Don't forget though this is counting all 168 hours of programming a week for HBO; they might get great ratings during those two-three nights of primetime, but otherwise it's the 478th replay of "88 Minutes" or "Now You See Me 2". Most of those customers use HBO's VOD service or Max outside those hours. Same with Showtime or Starz; by design those ratings are low because the need to follow a schedule has long been negated and is just there more for DVR scheduling a movie you want to see and FF/rewind without cable VOD restrictions, than actual organic tune-in.

Hallelujah! Thought this day would never come! WSB debuted new graphics at noon, ok well maybe not entirely new graphics, more like an update on their last package, which was an update from another package...... Regardless the main thing is things look a little different on air, this new update is very flat, no gradients actually, honestly so far, color me disappointed. Below are some screenshots of how it looks on air so far. Unsure what the new intro looks like, if there is a new one at all, we shall see at 4pm!

So far, just going by your screenshots, this looks like an improvement. It’s about danged time!

Operationally, how different are these actual cable channels compared to the FAST channels? They have to be operated similarly as automated video jukeboxes playing a "list" of content from the master log. All it takes is someone to ingest the stuff so it plays at the right time, and maybe a producer or two producing the promos and interstitial content. It's not like the TV of old where it actually took manpower to run a channel. And since channel capacity is a thing of the past, what actual cost savings would this realize? Satellite space? A power bill on the server? Or just another bloated excuse to cull back content because it's too "expensive"...

I didn't think HBO had that few. This is why I'm waiting for the inevitable mass-culling of cable channels. There are so many channels that aren't pulling their own weight and are still around only because they're bundled with their more popular siblings. At some point, one of the parent companies -- Disney, Comcast/NBCU, WBD, Paramount, etc. -- needs to say, "Yeah, this isn't working out anymore." and start winding channels down. But which company is going to blink first?

Not to get too off-track, but don't forget Bryant Gumbel's sports background, too.

Not bad! Like the still Falcons transition WSB used today. Hope that transition animates nicely! Like that infographic here too! IMO from what we've seen this looks like Scripps News meets NewsNation.

For being new graphics in 2024? Woof. They're pretty bad. That aside, the font is going after the FOX5 audience, the cold open banner reeks of GrayONE.

John and Tony seem to be just as confused about the arrangement as we are! From the video the station released: John: "What do you think about doing team weather?" Tony: "I'm excited about it!" John: "How do you think this is going to work?" Tony: "That's a good question. We've gotta figure that out, don't we?" John looking into the camera: "We have NO idea!"

Yeah, I'm watching right now and it's still a hodgepodge. This definitely looks to be further piecemealing of any sort of new look. At least it's a step in the right direction. Looks like the weather graphics are still the same as before. I'm also seeing some Fox O&O influences here too...

Noticed this new promo: It seems that he was hired as a second weekday morning meteorologist alongside John (makes sense with them adding all these newscasts). Maybe this would also allow John to do more interview segments or maybe outdoor segments like he used to do on the weekends.. Craig Allen seems to be on weekend mornings still, for now.

Looks like WSB and/or Coxpollo hired the same company that did the ABC O&O package and WINK's new graphics. The similarities are all there.

Gracias for the hat tip- and to your point, all the networks have found their crutch/niche... And I think much of it boils down to- what is exciting outside of those niches to watch? When NFL Games make up 93% of the most-watched TV programs in 2023, the message seems to be clear that the viewers are tired of the same reality shows, singing competitions, and legal/cop dramas. Which network finds the new big program or genre and reinvents "Must See TV"? Or... Have we passed a point of no return?

But I see what @GodfreyGR was getting, at. It seems both shows are always on past the point of caring anymore, much like The Voice on NBC and The Bachelor on ABC. I don't fault CBS for sticking to what works, but their routine of recycled police procedural franchises and comedies becomes repetitive and generic. I was also surprised at HBO's ratings were that low despite the critical acclaim of a lot of their shows.

Mary is a PIX and local news legend, wishing her the best on her retirement. They had a nice tribute to her on the news at 4pm.

WPIX reporter Mary Murphy has announced her retirement from broadcasting after a 40-year career. Murphy began her career at WPIX in 1983, spending four years there. After a seven-year stint at WCBS, she returned to PIX11 in 1993, where she has remained since (spending 14 years of that tenure as weekend co-anchor, before moving back to an assignment reporting role in 2009).

Given Weigel once ran Univision on WCIU, this is a bit of a full circle deal.

Not surprised that they're making changes. While Rosanna and Bianca/Lori got the job done, the pairing wasn't pulling enough to make me tune in like the Greg years. The show has yet to recover. Being that Greg was just going to leave in a few years after returning to GDNY, Dave Price might as well have stayed put. I wonder what made them select Curt? Really interested to see how this goes and I'm glad Fox gave an older anchor a chance. WNYW must be paying him the big bucks! It seems like a lot to fly bi-coastal every week but people do it. Made the mistake of reading the comment section on the New York Post article, yikes at the racism. Sports anchor added to a morning show seems to be a trend in NYC with Strahan and Burleson. Joe Garigiola on Today paved the way.
