  1. This is off-topic, but wow. Such a beautiful home, all destroyed. Ugh. I feel for the folks who lived there.

  2. Well, this just happened… The tornado touched down near Lake Mary around 9:40 a.m. EDT (with a debris signature visible on radar), and approached the vicinity of WOFL/WRBW’s studios, where debris was reported falling from the sky onto the studio grounds.

  4. I warned y'all a month ago. I knew we were being duped. Don't be surprised if more stations do this because Allen was planning to do this all along.

  5. This is a general thread for the Fox O&Os since there isn't one yet... I figured I'd create a thread for Fox due to the continuing developments at Fox News and the O&O station group since the Ailes sexual harassment scandal began in July of 2016. Former O&Os (WJW, WHBQ, WFXT, WDAF, etc.) can also be covered under this thread. You're encouraged to create a new thread for major events such as Fox purchasing or selling a station, a new graphics package being adopted, etc.

  6. This is the thread to discuss Delaware Valley's Leading News Program. ...but in reality I just started it because I needed somewhere to put this: Yes, that is Cecily Tynan preparing to throw a long bomb at Jeff Skversky, who is at the big board for High School Huddle. He caught it - cue high fiving. Why on earth would I have recorded the rebroadcast?

  7. Looks like MLB is producing the Seattle Mariner's telecasts on Root Sports. Standard MLB Local graphics package, but ROOT Sports substituted for the MLB logo.

  8. They definitely didn’t. After populating the advance schedule with specific infomercials—by name, not just paid programming — for multiple weeks, it reverted back. Good for them.

  10. WDJT has their replacement for Sam Kuffel; JD Rudd, who recently left Spectrum News WIsconsin, popped up on this evening's newscasts and the temperature was appropriate enough to note.

  11. It's not Hearst, they're good until 01/2028. It's also not any of the other big names like Gray/Nexstar/Scripps/Sinclair/Hubbard/Graham/Cox/Tegna/Allen, etc. They all either had recent renewals or aren't expiring until the end of 2025 You can usually find the expiration dates in their public files on the FCC site, either as part of their biennial ownership reports or a seperate filing under contracts and agreements. It's probably someone who expired at the end of 2024 and is running out of short term extensions.

  13. Chapter 7 liquidation is always a last resort. Nothing is impossible. But that's an disastrous outcome for everyone - even creditors. If there is a bankruptcy filing, Chapter 11 reorganization is the path they will try to negotiate with creditors - even if the end goal of the reorganization is reduced debt and a better balance sheet to make the company more attractive to prospective buyers. Think the final decade of Tribune's existence. Everything they did from bankruptcy until the deal closed with Nexstar (minus the whole Sinclair debacle) was done with the intention of getting the most money out of a merger. The print spinoff unloaded a financial problem, the LocalTV LLC Merger gave them scale. Scripps will just need to move at an accelerated pace because they don't have money to grow, they already spun off print, and the clock is ticking with the imminent ownership deregulation. There are considerable financial benefits to a seller with a sale structured as a merger with one company (and the buyer spins off any properties that regulators won't allow them to keep) rather than parts of the company being sold to multiple businesses.

  14. It probably will. It's mostly just all the Morning Blend people, and they'd still be in the building at that time anyways. Same goes for staffing. They had a 3PM news before because the PM production crew is already in the building by that point (and god forbid they have any time during their workday where they're not producing live television). It's a sunk cost on the production side, in the studio at least. The added costs to produce What's Brewing Wisconsin will probably be another producer and the additional host, and maybe paying for part of a photographer's day. The real question is whether or not "Morning Blend but in the afternoon" is a viable product. Morning Blend prints money, but I'm not sure if you can have lightning strike twice four hours later.

  19. The Reds just pulled a similar "about-face", as they're returning back to what's now FanDuel Sports Network Ohio at least for 2025. Included in this arrangement, FanDuel will offer DTC streaming for Reds telecasts, reflecting similar arrangements that they have with other MLB teams on their team roster. https://www.wcpo.com/sports/baseball/reds/cincinnati-reds-partners-with-fanduel-sports-network-for-2025-broadcast-rights

  20. I’m not sure why some expected a total refresh. Basically Bally’s ended their naming deal and FanDuel stepped in. When (if) Diamond/Sinclair emerges from bankruptcy, FanDuel may invest but won’t be the controlling owner based on what has been disclosed.

  23. ESPN is reporting today that the Guardians, Brewers, and Twins will have their telecasts produced by Major League Baseball's local division starting next season. They'll join the Padres, Diamondbacks, and Rockies as teams that will have their local telecasts handled by MLB. More to @tyrannical bastard's point, this likely spells the end of Bally Sports Great Lakes.

  24. Looks like the countdown is on to the rebrand as "FanDuel Sports Network [region]." SBJ (paywall) mentions a court filing that mentioned FanDuel as the new naming rights partner: https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2024/10/07/diamond-sports-group-fanduel?publicationSource=sbd&issue=cfeec20f2fe5410da0e31a3dc0440253 More notably, Fubo has already switched logos for the Bally RSNs, but they still call them "Bally Sports" when clicked on. Also looks like, with the Pelicans moving to Gray, there's no logo for FDSN New Orleans, quite possible it's shutting down. Additionally, they're already squatting on several Twitter handles. Not sure a timeframe, but quite interesting.

  25. The Athletic is clarifying that initial report, saying that Bally is dropping only the Tigers and Rays while keeping the Braves. Bally's deals with Cleveland, Milwaukee, Texas and Minnesota expired at season's end. As has been mentioned already, the Rangers are going it alone with Tegna as their partner in Dallas-Fort Worth. The Guardians, Brewers and Twins can negotiate new deals with Bally if they so choose, but they won't be as lucrative. Bally's other MLB contracts are what they call "joint-ventures" so they are assumed safe–for now. (The linked article may be paywalled for some.)

  26. I heard a story that when President Nixon was about to resign all 3 of the network news anchors were on vacation HK smith of abc news was at his upstate ny house and made the drive down to DC in 5 hours Walter Cronkite was sailing off of Nantucket and they had the coast guard get him and John Chancellor had a plane come get him (please correct me if im wrong) Do the networks have a plan to get their anchor from vacation etc if they absolutely need them for the biggest news events

  27. I don't think there is a thread for WFMZ yet, but I want to discuss them, so here it is. A few weeks ago Rob Vaughan posted on Facebook that people at the station told him more people in the Lehigh Valley watch 69 News at 5 pm than "any other channel on TV" - I commented asking for the actual rating/share, and he said he would ask those in the know if they wanted that info public. Apparently they didn't since he never responded. They appear to have a new reporter/anchor - someone I never saw before anchored the 6 pm news tonight. It's not uncommon - their talent comes and goes pretty frequently - but they don't usually make it to the anchor chair right away. She had sort of a "big market" vibe about her - at least more so than being on WFMZ. She's obviously not local since she butchered common place names like Schylkill and Nesquehoning. Also - more interestingly - 69 News at 5 tomorrow night is broadcasting from their new street side studio at 7th & Hamilton Streets in downtown Allentown. Allentown is on the verge of reinventing itself, and a $200 million minor league hockey arena is nearing completion with the first event being held this Friday. Downtown Allentown has been on a downhill climb since Hess's closed and without this arena it would have continued getting worse. There's been all kinds of other buildings constructed and they are hoping to attract lots of offices. Several large companies have already moved their headquarters to the new "City Center" buildings as they're being called. What I'm not sure of is if WFMZ hopes to moves it studio permanently to the new arena (the studio is actually contained within the building), or just use it for reports on hockey games and occasional newscasts. It seems odd to me to build an entire street side studio - complete with full pane windows - just to anchor the occasional newscast. But, I'm not sure what other purpose it may have, because their current studios are a good 10 miles and 20-25 minute drive from the downtown site.

  28. WPLG News Clip 2024. Definately some essence of WSVN's tabloid feel. I wonder if the studio cameras are either low level HD, or the set is just badly lit. The anchors can come off sharp and grainy sometimes.

  30. Anybody have information on the theme for "Prime Time" on WPVI? I see open and closing versions, possibly with an update, floating around in the few clips online. Was it an in-house music composition? Edit: I've found the composer, Louis Anthony DeLise. He appears to be local, as was the publisher. Working to find out more.

  34. Sadly, this doesn't seem like an updated version. Although the audio fidelity may not be good and therefore it betrays me ears, this is in fact the 2002 commission that went unused. Not exactly a modern take.

  35. I’ve been dreaming of the day they brought back the Jennings-era theme... and am so glad it has finally happened! Love that the voiceover intros the newscast the same way it used to introduce Peter.. “from ABC News world headquarters in New York...” another throwback to the Jennings era!

  38. The 2012 theme remains for the headline cue, but gels very well with the GORGEOUS open. All other graphics are the largely the same and 4:3 safe, but they've moved the old desk out of the closest and they're finally on the new set. The environment looks so similar to the old look, the untrained eye wouldn't know it's TV3.

  39. The teaser graphics are no longer 4:3 safe, there's a new open, and they brought back the old Peter Jennings theme!

  40. Does David Muir even anchor WNT anymore? I watch KABC’s 6pm show and switch over to NBC Nightly News at 6:30. I always chuckle because the anchors “toss” it to David Muir who seems to rarely be there and WNT at 6:30 is really a rebroadcast, so I’m always surprised they don’t seem to know whose in the anchor chair or not. NNN ends sooner than WNT and I flip it back to KABC to watch Jeopardy. I caught the closing of WNT and Llamas said he’d be back again tomorrow. And I agree with above, WNT’s story preview at the top is waaaaay too long.

  48. The idea behind having a deputy anchor in New York while the main anchor is overseas is done because satellites are not always reliable. So, traditionally, the main anchor pretapes his/her introductions and stories, it gets fed back to New York and New York airs it with live updates on the other news of the day anchored by the deputy. This also allows those other news headlines to be as up to date as possible. If the show is completely live from outside New York, a deputy anchor is always on set in case of some technical error and can pick up the show and finish it from New York.

  49. It isn't a new thing. I remember it happening when Peter Jennings was anchoring somewhere other than NYC or an ABC News bureau (and IIRC NBC used to do it even for big events like the Olympics). I feel like it made more sense back in the 80s and 90s because it probably was easier to gather the rest of the news out of New York back before the internet and cell phone data plans than it was to try to do that wherever they happened to be.
