Agreed. I don't want/care to hear any more opinions on anchor character in this situation, positive or otherwise. We can discuss this matter further if/when any involved parties speak out, or reasonably-reputable publications release anything new. Good day.8 points

Congressional Republicans are asking the FCC IG to investigate the FCC's handling of the deal. I also discovered there's an entire website making the case for why the deal should happen. What I found funny was the part where they say under their leadership there's been an increase of 40,000 hours of local news...which I'm assuming is from the past 20 years under companies that no longer exist. They certainly haven't added that much news to the four stations they currently own.7 points

If that’s true, then the blame is solely on Camille Edwards and Dave Davis. Not Shirleen. No offense, but blaming an anchor for the missteps of a news director and GM who haven’t been in the building for years is beyond unfair, especially when this talk about Shirleen amounts to nothing more than baseless gossip. Are we supposed to blame Sade Baderinwa for taking Roz Abrams’ old job now? I get it, but in any workplace, you have a responsibility to maintain standards of professionalism. No one claims to know what the working environment was like, nor do I think anyone is trying to “destroy” Ken. However, we do know that WABC fired Ken with cause. I don’t like the fact that he’s gone either, but there are ways to settle your problems without getting your a$$ kicked out the door. I work with plenty of people I don’t care for, but if I called any of them that slur, I’d be gone too.7 points

This is getting ridiculous. I’ve not once seen this discourse around Shirleen in the decade she’s been at WABC yet suddenly everyone’s had a negative opinion of her just days after we learned she was called an offensive term. FWIW, Ken and Shirleen seemed to have a great on and off air relationship. I never got a sense that she was cold to him or vice versa.5 points

Perhaps things seem fishy to you because you do not have the facts, or care to understand them? Lori did not mysteriously leave with a taped goodbye. They blew out the the last 6 minutes of their newscast for a highlight reel and she said goodbye to viewers live on the air. They also posted her final sign off from EWN on social media. All of that for a person who decided to leave for a gig on a competing morning show. And there is no consensus that Shirleen is not well liked, or that she is well liked for that matter. There are a small number of posts by anonymous people claiming they know what type of person she is in real life based on how she appears on television, or claiming to know her from 20 years ago to now. Perhaps there is truth to it or perhaps it’s all made up. There’s nothing verifiable and no data to make any of it a fact let alone a consensus.5 points

The idea that Shirleen pushed and shoved her way up I-95 to dethrone Lori is laughable. Clearly WABC management had some kind of long-term plan to groom a new morning anchor, and if it wasn't Shirleen, it would've been someone else. She's not some homewrecker, and honestly, using the Rosato incident as an excuse to air Allicot grievances just comes across as defending Ken's word(s), even if not the intention.5 points

That may be it. Of course, I'm in no rush to see that man go. He's part of my childhood and he can still go. Let him break the record and then ride off the sunset after. He's only doing one newscast anyways per weekday...3 points

Several network correspondents have left their jobs for weekday or weeknight anchor roles at local stations in big markets. The pay is better and there’s no travel required.3 points

That's what I figured. Heck, Sunbeam probably doesn't have much of a corporate office beyond an office for Andrew Ansin.3 points

Evidence? EDIT: Shouldn’t have even asked. It’s baseless and it’s being pulled out of you know where.3 points

That has to be a typo or something. Magnes is WSVN’s GM. 12 hours a day is certainly overkill, but if any stations are going to follow the KVVU model of filling up more than half the day’s schedule with news, it’s these two.3 points

Makes me wonder if Nexstar or Mission is trying to fill out their presence in the top markets. They would have to play the "mission" card if there was a full-powered station they wanted to get their hands on. Otherwise, they could stumble onto a Class A station, which Nexstar could acquire outright, and if it was part of a channel sharing arrangement with a full-powered station, all the better. If such a station existed in Atlanta, there's your new CW station right there.3 points

Wow if that PageSix allegation is true then that is really an utter shame. I'm sure he may have had his reasons for saying that and there are always two sides to every conflict he still handled it in a very horrible way and now this will probably cost him his entire career. Kinda sad too for someone at the height of their career to do such a lowball act like that, even if it is something personal they may have with each other, Ken should have never handled it like that. While conflicts amongst colleagues can be inevitable, they should always be approached with a respectful tone and manner. Now we all know that Page Six is known for their tabloid, inflated, and speculative stories so I hope it's not true but nonetheless, that is horrible and such a self-destructive act, even if it was a fleeting moment. If these allegations are true, then he probably won't be hired anywhere else anymore. Now recently, Ken and Shirleen did the Holiday Cookoff in December together, and it seemed like their chemistry was impeccable on the air. And now all of these promos that they just did have to be scrapped now, talent opens, graphics, etc, it must be a whirlwind right now to think of all of the things they gotta do, let alone find a new anchor to fill that seat. If the allegations are true, then WABC did the right thing and we should all stand by their swift action. That kind of disrespect should never be tolerated anywhere regardless of the career you are in. WABC has an integrity that is unmatched anywhere, so they have to uphold that. Anyway, I guess that's yet another lesson for all of us: Regardless of your career, where you are in life, or how high you are, one simple word or insult can tarnish it all. Respect in the workplace, especially during these times is super important, no one should be immune to the repercussions associated with any violation of integrity and respect of colleagues. WABC did right if the allegations are true.3 points

This definitely doesn't seem good for WABC in any way. It is good they took action for Ken, but this is suddenly now giving a lot of attention to Shirleen (again, its NYPost commenters, but it seems like most on the comments are actually defending Ken and blaming Shirleen). I suppose we will see what happens in the coming days and months with arrangements. There's still another longtime morning anchor (and more deserving) that should be in the weekday anchor chair, who's name starts with an M. It would be really cool for Phil Lipof to come back, and reunite with Michelle on weekdays! I feel like that would be quite the strong duo, and viewers have already come to know them. Purely wishcasting, of course.3 points

With CBS dropping the CW on WKBD, looks like Nexstar "might" have found a new home.... Looking at this paperwork, Adell Broadcasting is selling WADL to Mission Broadcasting for $75M. Nexstar will provided services to WADL, including an SSA, an option agreement, and sell of commercial time.2 points

Agreed. IDK about the pay part but Russ Mitchell left CBS News in 2009 to take a lead anchor position in Ohio. Contessa Brewer went from MSNBC to WNBC. I've seen reporters in bigger local markets go down to smaller markets in order to get a anchor position. Example Sheldon Dutes or Jummy O from WNBC going to Orlando and DC respectively. Sometimes taking a step down can make for a more comfortable working/living position, or a larger role in a smaller organization. Exactly. The person who made the claim about Shirleen not being nice to work with, I'm not saying it's false, we just need more context and specifics. Yes, one complaint makes it comfortable for others to speak up, but it also looks fishy if people out of the blue start complaining about someone after one allegation. From personal experience...you can't base your opinion of someone by other people's judgments, BUT you can use it as a warning.2 points

Yeah but the topic is about Shirleen Alicot it think we should be respectful about his allegation it's might be true. It only takes one person to come out before everyone else does. Camille Edwards was the ND a few years ago who got axes for toxic work environment.2 points

The production track is just for some of the opens; Dimensional is still being used when going to commercial breaks. But yeah, I totally agree.2 points

THIS. I find it incredibly alarming that, after all these years, character assassinations of a woman have launched only because a man in a more senior position was fired for using a vulgar term to describe her.2 points

That's what CNN does, compromise it's little integrity for a temporary rather than long-term ratings bump. MH -370 is the prime example. Is that the best CNN could do graphics wise??? SMH. Right now MSNBC has the best sets and Fox News has the best lighting. None of the three cable networks have strong graphics.2 points

Oh, no. The only thing I like is that the ticker appears to be a flipper. Interesting that they chose to highlight their weekend morning anchors here (or at least that's all we see in this image -- perhaps it was part of a larger presentation).2 points

Seems unfair to turn this ugly incident into a referendum on the woman being slurred here. I think we can do better.2 points

This is sickening. Just more of the content owners trying to take control of their own content, so only they can own it and the viewers can only watch it the way the owner wants them to. The viewer is going to prevail in the end. It's how VCRs came into play. And with the right amount of ingenuity and legal standing, The viewers are going to find a way to have control of what they receive on the air.2 points

Well that's disappointing if true. Shirleen to me came acorss warm and bubbly on camera. Unfortunately, the news --much like the rest of the corperate world-- can be a very fake and two faced industry.2 points

If true, sounds like ABC acted quickly and made the right call. Good on them for prioritizing the workplace environment.2 points

Yeah…there are ways to address issues with your coworkers, but that’s a first class ticket to the unemployment line in any profession. It’s a shame, but if true, Ch. 7 made the right call.2 points

Just pure insanity from people whos out of touch with reality. Making stuff hard to watch legally is counterintuitive to preventing piracy. Even the music industry knows that. They learned the hard way1 point

I never got the vibe that there was tension between Ken & Shirleen and I never got the vibe that she was a mean person. The backlash against her is surprising given that a few months ago, members of this thread said she was national anchor material and a good get by WABC. But again, I --like many of us-- don't know her personally, and are not privy to what happens behind the scenes. Moreover, we have all been in a position where a coworker or someone we know pissed us off, and we said a word that we shouldn't have. For that, I'm not going to destroy Ken based on that one moment.1 point

I can definitely see that. There was never chemistry like he had with Lori. Sandra seems like the “work mom” that everyone loves. Everyone seemed to have liked Ken as a person it’s sad that it ended this way. Sadly it’s not likely but I wonder if anyone will pick him up at some point1 point

Wanted to highlight my edit: I can see how some might have misread my post as justifying Ken's comments, but my intention was the opposite -- I was trying to articulate that even if he didn't get along with her, it is never okay to use a word like the one he allegedly said.1 point

They’re definitely a reasonable landing spot, but if Scripps is serious about local sports programming, that could change things. If/when Bally collapses, WMYD would be an accessible station for Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings games. I’m not sure they’d want to affiliate with the CW on a long term basis if that’s the route they want to take.1 point

The last part is key. Other employees obviously heard what he said (either by being in the studio or in the control room), and whatever he said must have been deemed inappropriate enough that saying it within earshot of colleagues was grounds for termination, even if it wasn't heard on air.1 point

NBCU licenses all ten hours of the lineup in the form of reruns, so it's on them for their continued existence...despite indies themselves often programming two hours of Dateline on weeknights at the same time, and True Crime Network and ID carrying reruns, along with the Dateline Peacock channel itself! It borders on either non-sensical or roadblocking Dateline on everything they can.1 point

The thing forgotten is that there's still a regular news division, it's just that the radio newscasts and the 24/7 headlines channel on SiriusXM are carrying that 'news' water, along with the short news briefs that now remind me how MTV used to have their 3-minute newscasts at 50 past the hour. So they still have a news operation, but it's been de emphasized so much (along with Fox Business, which just now seems to be FNC2), that only the most knowledgeable about the operation would be able to cite it at all these days. And even the radio news division is now built basically to tee up whatever is about to be talked about on conservative talk radio.1 point
