And whoever created the city's flag and seal...who got them from William Pitt's standard. that's where the colors came from in the first place.3 points
-
Take that up with Fans of the Stillers, Pirates and Penguins, all the same black and gold...3 points

Omg the black and yellow is SO ugly. It’s funny how protective people are over their special little colors too.3 points

I think the way they implented the colors with the last package was not good. But with this one, it's a little more tolerable. That's not to say it's better. It's just a little easier on the eyes to watch. Now after seeing the gold box this morning, I don't think it looks good at all.2 points

I will agree with this... But like also mentioned, the locals like it THEIR way... It's like WNEP and the 70's Move Closer theme.. Change it and death ensues2 points

Now that KDKA has joined the CBS collective, we are waiting for WJZ, KYW, WBZ, WBBM, and WCBS. Come to the collective guys. Resistance is futile lol.2 points

Last week on Thursday 3/16, TWC quietly launched a new streaming show every weekday evening from 8pm-11pm ET. It's definitely available on all of their streaming apps (Roku, etc.), but it's unclear if it's also available on the streamtwc.com site or not, and I can't test it, because unlike the streaming apps, their website doesn't allow you to log in with your TV provider's credentials. You need a subscription to watch via the website. Anyway, the new streaming show is much more off-the-cuff and conversation-based than their TV product. One of the new personalities on the show is Heather Zons, who is one of their behind-the-camera meteorologists. She was given the opportunity to co-host this show on occasion. Last week, the Thursday/Friday shows featured her and Dr. Postel. This week, the Monday/Tuesday shows featured Carl Parker and Todd Borek. Curious to see who will host the rest of the week. It will be interesting to see what happens on Friday of this week when there's a big severe weather event in the forecast. Will they pre-empt the streaming-only show for standard live extended coverage on the linear channel, or will they direct all viewers to the streaming platform? By the way, the new show is so "experimental" right now that it doesn't even have a name. When they come back from break, they just say, "Welcome back to our new streaming show..."1 point

Truth about Magers. As for Tuck, agreed on the commentaries. He also did them in San Diego while at KGTV. He went after local government/officials etc. too. Some group had t-shirts made that read- Tuck Sucks and that’s my perspective! RIP Mike Tuck.1 point

They could have been taping specials in that space. That's what happens with The Weather Channel when they do that. They'll move programming to The Lab.1 point

I actually really like KDKA's version of the graphics, it combines extremely well the standardized package with the colors it's known for. This would've been a great example for the other affiliates to follow but I'm not sure if they also had signature color schemes.1 point

And here we are when REPEATS of syndication are being kept on the air (Judge Judy) and prime time is reboots of old shows from the 80s and 90s. It makes the whole "season 9 was all a dream" that Dallas pulled off in the 80s with the death and return of Patrick Duffy that much more plausible these days.1 point

I appreciate KDKA keeping their color scheme- SOMETHING to differentiate the standardized graphics locally.1 point

I missed the open, but I like what I see. Even though they're not using the blue qand white. And they're still using "I'm (insert name) KDKA News1 point

SI, itself a dying presence, writes about the slow death of the local sports anchor. https://www.si.com/media/2023/03/21/death-of-the-local-sports-anchor-daily-cover1 point

Yeah, this is much more likely; better to just run out the clock. And most likely, the harassed employee is a lot more important to GMA to retain rather than a guy who they can replace with a surplus of available talent who is drama-free.1 point

In Macon, I wonder how much of their news they cut. WGXA has traditionally been the #2 station far behind WMAZ, I wonder if Morris' WMGT has surged ahead. And now with WPGA being traded to Gray, its practically a station set up to get its last laugh, if they succeed in luring away ABC and/or FOX from WGXA.1 point

Many of their stations are very low rated too. They tend to be 3rd or 4th place in many of their markets.1 point

Cable and Satellite TV by design are obsolete unless they've converted to an IP-like delivery rather than the channels occupying spectrum space. But all of the exclusivity they enjoy (cable) is tied to local franchises and the infrastructure they built to serve their customers. That alone gives them the power to charge franchise fees to their customers. And they use their monopoly to charge to Infinity fees related to their service such as installation, equipment, and now retransmission fees on top of what it all costs. Sooner or later, they're going to have to get out of the "cable" TV business because in essence they're just using their local infrastructure to beam an IP service to their customers (unless they're actually delivering true cable TV which is probably as extinct as landline phones). I wonder what's stopping them from expanding behind their physical boundaries to become virtual MPDs within their DMAs. If that power was granted to them they could serve a lot more customers, so customers who are stuck with Mediacom as their only option could subscribe to Xfinity and vice versa, or pick one of the existing virtual providers. Customers with subscribe to their local service just for the bandwidth, and have the option of picking a television provider. Of course, cable companies with chime in by offering a "discount" to those who choose to subscribe to their own service, and charge a "penalty" or higher rate to a customer who picks the rival service on their home network.1 point

The newscast intro for CBS News Miami captured at 4pm on their streaming channel. This is the first station to use the full CBS intro, and not just shorten it. CBSNM.mp4 For the 5pm Newscast, which airs both streaming and linear, they used a very short intro after the headlines teaser.1 point

That's why we have Public Media. We have PBS NewsHour. Yes, it's an hour. But their stories have so much room and relaxes. Even their weekend edition (30mins) still holds the concept.1 point

There are many directions the network could go with the GMA3 slot, with merely an official host change naturally being the most likely. Let's keep the speculation to a minimum. An uncited rumor about an 80-year-old comedian moving to that hour is not necessary to post. Legitimate publications only, please.1 point

I always thought Buck was going to be at FOX forever, but this is a pretty big hire for sure. Steve Levy can probably focus on hockey now. I've heard Al Michaels may end up going to FOX, although it seems like many people want Gus Johnson as the lead NFL voice. I wonder who will now be the lead MLB voice for FOX?1 point
-
Wow, I'm shocked. I figured Buck would be a Fox lifer. Well, I guess this eliminates any concern about the MNF booth having/not having chemistry. They're inheriting a 20-year pairing of commentators. I guess we'll see how Fox chooses to shift their current talent to make new #1 teams for both NFL and MLB now.1 point

As for whiz next to join the collective: we see you KYW in Philadelphia. We see you watching your sister stations in Pittsburgh and NYC. Come join the CBS collective lol. Resistance is futile!!!0 points

And it's all over; Newsmax will be back on DirecTV tomorrow, with the agreement also specifying that the free network availability on everything from YouTube and every AVOD service up to barbecue grills and Yeti coolers being ended in the coming months.0 points

Another thing I feel needs to change is the KDKA/CBS News Pittsburgh Box. I would've like to have seen a gold for mornings (we'll find out tomorrow what they do with their opens) and the blue box for afternoons and evenings.0 points

Comcast in DC charges $25.40 for broadcast (which I can pick up with a paper clip on my TV…) and $12.40 for sports… Nearly $38 above the quote price + various taxes… J0 points

@ABC 7 Denverbeat me to it, but half of the PBS NewsHour is made up of talking heads, and, no offense to fans of the show, but most people don’t want to watch that crap. It’s a big reason why PBS never moves beyond its very niche audience. Not to mention, it has always been a very slow newscast, and was considered as such even when the big networks were doing slower-paced newscasts. Many European networks seem to find a way to do stories with depth and context without boring their viewers to death; I don’t see a reason why we have to pick between a sleep aid and the desperately frenetic product that the big networks are putting out now.0 points
