Same as WPLG. Very plain and flat. The previous package's L3s looked better. Again, the flat trend is still going.

Dual anchoring would make the most sense as it would differentiate them from the other two evening news shows. IMO It gels better with audiences to consistently have those two faces there. Split anchoring to me gives a discombobulated feel, like NBC Nightly News when John Chancellor and Chet Huntley were doing it. This was a great way to preview the broadcast, this should have been done more in the last few months. I hope it's a dual anchor situation as well because again, that would differentiate it from the other networks. I'm curious to see how this goes because IIRC, nearly all multi anchor evening news arrangements since Huntley Brinkley didn't work. The exception being WNT in 1979.

As we further examine the decline television news, these two articles say that the days of the high paid television anchor are over. In in the storytellers thread on Facebook someone even suggested the days of the local anchor making over $100,000 a year are done. The articles point to Hoda Kotb's departure from the Today Show after allegedly being asked to take a salary cut. They also point to Jimmy *Fallon cutting back to four new shows a week, and the removal of the 8G band from Late Night with Seth Meyers. https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/anchors-tv-news-stars-pay-cuts-exit-1236180206/ https://jacobsmedia.com/death-by-1000-salary-cuts/

CBS Newscasts arent exactly first place outside of 60 Mins and Sunday Morning. IMO expanding news output doesn't make sense for CBS. US broadcast television schedules are already saturated with local and national news. Yet another newscast would just be just more of the same: Trump, wildfires and the and the lastest mass shooting. CBS is going for a national/local synergy look. Im not opposed to a local set design for national if it still looks good I find the DC set pretty simple. Its just a room full of video walls, but it looked great once they darkened the graphics from light to navy blue for CBSEN.

Assuming they move the needle, I wonder what the breakup of their stable and flagship anchor team will mean for WCBS.

Snippets of the new set as the new duo was interviewed by Maurice's WCBS colleague Mary Calvi. I'm not seeing Deborah Norville on there as often these days. I'm really hoping the set lighting will look as dim on CBS's cameras because this looks great. I love the diverse landscapes in the background. It makes the broadcast seem more nationally oriented, and not just New York City/East Coast centric. It reminds me of Good Morning America's intro from the early Gibson/Sawyer era. In this era of washed out HD, dark lighting and warm colors look good.

Inside Edition on the Allen meteorologist story

CBS Mornings aired a tribute package for Nora, as today's her last day, (and coincidentally Nora's birthday according to Gayle). It seems like CBS is trying to be gracious as they ease her out. **Actual video now uploaded https://youtu.be/dFc9TUxZQPE?si=tpaqmHYTfgu5agHR Edit: Oprah also paid tribute to Nora on her last broadcast..

That's a very CNN branding

That system makes more sense to me, than having the morning anchors stay through the noon, and the 5pm team only does that one broadcast. I.e. when Lori & Ken did AM & noon, and Diana/Sade only did the 5.

Morning news anchors doing the Noon/11 am was industry standard for a long time. I'm glad to see many stations cutting back on that. Chris and Mary on WCBS were doing it up until Cindy Hsu took over. Michael and Darlene Don't do WNBC's midday newscast. This is the case for WNBC but I'm not sure if it's the case for WABC, are the same morning reporters also doing the noon?

The latest SNL depiction of MSNBC was unfortunately accurate. Their panel of host lined up like "The Avengers" , over obsessive coverage of Trump...to the line "we're Not going to give air time to every crazy Trump statement" despite doing it anyway.

Beyond the Gates covered by CBS Sunday Morning: The cinematography looks very different from other soaps. It's almost reminiscent of the soaps you see on OWN.

How much further can these corporations strip local news down to its bare bones? From the rise of MMJing, to GMs overseeing multiple stations, to Scripps getting rid of anchors and pre-recording newscasts, to Allen getting rid of meteorologists, to Sinclair outright shutting down newsrooms to air The National Desk, what next? It's a miracle that any college graduate wants to enter this profession.

I agree that CBS News is the best TV news organization quality wise. IMO 60 minutes, CBS Mornings, Sunday Morning, and Face The Nation are the best shows in their genres. Every time CBSEN rebrands we ponder why it remains in third place. Currently it's the best looking broadcast with similar story choice to the competition, so I really don't know. Part if it could be viewers never warmed up to Nora. Maybe David Muir and Lester Holt are bigger household names. Maybe historic viewership habits: people never returned after Cronkite. Why has CBSEN been in third historically? Dan Rather was a solid anchor, maybe people identified with Jennings and Brokaw a little bit more. Bob Schiffer was interim hosting, no telling what may have happened down the line. Katie Couric was a big name but I think her softer approach and editorials turned off viewers. Scott pelley was stiff, and Jeff Glor was unknown. Likewise ABC and NBC had stronger anchors since the big three era ended. What can CBSEN do to get out of third... IDK. Maybe international coverage to separate themself from the other two shows?

A tropical Florida-ized version of the KCAL set would be cool.

A pre WABC Toni Yates at Philly's WB17 ! (2002)

The temporary set looks better when the main anchor shot is kept at a close frame. Wide makes it look like they're in a closet.

I'm curious to see the current numbers as well. PIX 11 was once firmly in that weak spot but has certainly improved from 10 years ago. I also find it interesting that WNYW has the least reporters of the competition. All the other broadcast stations have around 20, Fox 5 has about 11.

Saw that during the Biden farewell address as well. It looks eeeh. CBS has had some really strange special report L3s for the last few years. Too flat and rectangular. Good color though. OCD moment...CBS was smart in slotting the presidential farewell address for a full 30 minutes. Unlike the other networks they don't have misaligned time slots causing local newscasts to start late.

Yes, they were friends with Trump. I noted in the LA fires thread that former GDNY anchor Jen Lahmers what's doing the same with her co-host on GDLA. The vitriol against bass seems to be coming from all angles.

Finally! Their current set is way past outdated. It's the worst of the Fox O&Os

That desk is a work of art.

I think Nora's Washington set is the best of the big three and I would have liked a recreation of that. At first glance this okay but definitely not better than the Washington set. Overall, It's remarkable how CBS went from the network with the worst sets to the best sets. IDK who their current design consultant is but stick with them!

My early guess is that the peacock logo is removed so viewers still don't associate it with NBC.
