That is so similar to what they currently have it could be that “they’re the same picture” meme from The Office3 points

"Ciritical" may be a bit of a subjective word but otherwise this is a pretty well known fact. Just because it doesn't fit someone's narrative doesn't make it an opinion or a bias. The fact that others reported the story without this fact doesn't prove your point. Context is important in any story, and perhaps leaving that important piece of information out of stories could be considered journalistic malpractice.3 points

It’s likely just a matter of hitting the right preset button (clouds, rain, snow, etc..). Doubtful it’s any more complex than that.3 points

I appreciate your affinity for NBC and USA. While this is a creative take, it doesn't consider business realities. Cable channels have dual incomes: subscriber fees from cable operators and advertising. For a long time, they were the envy of the media world, but their revenue has shrunk with cord-cutting. (One can make a pretty compelling case that the cable channel programmers have made their ratings collapse a self-fulfilling prophecy, but that's a topic for another day.) So, combining CNBC with MSNBC would eliminate a huge chunk of subscriber fees. Financially, they need to remain separate. Viewership-wise, they need to remain separate as their audiences are not similar. USA and CNBC are two of the more widely available channels, and MSNBC has consistently been among the Top 5 cable channels in primetime viewership. That's why they are all part of SpinCo. The revenue from these three will drive the new company. Lastly, there's Peacock. As noted in the separation announcement, the cable channels being spun off account for very little of the content streamed on Peacock. Bravo content does well on Peacock, so it's staying put. NBCU is focusing on broadcast and streaming. They see a profitable future in Peacock and FAST channels like NBC News Now. But I did enjoy reading your creative ideas!3 points

Hello everyone, Invision Community, the software that powers this forum, is preparing a major upgrade that we will likely be moving to in the coming months. While there are a number of changes and improvements that I'm looking forward to, one change may negatively impact some folks around here. Logging in to the forum will require entering the account's email address, instead of the account's username. This will not affect you if you're using Google or Discord as a method to login. How can you prepare for this? It's easy! Check the email address associated with your account by clicking here and making sure it's up to date. This is also an important thing to do in case you ever get locked out of your account and need to change your password. There will be additional notice made before this change happens, and I am considering turning the feature on before the software upgrade as a way to prepare. Please note: for security reasons, under no circumstances will I disclose an account's email address. If you get locked out of your account because your email is not current/you are unsure of what email is tied to your account, you will need to create a new account. Please don't hesitate to reply here with any questions you may have. -Weeters2 points

CBS and Gayle King are getting hammered in the social media comments for this by fans. It might have been somewhat controversial last year, but now with Jeff Bezos cozying up to the current president and his dramatic changes at The Washington Post, this is a very bad look for a news anchor. She will no longer be able to report honestly on a major newsmaker, at least up until the launch, and she will likely feel indebted to him for the rest of her life. The question is whether CBS will be similarly tied.2 points

A stupid idea would be to cut the local stations out of the CW. They should just go the UPN route and sell off any station that does not have a CW affiliation if they want to go that far.2 points

Past the 28:46 mark...WHAT"S THIS? Is that the full-length close we get to hear? Same music as heard on KUSA?2 points

You aren’t the first person I’ve heard say that about WPVI. I don’t doubt WABC is the strongest station in New York for a moment.2 points

Those folks contributing a lot to the economy is also an objective fact. Regardless of status their working means they are contributing and the folks who are working are undoubtedly scared currently. Those are gonna be uncomfortable statements for some people but they are just like the earth being round. That’s why I used it as an example. I’m sure you can find an actual example where he really throws an opinion in there but that simply wasn’t it. Let’s say somebody gets beat up real good and he says “I hope the jerks get what’s coming!”… that might start to blur the lines a bit. I mean if you go to some corner and see folks working doing landscaping there’s at least a chance they are not legally authorized to work but it’s not reasonable to say they aren’t contributing to the economy because [insert flat earth denial reason here]. The first clip you posted didn’t actually include what you were talking about at all by the way. It seemed like a normal intro and then an ABC News sourced report about the fires. I didn’t see where he actually made an off hand remark about whodathunkit in LA. One thing I’m curious about… do you actually work in the news business?2 points

Might as well make a random thread for all things WFLD even though so little of note tends to happen there.1 point

Although broadcast meteorologists and the associated technology are very capable of covering local and national weather events day-to-day, what kind of effect could these cuts have in terms of longer-term forecasting or in upcoming major weather events?1 point

Have they been presenting weather in front of the video wall screen all week like Dani is doing on the 10am show? I can’t remember seeing Lee in front of it. KTRK does that as well and I’m a big fan of that look vs the traditional green screen.1 point

Another day, another Gray sports rights deal. This time, a five-game deal in simulcast with FanDuel Sports Network Southeast to carry the Grizzlies. TL;DR Memphis: WMC 5.1 (NBC) and WMC 5.3 (News/WX) Nashville: WSMV 4.1 (NBC) and WSMV 4.2 (Tennessee Valley Sports and Entertainment) Knoxville: WBXX 20.1 (CW) and WVVLT 8.2 (MNT) https://graytv.gcs-web.com/static-files/c3a43f92-d0ca-48a6-8bdb-1384b097caef1 point

Remember KENV Elko's Lori Gilbert? The last person working at the NBC affiliate before they lost that affiliation? I was curious as to where she's at now... She is still serving Elko but is now at 91.5 KNCC (a KUNR repeater) and is still a one-woman band. https://ruralpublic.org/blog-and-news/blog/one-woman-station/1 point

YEP! Both news sets from both WXIA and KARE (KUSA's sister stations) DID give off that vibe of the news set from KOA-TV/KCNC (KUSA's competitor) from their NewsCenter 4 days. All of them NBC affiliates, except one affiliate in Denver was owned by GE and then the NBC network itself (became a CBS O&O in 1995). KCNC's color scheme was different from the patriotic red/white/blue American flag color scheme that KUSA, KARE, WXIA and other Gannett stations have used1 point

Well there's no other thread about this massive series of items. The sale of KTVH/KBGF to Cordillera is going to have some major consequences for that station. Cordillera owns the MTN state CBS network, which has a full-power transmitter in Great Falls (KRTV) and a low-power transmitter in Helena (KXLH) with little news output. Because KMTF is now gravy (it was bought by Gray on a failing station waiver), it's going to Montana State which is probably very excited about the opportunity to begin full-power PBS service in the capital of Montana. News consolidation is extremely likely; expect KXLH to move to KTVH's facilities and Cordillera to upgrade them considerably. The Wausau and Laredo moves are interesting. For one, WFXS has largely operated under the orbit of WAOW, with news share and technical agreements. That's going to end very quickly and WSAW is likely to take over the newscasts. In the case of KVTV, this was a Brian Brady station that has always been kind of neglected under various owners. I cannot find ANY technical information on this new KYLX, not even a new LPTV licensed to "Gray Television Licensee", though they have reserved that callsign. (Actually, giving things a closer look, Brady did something absolutely wild. He owned KNEX-LP, which had a CP to move to digital channel 14. He instead opted to apply for digital channel 13 - the same as KVTV - at 3 kW ERP - the same as KVTV - from the same facilities as KVTV. He also applied to run the LPTV on those facilities on STA. He essentially replaced KVTV with an LPTV, KNEX/KYLX. And yes, a sale of that was approved to Gray. So KVTV disappeared today and KYLX, on the SAME TRANSMITTER AND FACILITIES, replaced it. Absolutely genius.) But it makes me wonder about something Gray did in Rapid City, South Dakota. They have an LPTV there ready to duplicate KEVN's coverage in Rapid City. It would make a lot of sense if they were about to buy someone — most likely locally-owned KNBN — and move its programming to the LPTV.1 point

I do gotta say, I really like the Jeff and Dawn team at 9pm. I also have seen an improvement in the 9pm news in my opinion. For example, they started right away with team coverage with Craig and Alexa in the field and Bill in the Weather Center. If you think about it, sadly, 2 reporters for WFLD is a lot in one newscast since they lack personnel. Idk just my opinion. Put it this way, I don't want to fall asleep anymore now that Sirott's dry humor is gone.1 point

I don't live on long Island so I can't watch but I remember a few weeks ago someone from the station posting that they could finally wear blue because they were changing to green screen. So maybe just the weather set is being updated.1 point

Just read this from News12 LI meteorologist Samantha Augeri's facebook account: News 12 LI isn't getting a whole new set, is it? Their current one isn't that outdated. But the way she worded it almost made me think that they were. And if they really were, they would probably have to move into the newsroom or onto a temporary set anyway, so I doubt it's a new set, probably just new equipment.1 point

To follow up on my last post here are some dark studio shots. The chair on the far right is the most dark camera shot on the AM newscast. WCBS needs to fix this. They are now darker then WABC's studio.1 point

Twi things I noticed about EWN Weekends: 1) On Saturday evening, at approximately 5:35pm, they aired an "Eyewitness News Brief". It last about a minute and half, summarized three top stories and had a check on the weather. How long have they been doing this on weekends? 2) I noticed the Sunday morning EWN Brief during GMA Weekend was done from inside the studio and not the newsroom flashcam. Why do the weekday EWN Briefs still originate from the newsroom if the studio is available? Is the newsroom flashcam operated from a different control area where, I presume, the studio and "Live!" are being controlled from?1 point
