Why do I see so much complaining about this? This is great for local viewers. It’s a good, old-fashioned shakeup. The stations are forced to kick it up a notch and compete again. Things got stale. Even the networks are going in for the fight. NBC has sent Tom Llamas to South Florida to anchor this week. They’re getting creative again, duking it out for viewers and talking directly to the viewers. It’s not just adding some new jumpbacks or new drone vid, or sharpening the hues a bit on the news opens, or God forbid the expense of a new graphics package which would have to be adopted by all corporate stations. They’re trying new things, taking risks, in Miami. The public wins.4 points

As long as it remains a simulcast in terms of news, there's no way that would happen.3 points

What do you mean? Christine Devine has been the lead co-anchor at FOX11 since the early 90s. Outlasting co-anchors Chris Harris (RIP), Bob Donley, John Beard, Carlos Amezcua, Jeff Michael, Dan Cohen and now Elex Michaelson. She has as much experience and gravitas in the market as Colleen Williams and Pat Harvey.3 points

Not sure why we're collectively shitting on the World News broadcast... It's pretty impressive for a local station. I'm usually quick to denounce the "more news" mindset that has infected local television, but I understand what the goal is here. Yes, it's "more news", but it's replacing a network newscast and going up against network news. They're trying something that's not just the same local stories from 30 minutes ago run on a loop. It's different, and we should be celebrating that.3 points

The Miami part I get. As for the graphics, they're simulcasting so there would be no reason to differentiate the graphics.2 points

If WFOR is sold to Nexstar I will personally fly to New York and have the bosses at CBS get there heads checked.2 points

The business of affiliation switches, again CBS isn’t doing anything to try to get viewers during this time of confusion and chaos for viewers they should want some windfall from this. I don’t think they’ll ever be a switch ever again, Miami is gonna just have the unique distinction of being a major market where a station carries 2 affiliations. The winner really is Sunbeam and WSVN this mean more money for them in terms of profit and ad revenue so there gonna keep this for a long time. And eventually they’ll probably buy WDFL the station that helping relay this new ABC signal.2 points

Probably Marla, I wouldn’t mind seeing a female anchor team. Christine and Marla or Marla and Christine whatever management bills it as. I liked him sometimes like I said he treated this job as if he was a national anchor, but I don’t hate him. I don’t think it’s nice to level or compare him to other people who anchored at FOX where he’s better than them or not, he earned his marks y’all are being mean.2 points

Definitely not up there with John Beard. He had a pretty solid career at KNBC before going to KTTV. Elex is/was popular with the younger viewers, but never drew enough eyeballs to make them competitive. He started his KTTV career post KABC doing GDLA.2 points

I think he's more talking about CBS in terms of preparing WUPA in Atlanta to affiliate with them, don't think they'll be getting anywhere near the same kinda red carpet treatment that ABC's given to WSVN 7.2 & they're going to be a network O&O too!!!1 point

Another station falling victim to the new automation system that TEGNA is developing: WZZM Grand Rapids. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1358369806294135&id=1000636338474831 point

I don't mind the graphics in a vacuum, they're more inspired than what WHDH has and certainly better than the dull "flat design" that 99.9999% of newscasts are using these days. My point is that the flat ABC logo doesn't match the glossiness of the rest of the package, so it looks like a lazy copy-paste job. It's also strange and potentially confusing for viewers that it's only the ABC logo without the Miami wordmark. And truthfully, as a major network affiliate in a top 20 media market, it seems a bit cheap for WDFL to be using the exact same graphics as WSVN anyway. Hopefully once the new station is more established they'll start to give it more of its own identity.1 point

GMA Miami Tour: Day 3. This time, its Lynn Martinez and Joe Roetz (the weeknight B-team) joining in on the fun. (Off-topic: NBC Nightly News is also in Miami this week so Miami, my backyard, is in the national spotlight for sure).1 point

KTVQ Billings has announced that Hailey Monaco is their new morning anchor. That line alone is not necessarily newsworthy around here. However, this time is different because Hailey's director inside the control room during the morning newscast is the one who launched the show and knows her personally... 39-year KTVQ veteran and more importantly, her father: Rob Monaco. https://www.ktvq.com/news/local-news/new-anchor-joins-montana-this-morning-and-shes-keeping-it-in-the-family1 point

To be fair, Elex is/was great with poltical reporting and that is where he shines but other than that, there is nothing that special about him. He is definitely not on the same journalistic level of the other people who were anchors at FOX 11 but he is tough and fair so people do respect that. Hopefully Elex’s new opportunity will pay him better and allow him to be stable. As far as who his replacement on the 5, 6, and 10pm newscasts: we shall see.1 point

Scrippscasts are the clearly pre-recorded newscasts, which take twice as much effort to put together as the LIVE broadcasts. I feel bad for whoever buys Scripps and has to undo all of this.1 point

I was surprised when he got that job at KTTV... Was lackluster here in San Diego.1 point

It looks like this will have all the current in-season program episodes available to cable/vMVPD customers who have a Fox station in their packages that get loaded on Fox dot com the exact minute linear TV broadcasts begin (yes, shared with Hulu the next day), and live feeds of Fox stations as well.1 point

Thank you. That was somewhat of a ridiculous thing to say lol. Elex is solid but doesn’t come anywhere close to John Beard. Hell, he isn’t even Carlos Amuezca.1 point

We need a black Telemundo, with news, shows I don’t know about sports. I never watch anything Byron does keep in mind he killed the only black news outlet and merged it into TheGrio, saying we need a “good news channel”, I could rant about older black people for hours anyways we need a news outlet targeted toward us or a digital multicast network that has both news and shows. We need a Jorge Ramos (like the former Univision anchor) but for black people we could name him Laquerious Holt lol. We could have commentators like Dr. Umar Johnson, and Tariq Nasheed, and Judge Joe Brown, Paris Denard. but no Roland Martin (I don’t like him).1 point

The package is of the networks which have cable/satellite coverage (except Fox Soccer); frankly it should be a subchannel network and I don't know why they've never pulled the trigger on putting on the O&Os, but they seem happy distributing Sinclair and Weigel's channels. But they have wide FAST coverage anyways outside Tubi and FoxLocal.1 point

Seven months after being ridiculously fired from WDJT for calling out Elon Musk’s Nazi salute, Sam Kuffel is coming back to Wisconsin TV at WGBA in a temporary fill-in role as morning meteorologist Perhaps waiting out a noncompete before coming back at WTMJ?1 point
-
Yep. He left KABC several years back, sounded like he wasn’t happy there, or getting a chance to anchor. Anchoring the 10pm newscast at KTTV is a big deal and Elex was well regarded in the market and popular with younger viewers. He was certainly right up there with John Beard.1 point
-
What's his story? Didn't he work at KABC? Was he a popular anchor in the market?1 point
-
It's available as a $5 add-on, and I should note that all MVPD/cable subscribers will get access to it for no cost, so thankfully they don't have to pay for it.1 point

Rather conveniently, Llamas is actually from the Miami area, so this is likely a working vacation for him and NBC doesn't have to make up an official reason for his anchoring from there that doesn't mention ABC or WPLG.1 point

Fox extended their deal with Hulu/Disney last year to continue airing in-season shows the day after their linear broadcast. My guess is that a program's library (in all or parts) will be available on Fox One too. For example, only season 3 of Animal Control is available on Hulu and not the previous seasons. One would assume, season 1 & 2 will be on Fox One and once season 4 starts, then season 3 moves from Hulu to Fox One and so on.... I think the question is whether all Fox entertainment programs move to Fox One once the Hulu deal ends in 2029 or will they continue sharing content. I believe so. i think they want to offer bundles (Fox One & Fox Nation or Fox One, Fox Nation & Tubi, etc..) down the line too.1 point

KTUL has another new Chief Meteorologist. Jason Nappi joins both KTUL and KOKH where we will be doing 5,6,10pm for Tulsa and covering OKC when Jack Gerfen is off. He has officially started as of yesterday but will make his on air debut Friday morning when he gets introduced to the markets and will do the weather that evening.1 point

I get the business intent of doing a straight knockoff of ABC WNT - it's what viewers expect on that channel at that hour and they only had a few months to pull it together with little to no capital investment - but I think I'm still a little shocked that it is really that much of a knockoff. I gave up trying to believe TV news is driven by an actual strategy when I left the business almost a decade ago, but one would think this program slowly develops its own identity which makes watching worthwhile. Not all knockoffs are equal. Will this be Kirkland Signature World News or Great Value?1 point

It really does and what’s the purpose of doing world/national news when that’s what is being aired on every other station at 6:30…especially if you’re trying to say you’re a “local station”?1 point

That's actually a good idea - do a test run on a newscast less likely to be seen in case there's a glitch, so the ones with more viewers are less likely to see technical difficulties. Conversely, all of the NFL's broadcasters choose to debut new graphics during a Super Bowl, which in my opinion, is really stupid. If something goes wrong, everyone sees it and the broadcaster becomes laughingstock. Also, why debut new graphics at the END of a season rather than at the beginning?1 point
-
Noon is typically a low-viewership period, so it's a good time to debut and work out the kinks before the big shows at 5, 6 and 11/10pm.1 point

CNN as well despite any assurance that they are a genuine news channel. If the channels' day is filled with punditry and opinion of ANY kind, that ship has sailed. Sadly, the concept of a "news channel" is long gone. The only thing that even comes close are the "live" variants like NBC News Now and Fox's LiveNow.1 point

looks like FOX rolled all their cable nets retrans fees and called it FOXOne. Great for those into sports I guess but my Disney+ and Hulu no ads subscription is $20/month. lack of money as we saw recently. Definitely no cash to start clean from zero with investors who can stomach losing money for 5 years hoping it sticks. Add Byron Allen as the CEO and you have a death timer Spanish TV also isn't raking the big bucks either. Univision was sold in 2020, after 14 years of no losses, for the $10B debt it had, plus $800 mil in cash for 64% equity, valuing it at $1.2B - 91% loss of value. It sold in 2006 to big private equity for $13.5 billion, the future of Spanish TV. AmericaTeVe - imploded after their sugar daddy bailed on them and took what he paid for with him. SBS - sold MegaTV three years ago for $64 million but the buyer reneged unable to scrounge up the cash. Telemundo has NBCUniversal to prop them up but even WSCV can barley make more than WSFL-TV after 20 years, and being #1 in Miami. Jorge Ramos is only who he is because the network invested in him over time. Another one of those things that are not coming back, especially if more talent is doing well for themselves just sitting on their kitchen table talking at a camera. Judge Brown is enjoying the podcast circuit, though he probably had potential to be one of the star talking heads in his younger years but instead chose 2-3 months of a work a year for the same paycheck. Candace is doing 1 mil views on a bad day and $$$$$. Shannon Sharpe got his 2 million subs on YT too. Stephen A Smith also doesn't need an employer though he's on SiriusXM.0 points

It's a good test to see how many people want to pay $20 to watch Fox News and drop cable. This and ESPN going a-la-carte could be the death knells for cable and satellite. I'd pay a little money to watch Tubi content without ads. They have a decent library of programming.0 points

Shocking development at FOX LA. Elex Michaelson, the prime time news anchor at KTTV is leaving the station. Unknown where he’s going next. The departure appears to be amicable. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2025-08-05/long-time-anchor-elex-michaelson-leaving-kttv0 points

I say give WPLG a chance with its World News broadcast. I appreciate that they didn't just throw in a syndicated show or another standard newscast - which they certainly could've chosen to do instead. The fact a local station is making an attempt at a broadcast like that to begin with deserves a chance. Personally I believe there is an audience that wants an alternative to what the networks currently offer at 6:30 but still having a national/international focus. Also, their World News show has only been on the air one day so far. With time I'm sure they will refine it and make any necessary changes to improve on a solid idea. Branding wise, I personally think the music needs to be changed out. Graphics are very solid however.0 points
