  1. What do you got to lose? Better to try something unique to spark energy and fail, than try nothing new and fail anyway.

  2. Nothing major, but Scripps updated the top banner of their websites

  3. Clever, just can’t unsee the oxymoron of “Local” 10 “World” News The network evening newscasts are heavy on feature style human interest reporting, curious how their ABC World News audience will respond to this version

  4. WPLG is launching their version of World News on August 4th.

  5. I think it's a good idea. Local TV news needs all the help it can get, and this is a very innovative way of doing it. This'll help viewers have a more personal connection with WDIV. Also, the article mentions that WDIV is moving production of their daily lifestyle show there.

  6. Boy, are you gonna hate watching KTLA then. WPLG is the top-rated English-language station in Miami. WJXT has similar success in Jacksonville. They’ll be fine.

  7. I will say at least the new set will help with the seamless transition between "local 10 news" and "local 10 world news"

  8. So they're going the WJXT route when they first went Independent and had Eyewitness World News for a short time. However, they may also look to KHON's Hawaii's World Report for some inspiration.

  9. That’s probably going to happen within weeks. It underscores how much of a contradiction Miami is. One half is extremely superficial and transient, the other half are the deeply paleoconservative Cuban emigres for which WPLG was blatantly pandering to with the “no bias” tagline. Neither of those groups would seem receptive to national and world news (the latter likely only regarding Cuba and for the most cynical of reasons). Unlike others here and elsewhere, to me, this feels like a recipe for disaster for WPLG. I can’t exactly give them or WANF any real chance for success when the industry is encountering so many headwinds and with syndication becoming extinct.

  10. The notion of over-diluting one’s brand with too much local news continues to feel self-destructive. In what way is WPLG going to benefit by airing more news to a smaller overall audience? And especially when they are simply Xeroxing the 6:30 network newscast, which is itself a game of total attrition? To be blunt, WPLG might just be the biggest blotch on what was a sterling career for Warren Buffett. His successors can’t wait to offload it to Nexstar.

  11. Just wanted to share this for the fans of long credit closes; it's 4th of July hiatus time for the show, so this morning's Kelly & Mark was a blended repeat of several interviews with the last segments cut (i.e. Fall Fitness Week or New Year/New You) when they were still in the old studio, but appropriately the first shot in this was of the view from atop Iger, so I thought I'd fit it in here since the network/WABC usually don't linger for long on skycam network shots. Plus we rarely get to hear the full show theme these days. Enjoy!

  12. It was a live news event. I'm sure Carr will not investigate airing what trump says, considering he is his puppet.

  13. This is both a win and a loss for Gray. The win? Gray gets total control of WANF and can basically run whatever it wants. What’s going to fill those extra hours? More news and more locally-produced programming, which will lead to more advertising revenue, since WANF doesn’t have to share with CBS. It can also treat WANF as a testing ground of sorts for the rest of its stations. Plus, it’s not like CBS’ ratings did WANF any wonders. The loss? Gray is doubling down on a format that is losing viewers and revenue. Unless you’re a baby boomer who takes the prescription medicine advertised on the commercials during the evening news, you’re probably not watching local TV. WANF’s ratings are also a distant third or fourth place. Few people are watching. It’s been that way ever since Meredith ran and mismanaged the station. No amount of “more local news” and “more local sports programming” will change that.

  14. Don't know what Warren Buffet is thinking with this decision. They're gonna rue the day they did this. Nobody my age is interested in watching a quasi all news channel.

  15. With the folks behind the standard doing all they can to sabotage ATSC 3.0 as a DRM'ed mess with weakened coverage areas to distribute FAST channels and websites nobody needs, this is just another nail in the coffin for it. Sunbeam is right to just give up on it and end the farce and focus on just channel 7 alone and figure out something else for their 3.0 plans; ABC and Fox don't even take advantage of 3.0 90% of the time.

  17. I think in this instance that Local 10 is the branding of the channel, and World News is the name of the broadcast on Local 10.

  18. Kind of an interesting idea. I really didn't care for the entirely AI-written article about their own endeavor though... it has hallmarks of ChatGPT throughout which feels really lazy.

  19. Interesting concept. Seems like it's an idea they should have tried decades ago as lifestyle programming ...cough cough "pay for play" and online interactivity was beginning to take off.

  20. I agree. With all the cuts in television, this is what they decide to spend their money on? I don’t see this lasting a year. It won’t attract viewers, if that’s what they’re hoping for.

  22. First of all, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Secondly, are things so profitable with Sean McLaughlin at Graham that they can afford to do this?

  23. The same is true for Studio A (Live with Kelly & Mark), Studio B (View/Tamron), and Studio 4i (WNN/GMA First Look). Part of the Channel 7 studio floor is also made of LED. The new ESPN studios (Studio 1 and Studio Y) have traditional floors.

  24. In his blog, Frank Macek, a Senior Broadcast Director at Tegna's WKYC, questions the relevance of local network affiliations. Despite his expected propping of his station, interesting points were made. https://wkycdirectorscut.blogspot.com/2025/06/franks-take-do-local-tv-stations-still.html?m=1
