Having recently done extensive research into the histories of a number of the biggest post-New World station builds, they mostly were staggered over a period of months. KSHB had an existing 9pm news which moved to 10 at the time of switch. A 5 was added in October 1994, a 6 in March 1995, but mornings had to wait until the summer of 1996. WDJT added two newscasts at the same time in its March 1996 news debut and then a third shortly thereafter. Weekend news was added the next year. Took them until 2001 to compete in mornings. KNXV started news at 10 on August 1, 1994. They added a 6 in about October, 5 in December, and mornings and middays in January 1995 when the remainder of the ABC programming moved over. WFTS aired its first news on December 12, 1994, but only at 6 and 11. The remaining newscasts showed up in the first four months of 1995. WGNX was not like many of the others. They were not producing a full line of newscasts until the new millennium: just noon, 6, and 11. It was not until Meredith took over that they added morning and 5 p.m. newscasts. WPTY went in all at once in evenings. When they debuted, they had 5, 6, 9 (WLMT) and 10. It took them at LEAST a decade to start a morning newscast! WWJ started with 6 and 11 (not including streaming hours) and has added a newscast in each of the two following weeks. Mornings do seem like they will take a little longer, and I'd expect that because of the time slot. Evening news additions tend to be more incremental, while mornings require a whole other team of on- and off-camera personnel.

Yes. That would be redundant to Chris Wallace's interview series indeed. I can imagine, however, a scenario of Gayle King occasionally hosting interview specials with celebrities and newsmakers on CNN, like what the late Barbara Walters used to do on ABC, for example. On the subject of Wallace, while his series is interesting to watch, at times, I have never understood why CNN does not use him in a full time capacity covering politics. It seems more like his wheelhouse as opposed to a generalized interview show with high-profile guests. CNN is losing a golden opportunity by not using one of the best in the business at covering politics on a full-time basis, in my opinion.

WCBS, WBBM, and KYW should be next. KDKA is going to be in April or May. There is heavy speculation that KDKA and KYW will indeed, rebrand their newscasts as CBS News Pittsburgh/Philadelphia.

They might not be THAT quick—mornings feel like it’ll fall in place by May at the latest—but they’re building this out at a rather steady pace and experimenting with likely talent pairings.

Licht did work at CBS' Late Show before moving to CNN. He is no stranger to comedy, but the Maher move is a bad one. He is very polarizing to where he doesn't care if he offends people. I don't know how long he will last on CNN.

Hoping it's a Matt Quinn design. This could be a much needed improvement for their legacy and Raycom stations.

On top of all of this, cable companies have the nerve to charge into the hundreds for basic cable --while providing poor and slow customer service -- yet act puzzled as to why cord cutting is the new norm. Loved South Park's take on this:

It’s a staggered approach then launching all newscast like station in 1995 with new news departments did. They trying to be new kids on the block but hitting the ground running, try to catch up with the pace of the D.

I'm a big fan of his work! He did an excellent job with KIRO . I think the current issue with the Gray GFX is it feels way to flat. I know flat and clean is/was in..but some depth would help. If I had to take a guess of when WCSC will launch, I'm gonna guess right after the Super Bowl (even though they are a CBS Affiliate )

When you see intros like these, you will know that Baltimore and WJZ are just not the same without the late greats Jerry Turner and Al Sanders.

Wonder if the goal is to add one newscast weekly until all of them debut.

I agree about Wallace (and to some degree..Kasie Hunt). The problem is they have too many people offering up political analysis. As I have previously mentioned; they often have upwards of 8-10 people in-studio battling it out to get a word in. It's utter chaos half the time. Wallace was on during their midterm coverage, but he probably got in just a sentence or two within a 3-hr period. Unless they change how they do things, I can't see him having a bigger role at CNN.

More overtures to Gayle King, this time to host a weekly interview show for CNN while remaining at CBS Mornings (like Anderson Cooper's arrangement, but in reverse): https://nypost.com/2023/01/31/cnn-wants-gayle-king-to-host-weekly-prime-time-show-report/ King's a phenomenal interviewer, but I remain skeptical that CNN would be able to successfully differentiate this show from Chris Wallace's weekly interview show.

Good news, in my opinion. Weekend mornings on CBS 2 have been boring with a solo anchor, so it’s good to see a coanchor being added. Interesting to note that Doug Williams is the son of Brian, who anchored and reported at WCBS in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s prior to moving to NBC News.

Or, could Nexstar purchase WWHO outright? It'd be like a mini-reunion between them and WCMH, who managed WWHO until Viacom ownership

Ultimately, what is the endgame? Cable and broadcast shutting down entirely? Tv networks like ABC converting soely to free ad supported or paid subscription streaming services offering live sports or live news at fixed times, and producing shows that release a new episode at midnight on "Day X" every week? We're already seeing CBS O&Os demphasize channel numbers which is a sign of linear tv's growing irrlevance, even in news consumption. They're basically saying "what does a channel number matter if your watching this online?".

I don't understand BBC America either. I see virtually nothing British there that differentiates it from any other channel. It seems like the same movies that run on AMC are then passed on to IFC, then Sundance and sometimes then to BBC.

I question if the decline of live tv is limited to the United States.

Here's another thing: producers, even those co-owned with the linear networks, have been moving their best/most experimental/biggest budgeted shows to streaming-only, mostly leaving the broadcast and cable channels with their scraps. Even then, the vast majority of those scraps are put on streaming services the next day, disincentivizing viewers from watching it live. It's pretty telling that Yellowstone, which doesn't stream, free or otherwise, until a few months later outside of an authenticated TV app, is one of the only scripted shows to get any significant live ratings in recent years

I'm surprised they got rid of Days for more news, I guess there has been too many break ins with Special Reports (and to compete with GMA3) that NBC just said ok, we will do this. I also wonder if this means we will see more local newscasts on some affiliates as well at 3 PM ET.

Surprised they didn't call it Today Fifth Hour.

More neutral. While FNC and Fox Nation personalities do appear on the network from time to time, they’re more for lifestyle and outdoorsy material, and Fox Weather is more reliant on the newsroom side of FNC and the O&Os/affiliates.

They just interspersed about 3 minutes of live coverage from WSVN into their coverage. Pleasantly surprised to see them taking video from a non-O&O. Thanks for going the extra mile to look up the model of TV. Yeah, that TV is laughable. Haven't seen them use it since yesterday afternoon. Maybe they realized how bad it looked on the air and are now rethinking their purchase.

It’s a truck with a weather station on top. Sorry but these chase vehicles have jumped the shark.

Oh dang, too bad they didn't have that thing out in the field this week...
