  1. I can tell you the most likely scenario - a producer somewhere felt it "needed to be special"! That is how stations go off-brand 99.9% of the time. (The other .1%, well actually considerably larger than that, is when sales sells something and doesn't let the creative team know so now we need to shoehorn a massive heating and air company logo into a 7-day forecast banner or ticker design... and you won't even be able to make it out... but hey, it's added value so... )

  5. It's time for a graphical and studio update. 3K looks so barren, even before the COVID desk modification.

  6. Get well Al! Not you too! Been wondering about Barbra. That's sad! All the legends I grew up with (Regis, Alex Trebek, etc..) and am now old enough to appreciate, are passing away. Hopefully Ann comes or is invited to the 70th. She was a critical part of that show. I read an article sometime ago in which the writer remarked that NBC's biggest mistake was bringing Ann to the anchor desk, to begin with. Do you all agree? Ann put in her dues as news reader so she was due for elevation to the seat. I will say that she didn't have as much chemistry with Matt , as did Katie and Meredith. Once she left, plus the format changes, and the studio redesign, Today's quality decline was cemented for me.

  7. Lori does her best on GDNY. IMO, she's better suited as a straight anchorman as she was on WABC, rather than a breakfast show personality like Greg and Rosanna. I wouldn't mind her at 6. If this is a thing, I hope she gets a co anchor, rather than going solo. What's the general feel about Steve and Dari? It feels like they just speed through whatever's on the teleprompter with no "presence" or "persona" added (for lack of better terms). I'm surprised Dari (and Steve) have lasted this long.

  10. ABC News midterm election coverage of The '78 Vote; has Frank Reynolds in New York, Max Robinson in Chicago, Howard K. Smith in Washington, et al. Here's what the Chicago bureau looked like on that '78 midterm coverage (wide shot showing more than we usually see):

  11. I can agree on Matt, but not necessarily Ann. Norville was let go under similar circumstances as Curry, yet the bad blood has boiled down to the point that it has completely gone away as she was present at the last anniversary.

  12. I'm sure if she was up to it, she would have been on ABC at midnight on New Year's Day this year to say "This is 2020".

Some WTMJ imaging from the last weeks of NewsChannel 4, the following month, Today's TMJ 4 would be born: KSAT 12 News tonight before they introduced the famous tabloid open for that newscast: An almost complete edition of CBS This Morning from December 23, 1996, taped off WJMN with WFRV newsbreaks:

  17. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by Tweet pages, but his Twitter account has not been removed. It's still there. https://twitter.com/lipoftv Instead of broadly claiming he is biased, the more appropriately thing to do would be to cite specific instances in which you feel he stated something biased. If you have examples, please share them.

  18. Yes. Her last public appearance was in 2016. she is currently confined to to her apartment and allows almost no visitors except for close family. Very sad! Her family and manager had not made a public statement about it. Biggest dictator is that last year Sheri Sphered and Jenny McCarthy made comments last year suggesting she not doing well. A Big indicator of her deteriorating health was the death of Hugh Downs and Regis Philbin this year. She and Hugh had been friends and working partners for 50 years or so. She was also very good friends with Regis for decades. She did not make any kind of statement on either of their death and no statement was ever put out on her behalf about their death.
