  2. The current music pkg isnt even music. Its weak boring.. nothing. A few lame sounds to put you to sleep. This is at least a music pkg with some style. God.. why have the Scripps stations become so boring and vanilla. They are unwatchable. No energy. WXYZ is the worst offender. Is that on purpose?

  6. It’s probably to counter the stupid, over the top, full of yourself presentation of WDIV. And besides. It’s the best thing they’ve put out product wise since all the old folks retired. That and they can put out a cleaner product than WDIV, which it is, and try to capitalize on that sinking ship over there. Do I wish they had some of the old O&O style energy? Sure. It’s it the most mistake free in the market? Probably. This new music package with the goofy string sound just sort of repeats variations of that and it sounds kinda weird after a while. WFTS played about two minutes if it today and it really never even gets off the ground. It might make a great BREAKING NEWS bed but it’s kinda lousy theme music.

  8. I like the look (7 day is gross). Music could use more "umphf" to it I think. But it's definitely an upgrade. Wasn't the current package (Scripps v3) purposely designed to only last a few years? I thought I remember that being a point of discussion here. It was new for the sake of new, but done quickly and cheap, and not meant to last 10 years.

  13. The openings looks good. More generic white box L3s graphics (yawn) but definitely an upgrade from their current flat blue rectangle L3. It looks like a better version of WPIX's mid 2010s package. I think the lower third would look better if the "Right now at 5:00 subject line" were placed above the white box, not within it. I like the depth on some of these graphics such as here. The curves remind me of the ABC O&O graphics. Can't wait to see these on WPTV.

  18. Yeah, I've been working on uploading the new opens over the last few days. (Playlist that I'll keep updating...) Meanwhile, it looks like they're trying to go toe-to-toe with WGN's morning after-show. Streaming at 10 (as I type this) is Chicago Now with Anthony & Kaitlin.

  19. Looks on par with the updates across the O&O's as they still work on phasing out the searchlights in the logos (KMSP recently redid their opens as well). Overall the stills with the FOX outline behind the logo give me "2010's WBBM 15 years later" vibes.

  21. In the past few months I've been doing some little bit of digging into figuring it out who or what company was responsible for creating the theme song that was used for KLBK in 1996 The same theme that was used for KNOE-TV in Monroe La, WHP-TV in Central Pennsylvania, and KNAZ in Northern Arizona. At first I thought it was done in the sound studios of Stephen Arnold Music during the middle of the '90s. However I've gotten in touch in the past few months with Whitney Arnold, the active president of Stephen Arnold Music. While they were not the creators of that theme it did provide me a clue. KNOE TV (the station I grew up in) licensed "Signature" in 2003 making it the very first time they ever to use the Stephen Arnold news music library. Predating that, in their own records they stated that KNOE and WHP use the same theme song that was around the mid '90s that was actually licensed by Non-Stop music, which later on was absorbed into 615 music which was later than absorbed into Warner Chappell. I did indeed try to get in contact with the people of WC but so far I have yet to hear back from them. I've messaged them three times but so far no luck. She says that it may be from a legacy news package under the Non-Stop music umbrella. If anyone has any further leads or even a small clue on what the name of that theme song is for KNOE TV and WHP TV under the Non-Stop music license feel free to reply.

  31. Its entirely possible that there's now two version of GrayONE, with version A being what we have seen with WAFF, KMOV, WCSC, etc and version B being what we are seeing on KNOP and KNSB. Other than the ticker and font there certainly are similarities between the two. Its possible there test alternative packages in smaller markets. Additionally, this could be an alternative to be primarily used by ABC affiliates, but optional for others.

  33. My only issue with the "stripping" of affiliate logos from these stations is that these affiliations lend a form of credibility to them. Bad actors have been lifting and creating fake logos for use on illegitimate "news" sites for the sole purpose of spreading disinformation. Even with FOX affiliates, despite any link to their affiliates and "news" channel. The link between them is minimal and any well-educated person should know that. Being a heritage station and Raycom's idea to use their highly visible longtime neon sign as their main brand is a brilliant branding move. Same with WAVE in Louisville resurrecting their "WAVE" logo from years past.

  39. I feel like... 10% bad for him. News seems to be his passion and I wish the guy luck, but he's been in the biz for decades now. He started in his teens with public access "news" programs. Which for being a teen, was impressive. He even got his show posted on NMSA under "Rose City News". But...he's not a teen anymore and he's since had multiple stints at professional stations in various positions. So he's more than had enough time to bring his skills up to snuff. If this is what he's putting out, the criticism is deserved.

  40. In the interest of fairness, as the person responsible for posting the video that went "viral".... Austin Reed did post tonight's newscast and he did take everyone's concerns to heart. He has replaced all of the various music lifted off of News Music Now with proper News One tracks that he is authorized to use, downloaded directly from WCPM, and only that package. I think he did read the FTVLIve piece that was published this morning and got rid of the podcaster-hosted sports segment in favor of an extended interview. He also put a disclaimer at the end that it was recorded at CentralValleyTalk.com studios (an obvious swipe at FTVLive for claiming that it was shot in his basement). He actually did license it — he sent my friend the contract he has with WCPM, so it is legal. Mark Agent is a legitimate person, the licensing director for WCPM. Apparently he had difficulties downloading the audio tracks and resorted to NMN for the first show. Should he have done that? No, but give him credit for getting that rectified quickly. News Music Now is very much aware. He commented on my video: They are licensed, so nothing is going to come of this. At the end of the day, I do feel kind of bad that Austin has received some of the hate he's gotten. Some of it is rightfully so and well deserved: lifting others' news video (even if he gave a YouTube credit) is not acceptable, and is not fair use if he's profiting off of it (which he is, there's advertising, it's all direct response ads, but there's ads) and he does seem to be making some strides to getting things right. There was a fair amount of lifted video this evening so I think it'll take him a while, but nowhere near the amount that there was Friday. The presentation could use a lot of work, and he knows that. He is actively shopping around for a graphics package and has had interest from a couple of designers. Given the fact that is a one person operation, I will give him credit and I think this product is only going to improve over time. He had a week to launch (they were airing NewsNet in the timeslot the past three months after they declined to renew their outsourcing arrangement with KFSN at the end of 2021) and I guess they had to have NewsNet gone by the end of March. So I will give him a lot of props for stringing together what he could on such short notice.

  43. I'm going to say something, and you might be a little surprised. I disagree with you on many of your points, but I do appreciate knowing your final assessment of all of this. Now, I'm not looking to debate anything, I think we can agree to disagree, and be gentlemen on the matter. That said, I still insist that it's not Idler's intent to destroy the station. It literally makes no sense. Including Idler, four managers have been in place during the nearly 3-decade run as number one, and no one wants to be the one to lose it. Sure, they've recently lost some ground, but I really don't think that's anyone's fault. ANYONE. It's just the nature of the business. There are high points, low points, and the transitional periods. The latter is where I believe WLS currently sits. Whether that's still dropping or back rising, I'm not sure. The other stations in town (save for one) have become more competitive, and are testing the strength of the Circle 7. It's a generational cycle, but I think channel 7 still has years before there's anything to truly be worried about. They're not going to win every slot everyday, that's just how it goes. Back to the boss. He's made several mistakes, for sure. There are many words I'd use for him...aloof, conforming, (somewhat) insensitive, even lazy, but most of all NAIVE...certainly not bastard (which I kinda think is a little immature, but to each his own). Again, why would anyone want to destroy a station? I don't think that he's trying to ruin everything as much as he doesn't properly understand the history. Yes, a lot of supposed "research" was done, and you'd think somewhere along the line Idler and Miles would've picked up some stuff, but they didn't. For that, I call them lazy and oblivious, but I maintain that none of this is malicious. He was good enough that Barr employed him, I'd like to think that would count for something. Again, lazy and oblivious, not "no-good dirty lowdown bastards". That's probably a little more than harsh, and even on an adult-driven forum like this, a tad unprofessional and inappropriate. As for Miles, he has his presentation style, it is what it is. I'm not too thrilled with his moves, either. As for the changes...for me, most of it is some little things. For you, it's one big thing. I wholeheartedly agree that the music usage is messy. The late shows are fairly consistent, but the update lacks the personality of the '92 package. I'm mostly satisfied with the opens. They look good, the wording is a little odd, but the cuts work. The PM talent opens are, to my taste, close enough to the original to warrant a half thumbs-up from me. The mornings are especially rough, though. The short open still sounds crappy with how it cuts off suddenly. The talent open, like the later shows, is pretty good. I don't like the use of NS2K13+ (that's what I'm calling it) for the morning bumpers, but I don't really like the bumper to start with. In turn, I don't really like the evening close. The EWN cut used for the morning close is pretty sweet. It's a little outdated, and it's not a theme we're used to on WLS, but it's got substance. Overall, I still think they could've done worse. I do appreciate that they didn't COMPLETELY switch to Eyewitness News. I'll miss the old packages, but I'll get used to it (I already have, and that disappoints me greatly). In terms of graphics, they are what they are. There's clearly a lot of common features seen on other ABC stations, but this is, without a doubt its own package. A little resemblance across the station group is one thing, and standardized graphics are another. I'm glad ABC appears to be sticking with the former. Some of the animations are pointless, or at minimum overdone, but that's just the nature of graphics these days. Most of it is quick, quite fluid and looks decent, unlike WABC's which is WAAAAAAAAAAAY overdone. Look at the 2005 package, it fit the style of that time just as much as the new look does. For my money, WLS is still putting out the best product in town, even if some aspects are lacking compared to the past. WFLD is shit. WGN is looking a little stale these days (and I'm not talking about ANOTHER L3 refresh). WBBM is decent, but the set is lacking and they have several flaws in their presentation. And last but not least, to the single most overrated media entity in town, channel 5. I like very little about anything they do anymore. Sometimes I actually wish they went back to the pre-2012 WMAQ. The set is good, the anchor teams are mediocre (I'll never understand the appeal of Stafford and Rosati as a team), and the station's use of graphics and music are weak. They took a good theme and put in no effort, resulting in a very cheap listening experience. And Look F on NBC5 makes me wish we had Look A again. Case in point, here is a comparison of WLS and WMAQ's breaking news graphics, taken this afternoon at nearly the same time... The WMAQ image really makes me want to throw up. It looks like crap. Look F is very clean, yet the WMAQ graphics department makes it look beyond clunky and cartoonish. I'd rather they'd switch to the serifed, LA Grooved New York/San Fran presentation. At least that's classy. The other thing that really irks me about channel 5 is the eternal chip they have on their shoulder. They've become competitive in the mornings, and have shown growth (albeit minimal) in the later hours, yet they act like they won a freakin' Nobel prize. Channel 7 does the same thing, but at least they've earned the right. Something about their overall image comes off as so pretentious, when the biggest difference between old and new NBC5 is a glorified paint job and an investigative unit. Anyway, back on-topic. I don't like a lot of the recent changes at WLS. I can't fully dictate how disappointed I am at some things, for I'd be going against my personal standards of decency to do so. To close, this may sound like an attack to some, but all I have to say is, that if the station's management, content, look and sound have changed to the point of instilling anger, I'm only left to ask... WHY ARE YOU STILL WATCHING?

  44. Hearing the 4pm tease just minutes ago, it appears they'd replaced that "slow" recording of the main NS2000+ open cue with that WABC EWN promo cue, the same music that's played on the 10pm tease during Wheel.

  48. Wow! (That's an oh boy, put on your rubber boots because this could be a shit storm, "wow") What I find most interesting about this is the reaction comments on Facebook. The people are soo straight forward and down right will say if they hate it or love it, and they have. Like anything this will take some time to get used to. Some of the people surely noticed a huge change. Comments include: "Wake up every morning to you guys....but the promo is kinda weird...like everyone is freaking out on a coffee rush....it's way over the top, just tone it down a bit." "Love it. Different from the usual tone of your promos, but cool nonetheless. Love ABC news." "Cheesy" " I just threw up a bit in my mouth. Can I get that minute back that I just wasted?" "Bring on the excitement, wonderful, great job Team ABC 7!!!!!!" "You paid for that?" "U could have come up with a better song." "wow - very modern style promo; excellent!" "Ha...we'll give you a couple minutes of REAL news and then the rest of the time we'll fill in with reports of make-overs, summer fashion, cats stuck in trees, and weather, weather, weather, oh...did I mention weather?" "Reminds me of intro to windy city live." "My Lord its like a LAXATIVE commercial." "If you're up@ 4:30am you don't want all that noise..liked the old softer, more dignified version better. The new version is obnoxious and annoying" "I like everything except the music!!!!" Wow! Hold on Boys and Girls!
