Yeah, no idea where you got that September 1st idea from. @That 00s Show As a new member, please be more discerning and responsible in future posts.3 points

I cannot think of anything more value destructive. Just because Ed Ansin got away with it twice doesn't mean it can work when the product is diluted this much. In a billingual market, no less. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see Warren Buffett take the L after a year or two and unload WPLG to Mission so Nexstar can have a CW O&O for Miami. He's had some bad business moves re: media (buying the Media General newspaper chain, helping Scripps buy Ion) but this might be the biggest oopsie.2 points

Couple problems: 1) the article is from last year and 2) it says nothing about the CW moving from KFMB-DT2 to KUSI in the timeframe mentioned in the thread title. In another thread (which I believe linked to said article), another user stated that KFMB’s CW contract didn’t lapse until 2026, so unless Nexstar confirms the affiliation will move to KUSI on September 1 (terminating the KFMB contract early), this thread was created prematurely.2 points

WRAL's streaming strategy is a big firehose with multiple services rather than just limiting it to certain websites and services (and times... *cough* Perry Sook ), including an open stream of their WRAL+/WNGT-CD service on YouTube, so this isn't a surprise; just another means to get their news out there. I wouldn't worry about any takeovers; this is just a broadcasting company that remembers the 'broad' part of the name and Fox letting them do so through that affiliation agreement, the same way they carry WAGA's audio on an HD2 radio subchannel through Audacy, and I'd expect this will be the first of many FoxLocal streaming deals (or perhaps a part of the upcoming cord-cutting app in planning).2 points

I hope even if they call, he has the good sense to say no. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose by coming back. I hope Leon finds peace, sobriety, and health in his next chapter. As someone who spent 15 years in a newsroom, for every person who has a public/visible fall from grace due to alcohol or other substance abuse, there are just as many, if not more, who battle it silently or are in denial about it and manage to fly under the radar. There's no way to quantify the why - but the combination of odd hours, lack of balance, constant bad news content, and high-pressure work environment all likely play a role. Candidly, it's a big reason why I got out when I did. I saw the life outcomes of unmarried or divorced men over 40 who stay in TV news. The odds are not in your favor.1 point

Leon was never really a ratings draw, but WUSA9 also never really made many smart decisions either, so who knows? Can he one man band???1 point

Well, Sinciair not only wants the FCC to abolish the current ownership rules, but end ATSC 1.0 as we know it.... https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/sinclair-urges-fcc-to-abolish-station-ownership-rules-sunset-atsc-1-0 I sort-of agree that 3.0 is a superior standard. But if only Sinclair is behind it and other broadcasters are using it as a way to restrict viewership (through encoding and datacasting), then it sort of defeats the purpose of broadcasting as we know it. Streaming has proven to be a method where they hold the control. It's there one day and could be gone the next. If broadcasters have the same control, then consumers lose out as well.1 point

Today GMA3 started out without the goofy 8:30am theme or 'This is the third hour of GMA' from the announcer, but plenty of mentions of 'what you need to know' in a couple of feature stories, so it looks like they're experimenting week-to-week.1 point

Pedro did the first 15-20 minutes of the 10am from the newsroom (?), mentioning that he would join Shirleen and Brittany downstairs. At noon, the opening was skipped, there was no music, and newscast began with David teasing the top stories. He clearly was sick (as could be heard via his raspy voice) and was anchoring solo. Sounds like technical difficulties today and staff shortages.1 point

April 14, 2025-- Let's do it again. One last time. Live with Kelly & Mark finally debuted its new set at 7H². And it's beautiful. Similar to the last set but very vibrant and refreshing.1 point

Ha! I wish. Yeah I think this is a business decision. Nothing else. But hey maybe someday FOX would buy WRAZ, there talking about baseball in Raleigh don’t wanna get to off topic, but they’ve been talking about it.1 point

I recommend that this thread be re-titled, moved to the Speculatron, or merged into the Nexstar thread. (Also, I noticed that the original poster is brand-new, so maybe one of the moderators should send them a private message explaining what happened to their post and why.)1 point

Interesting fill-ins this weekend. After anchoring the 11pm Friday night, Mike filled in for Pedro on Saturday morning next to Toni Yates (in for Michelle), with Jeff doing weather for Dani. Jeff also did the weather Saturday night. On Sunday, Pedro was in for himself, next to Toni (in for Michelle), with Brittaney handling weather for Dani.1 point

Toya Washington, did a podcast interview awhile back and she talked about being burned out and she got off the 10pm back in 2011 for part-time for her family. I remember she wanted to do just the 5pm for family reason, and left the job to be a mom with her kids and her husband schedule too. She's teaching now, but there the article and podcast to check out. https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/toyawashington https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/toya-washington-leaving-tv-news/id1690213362?i=10006151410011 point

Couple of departures from KTUL/KOKH. Yesterday was sports Director TJ Eckert’s last day after 7 years at KTUL. Tonight is Meteorologist Colton Williams last day at both stations. Both are planning to stay in green county but haven’t announce their plans. Well I should say TJ said he will announce later on down the road Colton isn’t for sure as to his next plans but is planning on doing social media weather updates still.1 point

Actually, Drew joined the lineup last year, moving over from Dabl when that network switched from lifestyle shows to Black sitcoms. Ironically, Dabl itself added Hot Bench to its overnight lineup last fall, putting it in the 2:00 a.m. hour that should technically belong to an overnight run of Are We There Yet?, which was added at the same time. (AWTY does air at that hour on weekends, however.)1 point

Speaking of CBS and syndication, the 50/50 Weigel/CBS network StartTV has quietly begun to air that day's Drew, ET, and Inside Edition in late night, just as ABC/DIsney and NBC air their big syndicated shows in late night on their own stations (with Bravo also airing Kelly Clarkson the same way). Probably a big way to address how ET is now considered very pre-emptable by many stations without much consequence if they don't have the late night re-air.1 point

My night and my day has officially been made. I haven't seen this channel (either on TV or online like this)... in approx. 18 YEARS or so. I've been looking forever for a video of this channel and I finally found it... WPRI's former Eyewitness News Pinpoint Weather Station.1 point

Yeah….no. The shows are expensive. That is reason to give group management pause and warrants careful evaluation as contracts renew. But the bottom is what matters and if the business benefits from having the shows on those stations, they will stay. Big boys and girls understand business is business. Sometimes you get into a tiff in one area, but no one with an ounce of common sense would base a business decision involving millions of dollars just on spite.1 point

Being a savvy mom & pop operation, this actually makes sense. No corporate directives to use "their" platform. Just use their absolute dominance to send their signal every which way because everyone is watching to begin with! And FOX gets a willing affiliate who wants to make their news product part of their national offerings, on their own accord, not a forced clause in their affiliation agreement.1 point

Sun Broadcasting/WXCW Naples-Fort Myers (and sidecar to Fort Myers Broadcasting/WINK) President Jim Schwartzel is running for the U.S. House. I can't quite figure out how he got this glowing profile on WINK. It truly is a mystery.1 point

Perhaps FOX is plotting a hostile takeover of WRAZ? Raleigh/Durham could use another voice in the market, and WRAZ could stand on their own. Even WRAL operated them independently for a while in Durham before finally consolidating with the mothership in Raleigh. More likely, FOXLocal is beginning to sub-license affiliate stations in other markets. It's slim pickings because the other large groups are FOX affiliates in most cases, unless they are tied with their affiliate agreement to stream local newscasts on the app going forward.1 point

I just downloaded the app to my iPad to check it, but WRAZ isn't listed as an option. Maybe it was added by mistake?1 point

Oof. I guess the lesson here is to start the process with "softer" offensive words. It's probably easier to explain how you accidentally posted the word "poop" rather than what they posted.1 point

Don't be surprised if out of retaliation for this, CBS doesn't renew the contracts for the 2 game shows in the O&O markets that air it in Boston, Dallas, & Minneapolis/St. Paul.1 point

Good Lord, this whole discussion is not worth the webpage it's printed on. There's no grand conspiracy here. You have a brand new building, you show it off. Corporate paid for it, so why not? Heck, The View did a drone fly-through of the building on day 1, showing everything, including this atrium space. Beyond that, the end of March "eviction" for Live is the likely case, but Lord knows delays happen. I'm sure their plan was to be in the studio for the start of this month, but they couldn't, so they came up with a creative, reasonably attractive stopgap measure. Credit to the staff for making this work. I doubt there's anything more to it than that.1 point

If this becomes a long term pairing it would be Lara's second time in a similar role. Reminds me of when she hosted Good Afternoon America. This is cool for Sam who (speculation) seems to have wanted a network position again after leaving GMA years ago. If the buzz is true about DeMarco and Eva getting the boot, that especially sucks for DeMarco who was overjoyed to the point of tears after getting the job. He's had some pretty prominent anchor positions over his career so I'm sure he'll get another opportunity at ABC.1 point

As long as they can slap a sponsor's logo on it... pretty sure they don't care what it's called. Any outreach event Nexstar puts out has a "insert logo here" mentality to sell to the first willing client. Whether it's band-wagoning a major sporting event with a special program or running their "Remarkable Women" promotion, everything has a dollar sign attached to it.1 point

I didn't think about that, but it's a good point too. I'd add that the non-news programming (especially syndication and cable) has become mind-numbingly repetitive in its own way. American TV has always been lazy in terms of its presentation, but it seems like around the mid-2010s, streaming became an excuse for the linear TV industry to give up and become just as lazy with everything else.1 point

I was thinking the same thing. Sky has very very very clean graphics. I will be interesting see. They are bring a decent studio team over from the UK and going to have a former correspondent return to be their "Steve Kornaki" analyst. It will be interesting to see an outside perspective. It seems that Sky and NBC are closer than they were sisters with Fox "News".1 point

Very interested in seeing how they'll use the set with their graphics!1 point

A sad day to report on SoCal broadcasting. Ed Arnold has died. I know lists aren't allowed but please allow this exception because he truly did it all in his 60 YEARS of service to broadcasting in SoCal... Joined KTLA in the late 1960s as announcer/sportscaster. Joined KABC in 1975, but left in 1986. Returned to KTLA in 1986 and stayed until 1999. The voice of KCET. Sports personality for 1110 KRLA (now KWVE), 97.1 KHTZ (now KNX-FM), and 710 KMPC (now KSPN). Co-host and managing editor of Real Orange for KOCE. Announcer for the internationally televised Hour of Power religious program. He died last Thursday after suffering from heart disease for many years. He was 86. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/ed-arnold-dead-broadcaster-los-angeles-tv-stations-ktla-kabc-1236189868/0 points

It's rare to see any kind of ratings news but I found one... WGRZ Buffalo who, according to ComScore in four different demos, is #1 in the morning, 5, 6 7, and 11pm. My guess is that Noon and 4pm went to WIVB but it's only a guess. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jeremysettle_teamtegna-ugcPost-7316174833556353028-wVp6?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android&rcm=ACoAABqGw-0BrOQ_9csrv95OAtvM37gqLkE_dSc0 points

Name a Paramount Global channel whose name doesn't start with Nick or CBS Sports; MTV, CMT and VH1 could easily merge their schedules into one at this point and their digital cable era spin-offs are just as useless.0 points
