Social media reaction isn't going to get you a job in Los Angeles. He's done in market #2.5 points

He maybe done in LA, But I am sure he’ll be able to find a job in another Top 10 market. Local Management at KTLA will more than likely change after this as well. The way all this transpired is textbook “How Not to handle Personnel Issues.”4 points

Initially I thought “Mark has balls” and management must be chill for approving his message. Then he got suspended and I was confused because even after management informed talent not to speak about Lynette on-air, Mark advertised on Twitter informing he was going to talk about her the following morning at 8. I just assumed management knew because surely if I’d seen Mark’s Twitter post someone inside must’ve seen it too, right? So Mark has his rant, shaming management for not allowing Lynette to say goodbye, then just a bit ago, I see in the LA Times, Lynette didn’t want to say goodbye HAHAHAHA. Why tf didn’t Mark know this? Now he looks even more foolish IMO. To get fired over all this is insane. It demonstrates he’s not mature and a loose cannon. No one else in the market will hire him.4 points

Judging from the social media reaction, the audience (regardless of the professionalism of the event) is firmly on Mark's side, which will probably help in his efforts to find work. Gonna be interesting to see what steps KTLA takes to regain audience trust after this clusterflust.3 points

Here’s the Twitter post referenced in today’s LA Times article. Good insider take on a crazy week at 5800 Sunset.2 points

KTLA will be fine. It helps that their competition at KTTV happens to be in perpetual local news hell. The LA Times story to me makes Mark look like an absolute moron. Lynette declined an on-air goodbye and Mark instead aired dirty laundry that Lynette might not have wanted out herself. The awkwardness of that segment aligns with the portion of the article talking about how Mark went off script and betrayed his colleagues’ trust.2 points

I didn't mean to be so critical of church programming in my original post; I do agree that televised services and Mass for Shut Ins like what's done in the northeast and reasonable asks for donations...I never have an issue with that. But I just loathe the national tele-preachers who push multiple products and giving pleas onto their viewers. And for Osteen, who literally bookends his shows with Lifelock/Norton ads, nobody needs that.2 points

Is it because of the time she interrupted the Masters for severe weather coverage?2 points

It is. There is a South African version, but the one I usually see on TV is the Canadian original.2 points

You might want to read that part of the article again. The LA Times attributed Lynette “declining to record a farewell” to news director Pete Saiers, the same man reportedly responsible for causing the low morale at KTLA. Keep in mind, this is also the same ND who oversaw KING as it tanked in the Seattle ratings. Unless Lynette herself clarifies it, I’m not trusting a word of his. That said, it seems that the weekend crew actually planned a proper farewell, and he alone went off script. Also, if it’s true that Mester was the one who hired that plane without informing anyone else, that’s truly moronic on his part.1 point

Something tells me that local KTLA management may follow him out the door over this as well.1 point

It’s bizarre that he felt the need near the end of his post to say it was his choice to leave. Pure ego. Um, you’re going from Detroit to Chicago. It’s a clear promotion. No need to explain yourself other than you being afraid someone might think you were demoted … to a bigger market.1 point
-
Um, no. Look at her social media and tell us it’s appropriate for someone in her position in a Top 10 market. It’s “ME. ME. ME.” She even blocked FTV because he’s called her out before for posts she’s made. (And yes … I know others have blocked him too.)1 point

Most of the time if an anchor is signed away by a rival in the market, he or she becomes a non-person immediately, without any on-air retrospective. And any viewers contacting the station to ask what happened are met with the curt "So-and-so is no longer with the station and has decided to pursue other opportunites." In 2005 the folksy weather forecaster Johnny Mountain was bid a fond retirement farewell from his morning shift at KABC. Four months later he was at KCBS. And got big money. There was speculation Channel 7's management knew he'd be going down the street, but let him say goodbye anyway. Or maybe not.1 point

But now some west coast stations are doing at 6:30 airing national programs that might be the real live west coast edition. Do you still might get a tepee show at 5:30pm. Are you in Seattle?1 point

Patrick was the best fit for the mornings. It seems like the management don't like his anchoring style, but they love the robotic Kate Chappell. I'm sorry, she is not anchor material.1 point

Are we saying in so many words she is another Stepheny Fisher? (in the fact that so many want her gone, why I'm not sure she's just a morning metrologist, which like most morning crews, are more laid back)1 point

KDKA had the Eyewitness News name until '96, 'BZ had it until '93, and 'JZ had it until either '17 or '18. It would be nice if the EWN name would make a comeback on KD, BZ, and JZ. And personally, I wish my home station had the EWN name in DFW.1 point

Excellent choice by KWCH. They needed to get rid of the Media General-era logo, which made them look like a Nexstar station.1 point

Considering Mester praised Drafs at least twice that I can recall in that 5-minute rant, it seems pretty clear she was likely going to allow some sort of goodbye and was overruled by corporate. Maybe pre-recorded. Who knows? After yesterday’s stunt, yes, Drafs probably is pissed — and rightfully so — because she got dragged into this on air. He even showed a picture of Drafs with Lynette! It makes her look bad, like she doesn’t have control of her staff. Unfortunate all the way around. I will say it is interesting to see how the others reacted. Telles seemed uncomfortable but supportive. The two fellas were just plain awkward, with one not saying a single thing and the other rambling for a short bit before getting cut off.1 point

On the one hand, Nexstar is a big station owning company with a small market mindset. Lynette Romero’s goodbye could’ve been handled much better than it was. In hindsight, not only was Lori Stokes allowed a goodbye in NY; Roz Abrams, Ernie Anastos, and Amy Freeze were able to leave on reasonably good terms when they left stations for other opportunities. Lynette Romero should’ve been given a bit more acknowledgment for her years of service, and KTLA/Nexstar blew it. IIRC, she was working there without a contract, and they owe her for that. On the other hand, is Mester’s suspension really all that surprising? If you badmouth the company you work for, of course there are going to be repercussions. It doesn’t matter if that company is Nexstar or NBC. He’ll be lucky to have a job after all of this. I still maintain that there were better (and smarter) ways to give a proper goodbye to Lynette Romero without A) making both local and national management look bad and B) making it all about you. It was a needlessly foolish gesture on Mester’s part. Also, FTVLive is reporting that “KTLA management” (read: local management) isn’t happy with Mester either. I’ll reiterate that I don’t like Scott Jones’ antics and petty behavior, but he’s usually on the money with these kinds of stories.1 point

Pluto TV, XUMO, Tubi, Live TV from The Roku Channel, Peacock, Stirr, Distro TV, Plex. They all offer "Live TV" channels inside their apps and most channels are just as equal or miles better than what you get on cable. The only downside to that is live sports, that you still need cable for. Lmao.1 point

The channels on Pluto TV, which is FREE look better than channels they want you to pay 150 bucks for with the cable subscription. That in itself says a whole lot.....unless that was the goal in the first place.1 point

I'm glad they gave Wolf an extra hour and left Erin and Anderson alone, for now.0 points

I don't watch televangelist TV. Joel Osteen doesn't need another 5 or 10 new affiliates for his megachurch sermons. HOWEVER...I believe that if a local church wants to stream their services on YT or Facebook for those who can't be there, think about the older audience who are in nursing homes/etc. who also can't make it. Thus, make it available for a 9AM Sun slot on a local TV station as well. In TX and a lot of southern states, there's at least 1-2 churches minimum that sell time on local TV. Here in eastern WA, not so much.0 points

22 WPNT in Pittsburgh is airing now at 10 (where it used to air) instead of iCrime. I thought SC was pulled out of syndication? Obviously a sudden change not reflected in the web listings yet Ugh. Just for Laughs belongs at 3am. Such an awkward show, you know it's South African because nobody talks- just generic goof music. As a Christian I disagree that Preacher TV would be thar horrible. With that said I don't see the local news bubble bursting, throw on stories from the network feed, repurpose stories from othe dayparts and bam collect the local $$.0 points

If those 1/2 million were a majority 54+, then they've done their job in making the audience younger, or at least made the 70+'s flee the timeslot. Plus it's a soap opera site so of course they're going to be giddy about it losing women; NBC likely wants a 50/50 mix.0 points

Don’t forget KPIX too. I’ve always felt the Eyewitness News name was a better fit for CBS stations as their logo is an eye. And the Action News name would be a better fit for ABC stations solely because they both start with A’s.0 points
