  1. I agree. Watched a few episodes of Today in LA when Lynette took over. It seems like the Today in LA cast is trying to be more like KTLA- personality driven. It doesn't work with the cast currently constructed...comes across as a little fake. I hope they gel in the coming weeks and the growing pains can be worked out.

  2. A better question: 3. When do we think they'll blow up HLN and turn it into something that isn't 79% true crime shows?

  3. CNN This Morning now has a promo. Key line for me is when Poppy Harlow says "We need to cover more, what is happening across America." They also mention needing to inform viewers in either 5 or 15 minutes. Seems to indicate it will be less focused on DC politics and a higher story count (which is what New Day has been doing lately). Background graphics at the end seem to have light wood tones, and the three anchors are in a well-lit cafe with brick walls. Wonder if either of that hints at the new graphics or set.

  4. Let me first remind you that WSHM-LD recently moved to WGGB's tower some weeks back. And its contour expanded as far south as northern Connecticut (close to Hartford). And with a larger height, it should be reachable for those southern areas you've mention. As for that WWAX-LD move to Hartford, that Circle diginet has not been cleared in that market. But that might not be the only reason they want to use this LP in Hartford. It'll be interesting to see what they'll do with it. With the Peacock & Weigel in the market, there's not much diginets to grab. ____________________________________ New Callsign for Channel 9 Freeport. It is NOT WIFR. It is WSLN. No word on when it'll light up its new full power signal. But the callsign (if approved) will go in effect on 10/26.

  6. The creator of this thread has been inactive on these boards for over two years. Let's rename it.

  7. Long overdue IMO. Not that Dana wasn’t a good solo anchor, but Dick Brennan deserves the spot. This also helps on days when one of them is off; the other anchor can just do it solo instead of having the 5pm team fill in.

  8. I hope it is permanent. Dick deserves a spot at the desk full time. I guess now every station will have 2 anchors at 6 again.

  9. Great points. You’re right. The whole announcement was sort of vague, and they didn’t make any reference to Dick being in the spot on the newscast tonight. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  10. Very interesting! I can't tell if this is permanent or not. You would expect Brennan to say something like "I'm joining the team" or "from now on, I'll be with Dana." It feels like he hopes it's permanent but maybe it's just a trial for the next few weeks through the election.

  11. Per this Instagram post, Dick Brennan is joining Dana Tyler as co-anchor of CBS 2 News at 6, starting today: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cj0wcxpDblD/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Interesting move. I like the idea of coanchors, but Dana has been solo at 6pm for so many years now (since Chris Wragge moved to mornings after Rob Morrison was let go, which I believe was in 2013).

  12. Interesting, when Tribune was in a retransmission fight with Optimum years ago, they actually blocked access from Optimum IP addresses. You can watch CW shows on Hulu.

  13. It isn't really coincidental. The new guys running CNN used to run CBS This Morning.

  14. The first episdoe of the new Showtime series "Let the Right One In" uses a simulated newscast from WCBS.

  15. Honestly, KNBC would've been insanely dumb if they didn't promote the hell out of this.

  16. A little thirsty on KNBCs part, but I get it. Taking advantage of the moment. Let's see if Lynette and Adrian can lead Today in LA back to the ratings dominance similar to the Kent and Kathy era.

  17. Very happy for Lynette. She deserves this moment.

  18. Tamsen would be fine in smaller doses (not literally every evening broadcast)...everytime I see Kaity on the weekends (although I'm grateful she's still on the schedule at all) I think of how she was back on weekdays in 2016 only to be dropped within 6 months or so. Even if they just gave the "evening news" (6:30pm) program to her or the 6pm it would draw in many viewers and give competition to the Dana Tyler/Chuck Scarborough/Bill Ritter (and formerly Lori Stokes) fans. PIX has definitely gotten worse with the constant morning changes too (why switch Craig to weekends only to switch him back to weekdays and completely demote John; the Betty Ngueyn story etc etc); I frankly given up understanding their logic for it. Dan has been the only real constant since Suki left. It's nice they're getting a new studio but I really hope they get to improving their broadcasts and stop changing talent (particularly in the AMs) constantly; I feel like the more you move talent around like that the more likely they are to just leave all together.

  19. why is Tamsen Fadel still there they need to replace her she is awful

  20. Curious to see what Gray's plans for the station are.... Could Telemundo Cincinnati be in the future? Maybe even something related to 3.0. it's basically been a subchannel repository for the last decade or so after losing out on the CW to WKRC 12.2. Speaking of WKRP, when's the last time that show's been shown on TV? At least the DVD release restored a lot of the original music that was stripped from later TV airings.... And one last thing, my fellow babies....

  21. We're not gonna rehash this in another station's thread. Romero is now at KNBC. KTLA is in the past.

  22. But no proper goodbye, no proper people believe they gave her a low ball offer.

  23. Sounds like she left on her own terms.

  24. New M&A. The LP acquisitive train continues to roll...... Cincinnati's WBQC-LD (known for its branding "WKRP-TV") was owned by Elliot Block, until his passing in November 2019. It has since been operated by a trust. Gray is going to snag this LP for $2.5K.

  25. I think Lynette has a great presence and NBC4 is lucky to have her. It was HER choice to leave... she was treated fairly and even asked to stay with negotiation as has been leaked. She took a new role best for her AT THE COMPETITION. PERIOD. Nothing else is owed. Admittedly, there could have been a warmer recognition of her departure (re: the choppy statement Sam Rubin was initially given to read on-air) so loyal viewers saw she was respected BUT it's a business. What is really happening here is a newsroom in flux (which ones have not been at some point) is having their internal negativity known to the viewer. All talent has the right to do is their contracted job. KTLA's problem is they let their newscasts become personality driven even off the morning hours ... now that leads to problems when trying to apply rules and standards.

  26. I've aired my grievance before about Brenda Blackmon and Kaity, and I'll say something similar about Muller. It's a disappointment that his tenure in the evenings didn't last (while Tamsen Fadal's still there) and that he was pushed off to weekends (and she wasn't). They should've kept John on weekdays and demoted her. I previously found Tamsen an okay anchor, but now I must ask... What do they see in her? Why is she still where she is? And what is so important about her that the execs insist she's their main face of their news op -- when better is right in front of them? Does she have an ironclad contract or something?

  27. NBC uses/used three locations: the current CNBC world HQ in Englewood Cliffs, CNBC's former space in Fort Lee that is where WNJU/ WNBC's NJ bureau is based and the former MSNBC studios in Secaucus that now houses MLB/NHL Networks.

  28. Patrick Healy is retiring after almost 40 years. His last day is December 31. https://www.nbclosangeles.com/community/veteran-television-broadcaster-patrick-healy-retires-from-nbc4-after-nearly-forty-years/2769800/?_osource=SocialFlowFB_LABrand&fbclid=IwAR1I6q7mbroAnyntY0Nq_4af85mcV5OITWipCG3ZK8_norEq_npA1iHVhgw

  29. Why would any affiliate want that? There are more potential viewers for local news at 10 than at 11; in the Central and Mountain time zones the news is more heavily watched at 10 than at 6. No, I think NBC's affiliates will demand the time for themselves (NOTE: there's no such thing as the access rule anymore so Sunday night football could run past 10 without complaint; it is consistently THE number one show, period). Now some NBC affiliates are going to have problems against established Fox-affiliate newscasts (such as WXIA against WAGA or WVTM against WBRC), but a powerhouse like WRAL should be OK. CBS is saying it's not giving back 10--for now. ABC may be the first of the two to follow NBC's lead.

  30. Well, earlier this year it was announced that they renewed Forensic Files II for two more seasons, so it looks like we might be stuck with HLN's current formula for 2 more years.
