My apologies for not fully explaining myself. That said, I'm not sure what you could've got from my statement that's any more nefarious than another user suggesting that an 80YO might not provide stability...which is exactly what I meant. Let's face it, a person at such an age has a far greater likelihood of suddenly becoming "unavailable" to host the program than almost any other candidate being considered. If that makes any of us ageist for suggesting that, then so be it. As for calling it an uncited rumor, the poster that brought it up didn't include any article suggesting Behar's aspirations. It's not anyone else's job to go hunting for such a headline to back up someone else's post, which at first glance, sounds kind of crazy. The user should've linked to it. The notion of Joy, with zero legitimate news experience, whose political leanings have been on display for decades, moving to anchor a news program, is more than a little out there. If Gibson (almost 80) or Sawyer (77) announced they were returning to everyday GMA, I'd raise an eyebrow. If a politically-charged comedian (Oliver? Stewart? That type) announced their desire to get into straight news, I'd raise the other eyebrow. It's the combination of her age, paired with her lacking credentials, that makes this a bizarre idea that the network shouldn't even give a second thought to.6 points

Because they want stability, and an 80-yr old isn’t gonna provide that. And a matter of correction, she works 4 days a week, as she has Mondays off.4 points

It's also a news-focused program. If we were still in the Michael/Keke/Sara days, no brainer, go ahead and have Joy come in (not that any of those three had any scandals at all so this wouldn't even be happening without a pandemic forcing them off). But unless the only thing she's hosting is a "Joy's World" opinion segment or Steals & Deals...no, you don't want a comedian hosting a news show. Demarco Morgan deserves the job, meanwhile. Been following him since his WISN days. Pay the man his due and let him lead a network show.3 points

Hoping it's a Matt Quinn design. This could be a much needed improvement for their legacy and Raycom stations.3 points

I don't like this. I was actually just watching some of Maher this morning and was reminded of how much I dislike him. He doesn't offer any unique insight, spends a lot of time complaining about younger generations based on very exaggerated stereotypes, and "both sides"ing everything. And he seems disappointed that his in-studio isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Feels like a bad fit for CNN and a lazy choice. Not producing anything new, just taking something that HBO shot earlier that night.3 points

No, @mountainave was saying that they've had a steady, single team filling in for weeks, and NOT the revolving door that you stated you don't want, that they're already NOT doing.2 points

In all fairness all newscasts sensatonalize to a degree, especially in the mornings. Today is just as bad but their news product is slightly better. CBS Mornings but moreso CBS This Morning had more news value, and even their fluff pieces were more informative. You'd get real sit down conversations with authors, athletes, creators and experts. CBS Mornings and the old CTM feels less dumbed down than GMA and less rushed than Today.2 points

First from the Discord: Scott Jones reports on his Patreon that CBS News & Stations is dropping The CW from its duopoly stations in protest of the LIV Golf deal. (h/t @24994J) UPDATE: Source.2 points

As I am sure everyone knows, I for one welcome this new era. WBZ, when I tune to you, I better hear CBS News Boston being announced. Okay...maybe they'll stick with WBZ News. But you know, you never know. But I understand that not everyone here is welcomed to this change. The call letters, the number, the font of it on the logo, it's iconic. And when you see it gone, for some, it's like a sad thing. It's like losing a nice painting you had in your house for years. So, I feel for you guys that may not like it.2 points

Also, the same station that chose to air kelly clarkson at 3am in favor of Right This Minute at 1pm.1 point

To me it seems like they have settled on DeMarco and Rhiannon and it's just a matter of making it official. I don't think the possibility of him leaving in say 3-4 yrs. should disqualify him from getting the job permanently.1 point

Yes. That would be redundant to Chris Wallace's interview series indeed. I can imagine, however, a scenario of Gayle King occasionally hosting interview specials with celebrities and newsmakers on CNN, like what the late Barbara Walters used to do on ABC, for example. On the subject of Wallace, while his series is interesting to watch, at times, I have never understood why CNN does not use him in a full time capacity covering politics. It seems more like his wheelhouse as opposed to a generalized interview show with high-profile guests. CNN is losing a golden opportunity by not using one of the best in the business at covering politics on a full-time basis, in my opinion.1 point

My only issue with Demarco is he doesn’t seem to stay anywhere long. Not good if you’re grooming someone to eventually take over the mothership GMA. And not only does he not stay long, he’s been at all three networks on some level. Doesn’t scream loyalty either.1 point

WPXI, the station that airs Ring TV? I don’t know about that. They will probably find some more cheap filler.1 point

More overtures to Gayle King, this time to host a weekly interview show for CNN while remaining at CBS Mornings (like Anderson Cooper's arrangement, but in reverse): https://nypost.com/2023/01/31/cnn-wants-gayle-king-to-host-weekly-prime-time-show-report/ King's a phenomenal interviewer, but I remain skeptical that CNN would be able to successfully differentiate this show from Chris Wallace's weekly interview show.1 point

I don't understand why someone's age was part of this comment. Let's see you (or any of us for that matter) do live television five days a week at 80 years old. The way the original post was written seemed a bit snarky to me. I hope that wasn't the intention. By the way, this story about Joy Behar was first published by Radar Online https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/ambitious-joy-behar-eyeing-amy-robach-s-gma-job-as-abc-scrambles-to-find-replacement-after-t-j-holmes-affair-scandal/ar-AA16Xbwo An ABC rep has denied the story. I agree that there are many directions ABC News could go with this show. But I would be surprised if they went opinion heavy. ABC News already has that...it is called The View.1 point

Paid for its operations, Paramount and WBD literally gave the 75% interest in the network itself away.1 point

Ol’ Scotty got it wrong on multiple fronts. Here’s the thing: it’s not about LIV at all. CBS has no reason to keep those stations affiliated with the CW, a network that they jettisoned their joint operating stake in and have already washed their hands of. But LIV gives them a readymade excuse as CBS is not going to want to be seen as being in bed with the Saudis (as @channel2noted to me, yes, Paramount has a joint venture with Qatar managing the remains of Miramax, but it’s all about the PR here, and Uncle Perry made a boo-boo). CBS launching an all-news streaming service on WWJ meant that they were always going to wind up doing the same in Atlanta and Seattle and make them in-house CBS O&Os (and possibly in Tampa had the Standard General takeover of TEGNA actually went through; thankfully that deal is dead and the station is expendable). Plus CBS already dumped MyNet on WBFS and WSBK and have the Now hybrid local-national franchises in primetime on their secondary stations. And the insane thing is, Nexstar is only thinking about how to turn a profit on an operation CBS and Warners lost a shocking amount of money on. They don’t care if it completely nukes the affiliate base, a parcel of land basically paid for the CW in the first place.1 point

Its unfortunate in my opinion that GMA's excessively tabloid brand of "shocking breaking video" journalism remains at the top of the AM ratings, which means the show will stay the way it is for the forseeable future. Michael brings a good energy but he might be better suited as a sports/feature anchor than a main co-anchor. Part of that however would fall into Lara's role.1 point

Recent discovery at WRC: KTRK/13’s Ted Oberg has made the move after 21 years from Eyewitness News up to WRC’s News 4 as an investigative journalist. I was watching this afternoon and recognized the face and realized who it was. I’m not sure when he made his debut (we have News 4 on at the office in the lobby and break room, and this is the first I’ve seen of him), but glad to see him in DC. I met him while in Houston and he seemed to be a decent guy. Jim1 point

Apparently KDKA is going to be yet another CBS owned and operated station that’s going to do away with its channel reference, joining KCBS, KPIX, and WWJ. Heard there’s a CBS News Pittsburgh logo with just the call letters “KDKA” to the left of it. Unsure how I feel about this. Yikes!!!1 point

I am skeptical that a short five to 15 minute episode of "Overtime" from YouTube will help move the needle for CNN's ratings. Regardless of one's opinions of Bill Maher, "Overtime" is just less interesting and compelling than a full episode of his "Real Time" series on HBO. This all comes across to me as CNN pretty much throwing spaghetti at the wall.1 point

With all due respect, this reads like a typical Scotty Jones “tHiS iS tEgNa” old-man-yelling-at-cloud post which got his blog banned from this forum’s Discord server in the first place. PROVE to me with ratings data that the station was “trashed” because it’s Doing Things Different And That Is Bad, otherwise it’s just conjecture. My 69-year old mother watches all the local news (with divided preferences to WKYC and WJW) and she doesn’t care about the ownership of either. Whenever I see people, including some who live in other parts of the freaking country and would never want to see Cleveland, go on their typical “WKYC ruined themselves with that logo…” or “when they call themselves ‘channel 3’, I’ll care about them”, it comes off as ill-informed and silly and makes the TV hobbyist community look out of touch. (“No, it’s the children who are wrong!”) The cold hard truth is that the vast majority of television news viewers are 25–54 female; the demographics here and on Discord do not match up with that in any way. It’s for a variety of reasons but it’s not like we’re doing anything to make either platform all that more palatable to them.1 point

WKYC wasn't broke when Tegna decided to "fix it". They tried the standard Tegna approach for a short while before deciding to reinvent the wheel for the purposes of chasing younger viewers. They've backed off in some ways, but they trashed the station in 2019. There's still some good Tegna stations behind the music and graphics....or in WNEP's case, just the graphics. Then there's ones like WWL that have fallen due to other moves forced upon them (like clearing CBS This Morning/CBS Mornings) and WVUE's ability to do what WWL used to do. And stations like WBNS, that have been owned forever by the founding family who invested heavily in them, only to be assimilated into a company that radically changes the look and feel of the station. This turns stations like WSYX into the "stable" station, and Sinclair's long investment into it is finally paying off. Believe me, I know the disaster that is Advance/Newhouse. You think the Plain Dealer/Cleveland.com is bad? There's AL.com, which was THREE papers covering Huntsville (Times), Birmingham (News) and Mobile (Press-Register). They pioneered the 3-day printing schedule a decade ago. They will stop printing newspapers at the end of February. They did a decade ago what Tegna did to WKYC. It's basically a Birmingham operation with a Mobile bureau with a reporter or two for the entire area. There's a good story here and there, but it's turned into a meme factory that floods the internet with shareable content instead of actually covering the news.1 point

They should just rebrand it back to Good Afternoon America and bring back Josh Elliott & Lara Spencer. From what I understand it had good ratings.1 point

Actually, Billy Bush is the weekday host of "Extra," so it should have very little to no bearing with regard to Jenn and Melvin's schedule at FOX11 during the work week. In addition to weekend co-anchor, Pascucci serves as a reporter on "Good Day L.A. She technically has a greater profile now than she had on KTLA, which there were some long stints when I didn't see her on Channel 5. Given her following, FOX11 would be wise to use her in prime spots in the future.1 point

OWN and YouTube carry multiple episodes/segment reruns both in authorized and unauthorized forms, so this isn't like Judge Judy where stations will easily capitulate because their only competition is Judy Justice or JJ reruns on Pluto TV most of the older audience doesn't know about to begin with. Get ready for another gold rush of 3pm newscasts outside of CBSNS, because 'guest updates' and 'wraparound content' just feels like 'replacement for Rachael' content in deadzone timeslots where only the diehards will care (or the few who don't follow the 'cash me outside' girl online wanting their updates about her sanitized). And I get the feeling the multiple investigative pieces about the show's BTS drama comparable to Ellen turned it into a lawsuit magnet neither McGraw or PG wanted to continue.0 points
