He is their media reporter writing for their media newsletter. He thought he was being clever tying the bolder font with a bolder direction. Perhaps you disagree. It's not just "some Trump tape from 2021." It is audio of the former president of the United States, currently under federal indictment, admitting that a document he was so cavalierly showing off to a writer was classified and that he could no longer declassify it. It completely blows up each of his public defenses since last August. Yes, it is news, and MSNBC led with it last night at 9. And don't worry, CNN devoted much coverage to Russia as well. The fact that it's from 2021 does not make it any less newsworthy. Hearing the former president say this stuff, instead of just reading transcripts, is rather incredible, and gives new insight into his tone and the tone of those around him. Any news organization wishes they had obtained this.3 points

The classic LOT8s is back (sort of)…but you’ll have to get up very early to see it.3 points

CNN covered Russia/Putin excessively over the weekend and the first part of the day yesterday. CNN Obtained the Trump tape and broke the news exclusively and ran with it throughout primetime. If MSNBC (don't think FNC would) have obtained the tape they too would be running it exclusively.3 points

It sort of reminds me of when 7 News Australia in late January of 2014 updated their news theme for all their national bulletins away from their classic remix theme of John Williams' 'The Mission' to something different. People did not like it so they reverted back to the mission only after four days.2 points

Watters may be the dumbest and most lightweight host Fox has (and that's saying a lot).2 points

Incorrect; it’s a third of the article. Oliver Darcy managed to pump four whole paragraphs about the font, the graphics, and how the new graphics were somehow emblematic of Chris Licht’s tenure. Forgive me for expecting better from a major American news outlet, but I think it’s rather childish for a reporter to ramble on about this sort of thing in an attempt to air the network’s dirty laundry. Of course, that’s just my opinion; others are available.1 point

I'll be curious to see how many different cities are covered on the Retro 8s. Going to have to remember to DVR it tonight. Also of note, because "Weather Doesn't Happen On Weekends™", both Retro 8s and Twilight Live are only scheduled to air on weekdays; however, because the TWC programming day starts at 5am ET, this means that Retro 8s actually airs Tuesday through Saturday morning at 4am ET while Twilight Live airs Monday through Friday morning at 5am ET. Also, it looks like they have already dumped the Byron Allen game show from their schedule. They must have gotten some backlash for that.1 point
-
Looks to be permanent, as it’s scheduled for next week as well. There’s another automated program on TWC’s schedule, Twilight LIVE (presumably using the same night maps seen on Pattrn and TWC en Espanol) which airs right after it.1 point
-
Is this a one-time thing or is this permanent? It's pretty cool to see the retro graphics again. Wish they'd have Allen Jackson's voice on the LOT8's again.1 point
-
Give it a few weeks, as I think that source said. The changes started yesterday, and they're slowly going back to the old one. I think they're recreating it from scratch, or finding the files to help do it from.1 point

As an aside, HLN has updated its logo. In use on-air, not on their socials. And maybe a new tagline: "We play favorites".1 point

The tape is part of evidence collected by the justice department and nothing new is revealed that we didn't already know (or have a general sense of). So the exclusivity of airing the tape is somewhat moot. Back to the article; it comes across as a really strange (or as other have suggested odd) piece. What is the point of it? I mean once a new leader of CNN is named, he or she will want to put their stamp on things and make changes. I guess they want to celebrate their renewed sense of freedom/purpose while they can because it could all go away at some point.1 point
-
Yeah, that is definitely the oddest part of the article as far as I’m concerned. Fun for those of us who care about such things. Weird for the other 98% who could give a hoot1 point
-
Both Puck and CNN's own media reporters are reporting graphics changes over the next 2-3 weeks with initial changes already underway. That suggests to me that the changes in font may be a temporary fix or part of future changes.1 point
-
Even this temporary set looks better than what WNBC has. Well lit, smooth, not too washed out. EDIT: This is a tired discussion but John Elliott belongs on the weekdays again, especially doing feature segments for the 9am. Give Cindy Hsu the noon as well.1 point
-
Agreed. Bolder definitely looks better than the thin font they had last time.1 point

A few updates for Scripps, mainly that as of Friday, The List and The Upside were cancelled, and have been replaced with a live hour of Scripps News a la NBC News Daily, which connects to the integration mentioned above. For The List, here's their goodbye video. The second thing is that the withered corpse that was the original HD graphics package for The Morning Blend from the Journal days (2008 vintage!) is gone and replaced with a sunnier Scripps-generated package. It's been on for months on KTNV, but just got to WTMJ. And here's the TVNC article regarding the change; it looks like it'll roll out to more stations in the fall, and KIRO is actually carrying it in Seattle.1 point
-
I don’t think I would have noticed the changes if you hadn’t pointed them out. I really want CNN to succeed…1 point
-
Granted the old graphics are better than what's on screen now but they should focus on getting an entirely new look. I'll give it to current CNN though, if something isn't working such as CNN Plus or their new graphics package, they'll get rid of it quickly. Keep the flip ticker though.1 point

7 Sydney has a new news set, first from the new studios at Eveleigh - south of the downtown area of Sydney.1 point

Why do I get the feeling Zazlav watched NBC Nightly News and threw a tantrum that his graphics '(censored) (censored) (censored)' compared to their 'new (censored) package)' and told everyone 'start (censored) over' after who knows how much work was done? I would not be shocked if CNN's graphics department hates him just as much as those at TCM right now (and since CNN+ was scuttled, it trebled). The only time I can really think of a reverse being done was WPVI (we all know THAT story), or probably in the 70s or 80s because a newer machine just didn't work with the news department's ENG conversion yet and had to be back-burnered until it was fixed, or more rarely, a network switch forced an old system to be implemented as they were no longer licensed to use the network's software and devices (a la CBS).1 point

Okay, relax. Did it create bias in their presentation of the weather? I think you’re making a big deal out of nothing.1 point
-
You see this all the time on Fox station morning shows like Good Day. Most of the segments are paid for by the business being promoted and aren't just the reporter just coming into a business looking into something new at random, but coordinated in advance (you don't see a trampoline park open at 7am or a restaurant with their dinner menu at breakfast, usually). This is downright tame, especially for a Saturday morning show. At least they were completely transparent about it being a sponsored segment; most in smaller markets just aren't.1 point
-
The key here is that this wasn't a news segment. I see it as the equivalent of John doing a feature story on Legoland and interviewing people. Did he say or do something that is questionable/improper? I don't think this rises to the level where the journalistic integrity of John or CBS 2 is in question [or should be in question].1 point
-
Yeah.. this isn't a big deal. It's a weather segment presented/sponsored by a well-known, family-friendly company. Not unlike seeing a small logo for a local car dealership during the weather segment for example. Now if the new set is made out of Lego and they rename the newscast 'Lego presents...the CBS 2 News at...', that would be something to be concerned about.1 point

When I saw the new logo, it weirdly reminded me of a design that a Russian broadcaster would use.0 points

They actually wrote an article about making the freakin font bolder. How embarrassing… Granted, they did a phenomenal job covering the Russian coup and Christiane Amanpour did a fantastic interview with Obama, but why do I get the feeling we’re about to get the Greatest Hits of Jeff Zucker?0 points
-
Sounds like many were (or are) resistant to (any) change and simply want to go back to the Zucker years. As I type this, both MSNBC and FNC are discussing Russia/Putin. What's on CNN you ask??? Some Trump tape from 2021. That tells me all I need to know about the post-Licht CNN.0 points

Watters started out on O'Reilly as a correspondent/PA, so it's more of an ouroboros where nothing has really changed at all and FNC decided not to be adventurous and go with anyone outside of even the prime block, but who was in the timeslot already to start out with. This is basically what would've eventually happened as a succession plan if Bill had stayed with the network and been a proper gentleman. It was pretty well expected that you could've bet on it, but still disappointing.0 points
-
Any bets on how long it takes Watters to become radioactive? That's not just Carlson's old timeslot -- it's O'Reilly's, too.0 points
-
It's a minor change, and it's....ok. Still way too much mix and match on font weights, the now no-longer rounded edges on things like location bugs feel misaligned since I think the space is still there for the curve but now it's just an edge, the gaps between the name of the reporter and title like above feel way too big, that all caps on the flipper is a big no... Ok, so maybe OK is a little strong. Slapdash feels better. I wonder if they might be experimenting a bit to see what may or may not work rather than just loading up the old graphics template and calling it a day.0 points

Tucker Carlson has an official replacement in his old timeslot - Jesse Watters. (Laura Ingraham and Greg Gutfeld will move to earlier timeslots [the latter's to the former's] .) https://deadline.com/2023/06/fox-news-tucker-carlson-primetime-jesse-watters-laura-ingraham-1235424586/0 points
