  1. True, but I feel like somebody said the same thing when Phil left, and when Rob left, and yet...

  2. It's certainly been theorized by a few outlets, given the Diamond Sports bankruptcy. I think their best bet for sports rights at the moment would be Pittsburgh. With Warner Bros. Discovery closing shop on their RSNs, the Pirates and Penguins need a new home. While it's been theorized that, since the Penguins are owned by the same guys as the Red Sox, they might move it to NESN, one of the few RSNs still doing reasonably well, but with several other teams going OTA, anything can happen.

  3. Nice to see court judges come back without Byron Allen producing it. I only wished this new production company gave Mathis and Millian their new shows instead of Byron.

  4. Actually I believe CBS was #1 at 11. In the 80s. NBC was in early 90s. WABC gained dominance when they picked up Oprah. 5pm on WABC was the newscast in NY. They started to win at 11 in the late 90s and AM when Lori Stokes joined. Since 2000 it’s been a virtual landslide.

  5. I'm fine with the font, but definitely the new logo needs that white border

  6. That's great to see Craig Allen back at 2, obviously wish it was for better circumstances. And I must give props to John Elliott for transitioning to weekday mornings immediately. It will be nice for viewers to see someone they know and not a random CBS meteorologist sitting in Colorado or Texas, although what they did given the circumstance made sense.

  7. Agree that the 75th anniversary specials have been really nice to see. Some great footage of Grimbsy, Beutel, Johnson, and Williams days. I’m harsh on the EWN style they use but the history of WABC cannot be denied.

  8. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cvx3ZYQvxne/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== It looks like Craig Allen's role is temporary (at least for now), as he mentions "helping out" the CBS 2 CBS News New York team. So far, since Elise Finch's passing, John Elliott has appeared every weekday morning and noon, and it looks like this will continue, at least for the time being, with Craig Allen joining to "help out." My guess is they will take their time making any permanent decisions, especially given the circumstances. It will be nice to see Craig Allen back on 2 for the first time since around 2006, when he last served as the station's weekend evening meteorologist.

  9. Surprisingly, MTV was airing music videos and a marathon of Behind the Music in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. They even had a TRL like audeince show at 5 PM ET. It was teriffic, felt like I was watching Fuse from a few years ago. It was the first time in years that I watched that channel for hours. Sadly, the schedule for tomorrow is a whole lot of Ridiculousness. Niche programming! Wish thise days could return. Maybe then there'd still be a reason to have cable.

  10. I remember criticizing Bill Ritter for making occasional opinionated quips during newscasts. I generally prefer that opinions and commentary be labeled as such and separated from the news, but in hindsight, there are reporters and anchors who have done far worse. Otherwise, Bill’s a good anchor and he’s earned his due. Also, their quasi-tabloid style can be a bit off-putting for me at times, but it *is* reflective of the area the station serves, and if it’s still popular all these years later, I suppose there’s no reason to fix it.

  11. And another distributor is trying to partner with Amazon to bring reruns of Judy Justice to syndication, so they could be competing eventually with the original Judge Judy.

  12. I wonder what the local numbers look like now, and who exactly is in last place. All newscasts look virtually smiliar these so its amazing to picture now that the Eyewitness News style was ground breaking. @nycnewsjunkie Out of curuosity, what criticisms do you have for WABC.

  13. The peacock without the white border blends in too much with the graphics. Specifically the purple and blue feathers. To me it can be hard to see. The peacock stand out more with the white border.

  15. Same as it was for years with Jim Gardner. Ludicrous, but so be it. The no-names short openings at noon and weekend mornings are absurd. Sundays especially, we know the team. There is no longer a second anchor. Just put the darn names in and run a full intro. And if Sarah is going to be the only permanent person at noon, ditto, put her name in. If you’re going to use John Paul permanently, great, put the name in. I get the “weather by committee” stuff, though you could cut three versions for the three regulars.

  16. I respectfully but entirely disagree with this. Rosanna’s commentary and interview segments are borderline egregious in terms of bias. Her job at Fox5 is to report the news. It’s not to be an advocate for the restaurant industry of which she has a very clear conflict of interest as a partner in her her family’s restaurant. Especially because she goes out the way to explain how certain actions by the city government might be harmful to her family’s business. It’s unbecoming of a news anchor to brazenly advocate against things that might impact their personal business endeavors.

  17. Since moving off of the 11pm news 10 years ago, Liz has rarely filled in at 11 and Sade is never on at 6. Not a big deal in the slightest but an observation I’ve noticed as well. It’s especially noticeable when they bring in Sandra, Joe or David for 6pm or 11pm despite Sade being there or vice versa at 11pm when Liz is there. FWIW, Sade seemingly didn’t anchor solo until very recently and she’s just as strong solo as she is with anyone else. Toni would almost seem like a lock. She and Michelle have great chemistry and she’s been the primary fill-in weekend mornings going back years.

  18. Channel surfing on 9/11. Incredible footage. It's interesting that HSN and Food Network suspended programming. TNT carried CNN coverage, VH 1 carried WCBS.

  19. The 75 years review was well done, and included visits with past personnel like Doug Johnson, John Johnson and Roseanne Scamardella, as well as greetings from Lori Stokes, Kaity Tong, Ernie Anastos,, Rosanna Scotto and Diana Williams: https://abc7ny.com/13629943/#

  23. Pretty cool seeing all the anniversary messages from former anchors and reporters. It was interesting to see Lori Stokes do one, Kaity Tong did one from the PIX11 set abd Rosanna did one from the GDNY couch

  31. Sinclair slacking off here in Pittsburgh with WPGH is about to hit them once again. KDKA has handily won the race with their 10pm show on WPCW and Sinclair has no inkling to compete at a local level in one off their larger and older markets.

  33. That's very possible. They already re-air Talk Pittsburgh on their CBS News Pittsburgh stream at 9pm, so it would only make sense to have an OTA encore of the show. And moving the Nightly Sports Call to 9pm and making it a full hour also makes sense.

  35. You're not the only one, the font was more distinctive and stood out a little more. I'm still not a fan of the peacock logo without the white border next to the NBC NEWS text, but peacock in the background still has it. lol
