  1. I'm curious about what they're doing with the newsroom, and if it's going to be used for CNN This Morning. As previously mentioned, shows that has been using the newsroom are in a temporary set (I think a different corner of the AC360 studio). I haven't liked CNN's newsroom sets in New York, both in the old Time Warner Center location and at the current Hudson Yards space. They look like boring offices with some monitors. I miss the old newsroom at CNN Center, which really felt like it was designed to be used on TV. I think part of the difference is that the New York newsrooms use robotic cameras, which really gives a different feel to the broadcast.

  2. All of this will make for a perfect story line on season 3 of The Morning Show

  3. And previous listings suggested December 5th. As the holidays approach, I think we can safely assume that the program will not fully debut until January, unless credible info suggests otherwise. A suggestion for all users- since the launch date as moved several times, and it's all led to needless speculation, I'd recommend that we only post dates that are officially announced by the station, though probably not from their online guide. Press releases and anchor postings, ONLY, please.

  4. At this point ID has actually jumped to low 20s-30s on most cable systems so it's no longer a big priority as it was in the past, plus there are many customers who sort their program guides by channel name these days (and YTTV, Hulu and Sling don't bother with channel numbers at all), so HLN and ID aren't that separated by that much in that mode. A channel merger does make sense eventually but it has to come with more than just one network cut down. I do miss sets with a busy background replaced by just being in front of a Jumbotron/fake brick set and calling it a day. Of course in 2020 and 2021 it would've looked very barren and empty with everyone telecommuting, as the NBC News and CBSN sets did.

  5. The memo in the FTVLive Deanno story linked here said they’re conducting rehearsals on the new set for “the next several weeks”, so a January (or February) launch is more likely.

  6. It's a shame Sheba Turk is coming to KCAL, but they got a good one. WWL continues to flounder.

  7. Since this is about budget cuts I wouldn’t be surprised if Colleen is solo at 11. Pat Harvey and Marc Brown are both solo at 11 on 2 and 7.

  8. Wonder if it has anything to do with the NBC cuts as NBC has offered a voluntary early retirement package. Who will succeed him? Keith? Johnny?

  9. I wonder if there may be more happening behind the scenes for ABC to have taken them off the air after having a few days to look into this last week and over the weekend.

  10. KOCO was a Combined-Gannett station (5 Alive) until the trade to Hearst in 1997, so this wasn’t exactly derailing anything here.

  11. Here’s a great Washington Post column on how ABC is mishandling this. https://wapo.st/3Hkvzkz

  12. Will they have a farewell news segment for the news veterans? They made such a big deal when Paul Moyer got laid off and the station was not on best of terms with him when they did that. He was at a golf course, while Colleen and Chuck were trying to give him a send off.

  13. Wow, this is insane! I also grew up here with all these familiar names. It’s too bad. Layoffs seem to be occurring in so many industries. Despite a hiring freeze, ABC7 has an opening for a general assignment reporter; I hope one of the KNBC folks can hop across the street. I’m glad Colleen is staying and I hope they don’t replace Chuck with Robert Kovacik; perhaps Michael Brownlee can move up. But wow!

  14. Wow! As someone who has grown up in Southern California, this is huge! Easily over 100+ yrs of experience walking out the door. Chuck spent time at KABC. Angie and Kim were at KCAL before coming to KNBC. Vikki is the longtime Orange County Bureau Chief. Bev is one of their lead nightside reporters. Strong on breaking news. Used to fill in on TILA Weekend back in the day.

  16. Sorry but this story was bound to garner significant attention regardless of what ABC did. The story itself has all the makings of a high profile scandal that all media love.

  18. It would have remained a story, no matter what ABC's decision was. If they still anchored together, every interaction would be scrutinized leading to many new tabloid stories.

  19. Another WRC-TV retirement: Would be appropriate if it snowed on his last day.

  20. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them retire together…and you’re right, that would officially mark the end of an era in the Toledo market. Diane bridges the generational gap between “legends” like Gordon Ward/Don Edwards/Jeff Heitz and the current state of Toledo as a “starter market” for TV. Diane Larson is SOLID. She brings a level of class to the Toledo market that will never be seen again. When Diane and Lee retire, I speculate that the playing field levels a bit with WTOL. (Especially if WTOL keeps the Melissa Andrews/Jeff Smith pairing going - though Melissa Andrews is NO Diane Larson, or Chrys Peterson for that matter…but I digress.)

  21. Definitely well deserved, and I think its a first in the market, First Black Woman Chief Meteorologist, she would've been my choice as well! I am surprised, because I definitely thought Bryan Van DeGraff and Steve Rudin (Who has been at WUSA, WTTG, and now WJLA) would've had the position!

  22. It will be the end of an era when one or both retire as they've been the only duo since I started following the news.

  23. Agreed. CBS News Sunday morning actually used the JFK assassination in a report to display the overuse of breaking news versus actual breaking news.
