WXIA moved into WATL's building after Gannett (TEGNA) acquired the station. Previously, WXIA was located on Peachtree Street, behind WSB-TV. As WXIA outgrew its former space, management decided to relocate to the One Monroe location following the completion of the WATL sale. The new building offers significantly more space, and NBC News also maintains a presence there.2 points

Bold of anyone to assume that Carr will do anything based on FCC precedent and not use the commission as a political weapon and tool to enrich his friends. The GOP House and Senate will dutifully fall in line with whatever Carr demands, with either Susan Collins or Mitch or Murkowski clutching their pearls or some stupid stunt and it won’t matter because their votes are irrelevant to the outcome anyway. And the dems will be too feckless, useless and old to do anything. The fix is in.2 points

It was actually off the air for the year after the pandemic botched their plan to move the operation to New York so NBC could attempt to have an ABC-like appearance lineup where someone could do GMA, Live, and The View in a matter of hours, just with Today and I guess Kelly Clarkson...forgetting that E! is a cable network and a few celebrities would rather appear on a Midwestern morning zoo than be stuck on that channel. Frankly, the end of the entertainment news show being a thing with Extra being a shambling shell of its former self and ET's decline where stations don't even need a proper reason to pre-empt any longer, the entire form is dead. Social media brings all the entertainment news first and without the lameness of editing around corporate sensitivities.2 points

This isn’t a slam on participants but I don’t understand why certain threads — notably this one and WPVI — seem to be flooded with posts regarding whom is subbing for whom. Maybe because it’s summer the thread is short on content.2 points

This all confirms to me that GMA First Look will be the LAST ABC program on WPLG at 4am and the FIRST ABC program on the new ABC Miami at 4:30am. https://wsvn.com/entertainment/a-new-era-abc-miami-debuts-on-aug-4-on-channels-7-2-and-18/?FBWSVN&fbclid=IwY2xjawLxFjxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnbhHq0hdNF9eXK91DkilKcWMQPDYdJ-A38QlQkVhXBekUWHnxgJxa31wYrU_aem__ItMrJ45l-FQrChHZWQ-5g1 point

It's been the 7th place station there since the beginning of time. And it doesn't help matters to be so close to Detroit, Lima, and even have CBET pumped in from Windsor with some things the CBC carries that NBC carries as well....1 point

Well, it's the summer and not much is happening in the stations these days, so this our defacto banter to keep the board and presence alive . Its also a way to speculate future talent changes and lineups, which a lot of us seem to be interested in over the years since the inception of these forums. We used to even have dedicated threads about specific talents which we've long stopped doing.1 point

Has there been any mention of the future of WANF's carriage on services like YouTube TV and Hulu? WUAB is another question mark since WBNX will be the CW station once again for Cleveland come September 1st....1 point

I did not know where to put this on the forum. It is a broadcasting-related thing but has nothing to do with TV news... its Music Choice. Available on major cable providers such as Comcast, Charter (soon-to-be Cox), and others, its still one of the most popular digital audio services on cable TV today, though in the past few years, it has gained major competition from Stingray (which is available in more places on some of their channels, such as Samsung TV Plus and Plex, for example. At one point, this used to be CBC Canada's Galaxie. That's wild to think about). Coming August 26th, a HUGE exodus of changes will be taking place on their lineup. It will remain a 50-channel lineup on cable TV, but the TL;DR version is this... Ten channels (including Hit List) will be renamed. Ten NEW channels will be added. Ten current channels will be removed from cable TV and are moving exclusively to their streaming TV/mobile apps (I have it and only pay $1 a month for it which gives me access to 80 extra channels). https://www.musicchoice.com/channelupdates1 point

We don't have the new schedules for WANF and WPCH just yet, especially with how newscasts will look. However, we do know of two new programs coming late August as it gets its independence going. Both will be sports-related, especially College Football-related: ANF Gametime and ANF Overtime. They'll rely on help from former UGA QB Jake Fromm for analysis with sports director Baillie Burmaster. It begins on Saturday, August 30th, nearly two weeks after WANF goes Indie. https://www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2025/07/25/atlanta-news-first-launches-new-college-football-pre-post-game-shows-featuring-former-uga-star-jake-fromm/1 point

Meanwhile South Park (a Paramount entity) just premiered its 27th season featuring a naked President Trump with a microscopic private part in a relationship with The Devil --- just typing it out sounds insane lol. A character even urges others to be quiet before Paramount cancels them. We'll see what the blow back from that is. While Colbert's cancellation may definitely be influenced by Trump I doubt it's the sole reason given, being that other Paramount entities feature even sharper Trump criticism.1 point

I think they'll continue with coverage leading up to the race & honestly, this might be better for them in terms of coverage of the actual Oaks race because I think when it was on USA/Peacock, any races that aired there, was exclusively live to them & WAVE3 aired the races on a slight tape delay.1 point

And when that mercifully closes, expect Skydance to dispose of CBS and sell it all to Nexstar. Because Perry Sook will easily agree to the demands set forth by Brendan Carr against employees doing actual journalism, that deal will assuredly be greenlit in a matter of weeks. Carr might even reward Perry for his fealty and do away with the ownership caps completely.1 point

The set they had before was completely fine, one of the best in market. The main improvement I see so far is that the seamless video wall behind the anchors looks a bit better with the skyline at the edges.1 point

FCC can't trash a whole lot. The top 4 rule was made up by the FCC in 2002 under Bush. The way it was instituted had so many holes that never got taken care of. Then congress in 2004 put the 39% cap in place and took FCC's authority away from being able to modify it. Congress will have to go back and rescind that, the FCC is stuck with it. FWIW Newsmax came out against any loosening of the rules that allows concentration of station ownership, and sounds like they'd even like a return to the old 25% hard cap and no UHF discount which would cause Nexstar and others to have to divest 20-40% of their portfolio1 point

I can’t speak for the WPVI thread but for New York, it’s been interesting to point only when notable fill in or pairings are made. For instance they began rotating several network level talent, Liz Cho anchoring weekend mornings or at 11, etc.1 point

As of last night, (not sure for the rest of the week) but the regular team was on for the 11pm show. Mike and Sade were back on the air last night, along with Lee Goldberg and Ryan Field. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/17267536/ Wild how now we can seemingly just go to the site and just find the newscast of our liking and watch. Sign of the times!1 point

I guess that begs the bigger question, any reason why the Today show is 4 hours M-F and not Sa-Su? Why The Tonight Show skips Saturday and Sunday? Why local stations do more newscasts M-F and not Sa-Su? I mean this isn't hard ... local NBC's repeat their 11pm news on the M-F schedule (which runs into early Saturday am) and they don't repeat it on the Sa-Sun schedule (which runs into early Monday am). Lots of reasons why - one that comes to mind is the late news is most likely to be delayed or adjusted because of sports overruns on Saturdays and Sundays so why force editing or adjusting on a weekend when you're running an even more bare-bones staff?1 point

A big loss in Oregon television is coming up in November... Jeff Gianola's retirement. 43 years on television, 42 of them in Portland. The first 15 years at KATU, and now the last 27 years at KOIN. Not surprising to say that his last newscast will be late November, which sounds more likely he'll retire before Thanksgiving and the holiday season. https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/longtime-portland-anchor-jeff-gianola-to-retire-in-november/1 point

In the end, Paramount Global didn’t settle because they were wrong. They didn’t settle because it was fair. They settled because that’s how power works now. Grease the right palms, press the right flesh, and you can say whatever the hell you want—as long as you don’t mean it. In the end, they sold out the truth for 16 million bucks. ... that’s a hell of a bargain.1 point

It seems like the logotype font is a custom version of Franklin Gothic (funny, ‘cause I always noticed similarities between the Fox wordmark and FG, and even tried replicating the wordmark using that font when I was a teenager). The bowls and kerning of some of the lettering help give it a hybrid style of FG and the Fox logo, but they look a little off from the derived logo (noticeable towards kickoff, during the promotion of the Fox Deportes simulcast, when the logotype was used instead of the actual logo).1 point

CNN as well despite any assurance that they are a genuine news channel. If the channels' day is filled with punditry and opinion of ANY kind, that ship has sailed. Sadly, the concept of a "news channel" is long gone. The only thing that even comes close are the "live" variants like NBC News Now and Fox's LiveNow.1 point

MLB has arranged carriage of games on regular cable TV (usually on the spare channel on cable systems carrying news or filler content), and it's only a gametime broadcast rather than wrapped around wobbly Jenga content to create a 24/7 'regional sports network' that's anything but (if that was true, legend's tennis and poker would not have a home). You're paying the same cost for Bally anyways, so it might as well go to a quality game broadcast than countless fishing and poker shows.1 point
-
Not a good move from a fan prospective. The MLB does better than Bally's when it comes to producing the broadcasts, but their pay to watch structure has been a pain for DBacks and Padres fans. Rockies fans will experience the same thing. It's just as bad as Bally Sports. But with Baseball, TV deals have to become more expensive so teams can build up a higher player salary. The Dodgers are able to build a super team because of their TV deal with Spectrum. The MLB at some point needs to enforce a salary cap if they don't want to lose fans. That way, teams can cut an easier deal with local TV stations so games will be a more available to watch on TV. And it will be more competitive across the league so teams like the Dodgers don't reach the World Series every year.1 point

I actually like CBS' scorebar. My only issue with it is they went away from TT Norms which is odd given how married the rest of the company's presentation is to it. It also seems like they're slowly adding elements to the overall on screen look to match it.0 points
