Here are a couple of the opens: …and I get what @NYCshorty said, the graphics and open style would fit as a Fox O&O package, as components of it blend better with the network’s current graphics style than the actual O&O package does.4 points

The opens no longer mention the time of the newscast, which feels cheap to me. The lower-thirds and anchors still say "CBS 2 News" and the CBS 2 logo remains everywhere. Are they trying to be gradual or is this really as uncoordinated as it looks?3 points

Was gonna bring up the YT video, but I'll mention it here, if you see the graphics open, anyone who isn't like us into this kinda stuff, you'd think these would be the kinda graphics for a newscast from a FOX O&O especially with the way the FOX logo is shown on screen towards the end of the titles. Also, WXIN kinda being a bit of a copycat with the time/temp/station bug graphics to TEGNA which has a station there in WTHR (NBC).2 points

Time to sunset the 2023-24 syndication thread and talk about the 2024-25 season here (new shows, station scheduling changes, etc.)1 point

Yes, those lower thirds have been used for specials, but they originated on 20/20, with a red line instead of white, and that episode's salacious true crime title.1 point

They've been using those L3s for what they've dubbed "Specials", such as the retrospective on the Trump assassination attempt, and Biden stepping down, over the last two weekends.1 point

TWC rolled out "new" graphics today. Why do I put quotation marks around "new"? Well, that's because they basically said to the graphics designer, "We want the same thing as our current look, but pretend you're a graphics designer working in the mid-to-late 2000s, early HD era." My crappy phone pics likely do not do justice to the glorious, shiny 3D effects...1 point

For example, on WCVB in Boston, Mon-Fri have white headers but Sat-Sun have gold headers. And on WPRI in Providence, Mon-Fri have white headers but Sat-Sun have red headers. Why is this?1 point

Among all the instability and criticisms of Paramount and the CBSEN, I just wanted to give the program props for finally improving it's aesthetic. After years of the outdated brownish looking sets, the current evening news setup is the best among the big three broadcasts. The Weekend news set looks great with a contrast of dark blue and white with the Cronkite style map. Dimmer lighting and warm colors can do wonders. Similarly the Washington bureau set looks just as good, and the O&Os are getting some nice sets fashioned after KCAL. Steps in the right direction aesthetically.1 point

It might be because either WPLG aired it then or recorded it straightaway for airing at 6:30, but there are some ABC affiliates that air WNT on Sundays at 6/5c, while many others air it at 6:30/5:30c.1 point

As someone who recently moved to a Spectrum area, I can attest to their use of streaming apps instead of traditional cable boxes. Not having a traditional cable box was a bit weird at first, but the change actually worked out. What helped a lot is that the Xumo Streambox's remote has number keys. I do miss having a DVR, though -- Xfinity has had a cloud DVR for a few years now, so hopefully they're lending Spectrum a hand in getting that going.1 point

Skydance is run by an idiot who has lots of money thanks to his more successful dad. What more needs to be said. Partnering with Jeff Zucker on anything negates whatever else they've done.1 point

Most likely, Sony's The Good Doctor in weekend syndication may soon leave in September same as The King of Queens, game over.1 point

Back when WZVN-TV was WEVU-TV under the ownership of Ellis Communications (WEVU would change its callsign to WZVN a year later.)1 point

I would argue the brand has been successful for 34 years which is why they decided not to use CBS News Los Angeles on channel 9 where a bulk of the newscasts are aired. Even when the two stations became a duopoly, it was KCAL’s management that ran the combined operation.1 point

Oh, I'm sure they did tell him the reason truly (likely that he refused to help any of the younger talent out of jealousy and anger that his low-effort anchoring was being replaced with actual personality), but he dismissed it out of hand in multiple evals and then when they pull the trigger he just dismissed it and then caught the Larry Conners Express to refuse to take any blame for his own demise. Putting all of this in writing in a legal filing just amplified it.1 point

One of the most confusing network 'launches' I've ever truly seen. They knew the CW wasn't going to let that slogan and name fly, they had the same library and it was still a last-minute decision where Scripps just handed them the Defy name? And right now their affiliate body is the decaying husk of HC2 and whatever full-power crumbs they could get from Gray? Scripps is the clear winner here; they got to throw back on a popular channel over-the-air in Ion Plus (I think it should've never left but Katz got his way for a bit after the Ion close before he got pushed out), gets completely out of this gender-segregated network nonsense that has never worked (TrueReal already died last year) and Free TV Networks gets that A&E reality inventory that has become an absolute viewer repellent, aging like raw milk. About the only positive thing is they're adding Live PD reruns, but who wants to watch old crime coverage from six years ago?1 point

Ft. Myers will likely be a WFTX subchannel, which is already crowded enough as it is since Ion has no Ft Myers station alone. You'd hope though they would just affiliate with another station just to keep it in HD.1 point

Hot off their Stanley Cup victory, the Florida Panthers will now air on WSFL and WHDT, with a Fort Myers affiliate to be named: https://www.nhl.com/panthers/news/florida-panthers-scripps-sports-partner-on-multi-year-agreement-to-air-national-hockey-league-team-s-games1 point

They could go greek. Look Alpha, Beta, ... or use a year. I'm sure NBCU suits will have lots of options.1 point

I wonder when the alphabet runs out what are they gonna name the designs.1 point

And as of the 19th, KNTV has made the graphics yellow for the morning broadcasts.1 point

Well my station wftx got the scripps treatment fired alot of anchors and has a lawsuit on them etc. And hired and fired the subsequent successor news team and in this new style newcast all you see is the "community correspondent" reports don't even see the anchors anymore1 point

Large journalism schools like Syracuse and Missouri (among others) have the means, resources, and industry clout to keep offering courses in on-screen reporting even if the demand is not there. Smaller schools do not. For example, Arkansas State University discontinued its MMJ program last year due to low enrollment. TV news does not interest today's college graduates, and therefore, these schools have an incentive to offer courses in subjects that do interest students. After all, who wants to pay tuition for college courses that prepare you for a job where the median starting salary — according to a RTDNA survey — is $37,500?0 points
