  1. A fantastic KENS close from 1985: WJZ's Eyewitness News from 1992 — the 11pm open with the candelabra tower top animation:

  3. This quote really hits the nail on the head: [Marvin Zindler] says TV news is a "kindergarten game of show and tell. You show people and then you tell them what it is. Journalism does not show in the dictionary, I don't care what dictionary you have, as having anything to do with television or electronic media. I say it's show business and they all get mad."

  4. The FNC graphics are their own ball of wax, but I've *never* been a fan of the creative and brief of Fox O&O stations, with a few exceptions like the KSAZ satellite dish open set. It's tired on a meta level.

  5. FOX treats WNYW like trash. They treat KTTV better than WNYW. And at somewhere in heaven, WHBQ must be calling heavens on earth for getting dumped by FOX for COX. WHBQ was trashed under FOX and treated like royalty under COX. Amazing times we live in.

  11. The big problem with subchannel news is three things; people who shun you because you aren't airing what's on nationally at that time (probably one reason Hearst can't make their MeTV shows work), lack of promotion, and horrid advertising. WITI couldn't sell an ad to save its life on Antenna TV when they had to shift the regular shows there during the World Cup, so it was a continuous loop of PSAs and the occasional national class action ad. And most of the time whenever you try to market a network the way it wants to be (Justice Network wants you to air local pieces, the long-dead TheCoolTV wants local artists to submit videos), nobody cares. They just see it as another place to watch reruns of a certain genre or don't even think of it as an OTA subchannel, especially on cable.

  14. One website? I've not seen or heard of one before. You get scattered reports from industry mags, local papers, and blogs, but it's very likely that's as much as you can hope for, for now. Especially since a certain firm named Nielsen likes to be tight-fisted with their data.

  16. Shep signed off after 30 minutes of, what he called, "a special edition of the FOX 5 News at Ten". He said if the engineers can get the computers working again at WNYW then Steve and Dari would be anchoring tomorrow night.... wonder if things will be back to normal for GDNY?

  19. I know it was announced a month ago, but I think STIRR is a ridiculous name. Is it an acronym for something? I would also assume the entertainment shows and movies will be coming from MGM like Comet & Charge.

  20. I need to check but I think FTVLivea tweet earlier in the thread said it came from the Fox News building. I’m not sure but I assume the weather graphics could be loaded easily or already available for Fox News reporters who file reports for stations. Sometimes weather computers handle chroma keying internally and have the ability to choose router sources. The weather computer if it was set up to handle keying internally could easily select the correct camera and output the right program. Assuming the cameras and the distribution system were still up they could easily send it back to Fox HQ.

  22. Damn the gfx looks good, can WNYW adapt that + make it their own, please? Their gfx now is tired at best. Hell is it possible shep can make 'special editions' of the 10p news down the road? looks so polish. And you're right NCFLMedia, WNYW is trash because FOX treats them as such. The building, the set, computer imploded (basically they're archaic, no?) dated graphics, the MUSIC. Add on others if you want. I recorded in its entirety thru youtubetv (the other half hour was FOX Fall Preview with Martin Mull) I'll see if i could rip it off as such.

  23. Shepard Smith anchoring from FOX HQ tonight.. said computers "imploded" and thats why FOX5 is off the air. They are using FNC graphics and all.. with Fox 5 reporter live shots. I'm wondering if in reality it has to do with the construction issues

  27. WBAL seems to make it work on MeTV enough to do a 10PM newscast 7 Days a week. They’ve done weekday 10PM newscasts since March 2012 and on weekends going back to at least March 2016. They did do a 7AM newscast in 2011 that lasted until 2015 when it was exchanged in favor of a 4:30AM newscast on the main channel - from what I understood the cancellation may have been contractual (the success of the 7AM show led them to create the 10pm). They also heavily promote the 10PM newscast in their 5PM show and in ads through out the day. From what I understand the 10PM is very competitive with WBFF’s 10PM newscast. Also it helps that atleast in 2016 that WBAL was the highest rated MeTV affiliate.

  31. Promo for WWHO’s 10pm news - 1995. Originally entitled News 4 Prime and later the WB-53 10:00 News and finally NewsChannel 4 at 10 on WB 53... it was produced by WCMH from 1994 to 1998, until NBC sold the station to Paramount/Viacom. NBC, for a time, stunted with an hour of news on WWHO. After the 10pm news ended, a same-day repeat of EXTRA aired from WCMH... this was before the Leeza Gibbons era of Extra and it became all celebrity fluff. It was originally anchored by Cabot Rea and Jane Yamamoto until 1995 and they were replaced by Mike Jackson who remains at WCMH to this day and Deena Centofanti who is now at WJBK. 10pm news didn’t return to WWHO until 2005 when WBNS entered into a news-share arrangement with them under Viacom. It carried over through the sale to LIN.

  42. Thus creating one of the biggest "what could have beens" in the history of network television news; as CBS was reportedly planning to add her to the 60 Minutes team in 1973 (as it was, the first black member of the 60 Minutes team would be when Ed Bradley took the spot vacated when Dan Rather was promoted to CBS Evening News anchor; while 3 years later Diane Sawyer would be the first woman to be a correspondent for the series). Also among the dead in that crash were Illinois Congressman George Collins and Dorothy Hunt (wife of E. Howard of the then-brewing Watergate scandal; reportedly carrying about $10,000 in hush money)

  45. I'm hearing rumors, new rumors out tonight, that WFMJ may FINALLY get into the 21st century themselves by launching a 5:00 p.m. newscast. No official word on that yet (or even if its just a half-hour or a full-hour) but if it does happen, you heard it here first on TVNT.
