back to NBC, which she may not want to.1 point

They are doing some experimenting tonight. Tom Negovan is doing the night shift tonight while Ben Bradley is live in studio doing reports.1 point

KAKE and Chronicle’s other two Stations WOWT and KRON were all known to use 2D graphics that were way ahead of their time for the station images. KRON in the mid 90s eventually went with a TVbD package that still looks good today. Still wish we had more of KAKE from the 90s, will be bumping The Wish List thread for stuff from Wichita...1 point
