  1. This is a HUGE improvement for WXMI -- and for a Scripps station in general.

  2. I designed this open. We needed something fresh pretty badly so I whipped this up using some aesthetics from GrayOne. Without giving away the details, I can tell you a 3 phase relaunch is in motion. Phase I begins October 31st as we begin our 75th year, Phase II will begin in early January with some more really big changes. Then phase III happens middle of next year. And yes, part of this rebrand is launching GrayONE. So, stay tuned for some really exciting changes!

  3. The set looks fantastic. Its the drab lighting plan that really lets it down and make the talent look flat. And the cold temperature/colour makes skin tones and wood tones look dead. I think this set would look great if they re-lit it. Its really goes to show a great set can look terrible if its lit badly. Goodness.

  4. Oh yes, he did. I believe he joined WWOR around '97 or '98, under Chris-Craft ownership then.

  6. Amazing and historic footage. What makes this unique from any other coverage that day was live audience reaction to the events as they happened. Thanks for the notice. I wonder where this actually aired?

  8. According to this article in the Acadiana Advocate, KATC's (Lafayette, LA) main evening anchors are leaving the station as Scripps "will [reportedly] end the station’s live shows at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and replace it with prerecorded shows with local reporters filling in content." https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/news/business/katc-anchors-leaving-amid-reported-end-of-evening-broadcast/article_77ce3476-5bbe-11ee-9518-2319ff3556ba.html#tncms-source=aca-featured-top This after the station recently got a studio overhaul and new set.

  9. It is. A guess, thinking it through, they wanted that to launch with the full treatment, for lack of a better word. Put the new stuff in place with the changing of the opens? It’s not the cheapest route, but maybe that’s just how things aligned. Won’t make much of a difference to most viewers, so no big deal either way.

  11. Welcome aboard. Just so you know, much of this was already discussed here. This all relates to Scripps’ new overall strategy for their small market stations. Anchor positions are being eliminated, and except for weather segments, most of those newscasts are pre-recorded, w/ segments from MMJs and Scripps News. KATC is the latest station to implement this strategy.

  13. Longtime WOOD-TV morning meteorologist, Terri DeBoer, is retiring from TV after almost 30 years on WOOD-TV. I personally know Terri and have been on many a tour of the WOOD-TV studios. She is the best morning meteorologist in Grand Rapids by far and I'm sad to see her go.

  14. According to some old archived webpages, WB affiliate KWGN-TV, Ch. 2 in Denver, CO, was carrying Live with Regis & Kelly around 2001-02, however there's a chance that even they would have not carried this episode either as they usually aired the show between 9-10AM MT. The first attack happened at 6:46AM MT & was before KWGN-TV's morning newscast which, at the time, started at 7AM. I think that there is a 50/50 chance that they would have been carrying a live feed from CNN, or NYC sister station WPIX, that morning.

  15. I’m pretty sure the show’s syndicated (source: the show’s website). He may not be working for PIX proper, but it still counts in my book. https://positivelyamericatv.com

  17. Not all situations are comparable. Chris Cuomo crossed a huge ethical line. That doesn’t mean every other person related to a public figure in hot water is going to cross a line. Keep her off covering that story, fine. If there is evidence she crosses a line, do what needs to be done. Don’t assume a problem where one is not indicated and stymie her career for something she did not do.

  18. Network affiliation had nothing to do with KMTV picking up The Equalizer in syndication. Just pure coincidence.

  20. Ehh, some of them have deteriorated to third-fourth place (or never got out of the basement under previous ownership) and have entrenched management that should have been gone a decade ago. For many of those stations, without the police comms officer in charge of their Nixle/Facebook writing up police PR and the craven accident-chasing social media accounts they happily take content from, they'd be even worse off. I'm happy to see what Scripps can do, because the Journal deal was an albatross of badly-entrenched management (if you've seen my views over the years, you know exactly who I'm talking about) that they had to wait out before they could make their mark on those stations. Scripps News is a good product that needs more eyes on it and anything that gets away from the social media/Ring/drivecam 'filler news' model for their stations is welcome to me.

  21. I hope KGTV is close to the front of the line for a new set. If they could at least do something about that black curtain that's to the left of the 3x3 array
