  1. For the record, here's that newscast, with the introduction to Springer's commentary beginning at the 13:30 mark: Ron Magers would anchor his last newscast two weeks later. Here's more on the events from that May on the website set up many years ago by former WMAQ reporter Rich Samuels: https://richsamuels.com/nbcmm/era.html

  2. I understand the building is an albatross, but...wouldn't you just let the real estate side of the business handle it and just keep the move going? Is a real estate transaction in Denver such a big deal for Scripps, they would be bankrupted, give up the ABC affiliation, shut down their news division, and become a Katz subchannel farm if they couldn't sell one building? Also the tone of this from the GM...nobody in the news and old entertainment divisions of the stations designed or built it, and this basically sounds like he's mad at them for his 'collaboration' issues in 2021. Finally...get real. Outside the few folks who need to see the public file in person or come in for an interview, 'access' to a news studio is not paramount. They're probably going to lease a boring office building's middle floors nearby and nobody is ever going to visit them.

  3. Continuing with Carol Marin's archives, here's her appearance on-set with Dan Rather on 9/11, plus reports from the following days. She's clearly in shock in that first spot. And then there's this. Carol was interviewed on many broadcasts, post-resignation, Good Morning America Sunday with Bill Ritter, followed by CNN's Reliable Sources, and Tom Snyder's Late Late Show.

  6. Not just later that year, she left just a month after this broadcast. And while they never permanently anchored a show together at WLS, this is from their final show together in 2016, just months before both retired.

  7. WMAQ, Chicago; 10 p.m., 1984; BTW, both anchors would eventually join WLS -- Linda Yu that same year and Ron Magers 14 years later:

  8. KNDO News 23 Late Edition, 4/6/1992 (partial). Jim Lewis is the anchor. He was at KNDO in the late '80s and early '90s timeframe. https://archive.org/details/capture-a-529 KAPP 35 commercials aired during The Thorn Birds on 7/20/1993, but also includes the first two minutes of Northwest NightCast at the end. Kevin Shaub and Tyffani Peters are the anchors. I believe NW Nightcast originated from KVEW Kennewick and not KAPP. https://archive.org/details/capture-a-522

  9. Dominant in the ratings, with one of the greatest teams ever assembled. From the newsroom, it's The 10 O'Clock News. (8/26/1980)

  10. Evidently, this video suggests what the NMSA labels as the "KNTV 1985 News Theme" was intended to be used by (if not composed for) WDVM. And speaking of which, here's two opens from KNTV, which does use the theme and with Collier Concepts' animation work, so it doesn't seem like a waste. 6PM open (unfortunately someone - the person recording the tape? - overdubbed the open): 11PM open: And of course, KGMB used it too (sourced from a documentary, which I'm also posting here): And the accompanying promos:

  12. Two newly unearthed classic Abliene opens on YT (with hopefully more to come!) KTXS from 1988 using a Tron-esque graphic and the "Spirit of Oklahoma" theme: And KTAB using some kind of orchrestra piece of music:

  13. I see News Nation is down the middle I don't see any bias in there news coverage. Rome wasn't built in a day and I'm sure Nexstar knew that there was going to be growing pains along the way, I watch News Nation a couple night a week largely the last half hour.

  14. On Spectrum cable in Southern California, the on-screen channel guide listing still shows WGNA (and a very small blurry NewsNation logo that nobody can see). I have a 77" QLED tv in my bedroom and can hardly see it. Also, the Spectrum app lists just WGN AMERICA in the channel listings. How is anyone even supposed to find this joke news network?

  16. WTKR CBS 3. June 1999 under New York Times Company Ownership (Now a E.W Scripps Station) with custom tune Ignitor. This is one of my favorite moments in this Station's history and This was also before their ratings free fall in the "Your" Era.
