1. One thing I found interesting was that Ari posted on Instagram Stories was that only on Friday they started rehearsals. And it looked like they were working on the theme song as well in the NBC Music department. I imagine it will be some hip hop or rap type thing based on the show's name and Ari's tweets about loving rap.
2. Jonathan McCall has replaced Marcus Washington as weekend evening anchor at WJZ.
3. His show starts next Monday. It's called The Beat.
4. The closet think made me laugh. The whole Keurig thing made me laugh - don't they know how expensive those pods are. They should of got one of those coffee makers that make eight things - something like a vending machine. Taking away coffee from the newsroom would cause a riot.
5.
TVNT's very own @alaskanews is leaving Scripps and his role as National Correspondent for The Now this Friday. It was always a little enjoyable to see him on WTMJ after knowing him on here for so many years. Best of luck in whatever you do next, Todd!
Had no idea I was following him and HelloDollyTheDog Instagram. Good luck!
6. I haven't heard anything about people leaving. They are also looking for a new meteorologist. In addition to a traffic reporter/anchor. With WMAR's new show (sounds like it may be The Now) I can't imagine WBAL would maintain status quo.
7. Jay Barbree is retiring from NBC news - just short of 60 years covering space for the network. He started with the network in July 1568. He has covered every manned US space mission from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. To be honest I thought he retired a long time ago based on the lack of space flight done in the US. In the past few years he's popped up a few times a year usually doing live hits from WESH. I honesty thought he was someone who was on retainer. Maybe this just means he's finally done with TV. However when SpaceX or Virgin Galactic take off in a few years time and he's still around I can't picture him not contributing to their coverage. As an aside note I wonder if the permanent broadcast booths all the networks had and some Orlando affiliates at the Launch Complex 39 Press Site are still standing, leased or owned by the networks or operational.
8. It's not in my guide anymore either and ever since TiVo turned to RoVi their guide was slow to update. I think it was on last week but it's Facebook hasn't been updated since June 27. It's a long shot but I tried the message feature on Facebook. However according to WikiPedia it states that Microsoft discontinued the free version of Microsoft Pulse and states it's only available now as a part of Skype for Business during a Skype Meeting Broadcast. So that likely meant the end of the show. I have not seen anything related to a premier date or name for Ari's show. He has been posting control room shots lately during times when the main studio 3A isn't in use (based on the time and as the cameras seen show an empty studio). Maybe they are rehearsing and going over different elements but to be honest I don't know why they can't go over the show in a conference room. Additionally based on the following Tweet it sounds like The Point is over: That and I haven't heard anything on when Thomas Roberts starts anchoring weekend nights or when in July they'll expand live coverage until 9PM eastern or rotas (a word learned from TVForum but never had a chance to use it.)
9. That's a decent studio. I'm amazed that they were doing it with the studio garage door open (as seen in the last pic). Seems like it could be a dangerous prospect during a live newscast.
10. So does WPVI occasionally do the whole weather balloon thing? Or was it more a promotional gimmick for "there goes that action news van" advertisement to say they went to space? I'm sure @Eat News will report that KBEX has one where if Dan Dan the Relapse Man is wet it's raining or pissed himself; if he's sweating profusely he's going through withdrawal or there's a heat wave; if he's swaying there's a strong gust of wind, he's still withdrawaling or on meth; if he's shivering it's cold or still going through withdrawal (it's a bitch); and if he's blue he overdosed.
11. Apparently WPLG aired blurred footage of an alligator eating the body of a missing student pilot in the Everglades. The studen took off on an unaccompanied flight on Sunday and the wreckage was found Wednesday. That was when the WPLG bird got the footage. Seems to be in extremely poor taste. Do the stations in Miami still share helicopters (save for WSVN)?
12. So we now have details on what Wyatt Everharts new role will be at WMAR. He will be hosting a lifestyle show during WMAR's dayside lineup this fall and no other details on this new show was given. Wyatt will also be working behind the scenes in sales and production departments. WMAR airs the following syndicated programs during the dayside: The Doctors, Rachel Ray, Right The Minute, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, T.D. Jakes and Harry. I'm assuming it will take TD Jakes' slot as his show was cancelled. TD currently airs at 3PM. Is it possible that The Now will be coming to Baltimore? Would The Now be considered a news show and isn't The Now scheduled adjacent to regular newscasts? If so WBAL would be the only station without a 4PM.
13. WMAR has been using emojis again in their weather forecasts. It
14. Also TVEyes. I think Volicon is more local recording. Where TVEyes actually records stations from all markets plus international channels,
15. Was wrong about the logos. The Dateline one was looking like a power outlet. But this one looked the camera aperture shutter. I found out about the show via the 12AM rerun of Maddow.
16. MSNBC is bringing back On Assignment with Richard Engel. Features the same logo as the Dateline version. It looks to be a special series with the first episode on Friday 7 July at 9PM. Ever so often MSNBC gives Richard Engel some airtime for his long form reports.
17. What book? I have the Fox Hole one but hasn't been read yet.
18. Yes but he was a contributor before that. Additionally his show was two hours long from 8-10pm and promoted. I haven't seen any promotion for Hugh's show - it just sort of premiered. Chris started guest hosting shows in 2010 for Maddow, Keith, Schultz and Lawrence.
19. It's a shame. Her show was decent but the Fox stigma probably hurt her more than anything with MSNBC loyalists. Ari's a good host and analyst.
20. So apparently WMAR Chief Meteorologist Wyatt Everhart isn't on air anymore. His Twitter bio lists him as a show host / media consultant at WMAR while their website still lists him as Chief Meteorologist. This leaves WMAR with three meteorologists Mike Taylor at night and Lynette Charles in AM (also listed online as Chief Meteorologist) and Adrienne Green. I noticed this when I saw a weather promo featuring only Mike and Lynette.
21. To stand up for WMAR they're getting a lot investment. Surely some Journal ones are weaker?
22. Got a link? I like reading that stuff especially if it has technical drawings.
23. When did they move? Initial PR for WCAU and WWSI was for three studios and occupying the 6-8 floors.
24. Maybe the wiring was already done and like I mentioned that work could already have started.
25. Is the move in target for the Comcast tower still this fall? I saw a picture on one of their journalist's Instagram story and the tower still hasn't been topped out. I know in some places tenants move in and are open for business while the building isn't yet complete. But I can't imagine that occurring in a broadcast studio enviroment. Or alternatively is the fall 2017 date the day the space is handed over to the stations and they start work installing everything?
