  1. scenario two would be interesting... the possibility of the networks owning an O&O in every market.
  2. On that note, WOFL now has 2 more original Fox local programs on the schedule. "Florida Live" at 2pm (not sure how long that has been on) and "The 407" at 4pm, shifting Judge Judy (which lead into their report reportedly #one 5 PM newscast) to 3pm. Sister station WOGX in Gainesville has Fox Local's "The Jason Show" on at 12 PM and "Florida Live".
  3. Out of genuine curiosity, what would be the alternative?
  4. Christ. Why does everyone just so happen to have a merger deal going on now??? Is the timing coincidence, or were some companies waiting for a conservative administration hoping they'd get laxed monopoly policies?
  5. I agree that late night has become too much politics, and all the hosts have the same opinions. I agree the best part of Kimmel's show is his non-political stuff. Jimmy Fallon is my favorite because he has the best politics vs fun balance, but apparently audiences want more politics because he's third in the ratings. I always skip Kimmel's monologue because he's a one topic act, Donald Trump every night for the last 10 years. BUT Kimmel was correct here. The right was desperate to not have Kirk's killer be one of them (a white American gun owner--per Utah's governor) and Trump seemed to mourn Kirk's death quickly as he hastily switched an interview topic to construction. This is different from Roseanne and Tucker Carlson's cancellations. Roseanne made a racist/islamophobic comment and Tucker Carlson spewed false election conspiracy theories. As much as both sides have practiced cancel culture and steered into extremism, one side has been more governmentally aggressive. This particular situation is not both sided. A president and his one specific political party are utilizing the government to silence specific opposing media viewpoints.
  6. Because the corporate brass at Nexstar are probably watching the editorial actions of KTLA more closely than that of a random affiliate in a smaller or medium market.
  7. https://www.localsyr.com/news/national/abc-pulls-jimmy-kimmels-late-night-show-indefinitely-following-charlie-kirk-comments/amp/ Yeah, and it looks like ABC nextar affiliates are side stepping the issue too. I saw an article in WSYR which was a copy and paste from the AP. It didn't even mention that WSYR is a Nexstar owned ABC affiliate for transparency purposes. Wether or not you perceive what Jimmy Kimmel said as insensitive, did he not just reiterate what Utah's Trump supporting governor said: The irony in all of this is that the right is now perpetrating the same cancel culture that the left has been rightfully and constantly called out for. But this isn't new. Left leaning media like MSNBC (and to a lesser degree) CBS and ABC have been talking about holding Trump to account for years yet bowed to him the moment he applied pressure on them.
  8. In that case, I've been on sites like primetime and daytime tv boards, where there are occasional (but not as persistent) rude comments and those are very quickly shut down or called out.
  9. Next on the hit list, The View... I question how they will proceed with this topic.
  10. As if the propaganda couldn't get any spicier
  11. I see Kimmel being offended by this move and quitting, and doing his own thing on maybe HBO or streaming.
  12. I cant stand Kimmel ranting about Trump EVERYnight....BUT what a joke. The same people who were advocating for free speech in the wake of a politically motivated murder, are the same people censoring free speech that they do not agree with. The fact that they don't see the irony in this is one giant South Park episode. This gives creedence to the theories that Stephen Colbert was pulled off the air because of Trump. But this situation is definitely not debatable and is clearly a result of the Trump administration. Americans only thought right wing propaganda was present on Fox News until that Sinclair video dropped, and more people became aware of third-party local TV affiliate ownership. This situation definitely doesn't look good for Nexstar, and makes them look just as bad as Sinclair. Well, Stephen Colbert can now go as crazy as he wants to since he has nothing to lose....or maybe CBS pulls him off the air instantly. Jimmy Fallon can do an interesting thing here as the last man standing. Either close his mouth and continue his job where he minimally speaks on politics, or stand with the other two hosts. I wouldn't fault him for choosing either. ** Seth Meyers is also still on. He's pretty vocal. His fate remains to be seen.
  13. I've also wondered wether the ceremonies are too long and need to be amended from the reading of the names. Not because it's preempting daytime programming but because I question if it's a lot for the families every year. If they're not complaining then it's fine.
  14. I don't know if you mean to or not but it kind of sounds like you're excusing such behaviors. The last thing I say on this subject is...we're human beings. Rudeness slips out at times. Let's make a better effort to not have the threads devolve into constant condescension and insults.
  15. While observations of 9/11 aren't as big as years past outside of major anniversaries like the 20th, 9/11 is still very relevant. I think It's stuck around more than other historic tragedies like Pearl Harbor because it was caught on "modern" video from hundreds of angles and it played out on live tv. Moreover, much of the last 20 years and today have been shaped by 911 such as the Afghan and Iraq wars, and having airport security. It's pretty telling that no one really talks about the events like 2017 Las Vegas massacre much anymore but 9/11 which happened 24 years ago is still talked about on a daily basis. Unlike the onslaught of similar style mass shootings in the last 15 years, 9/11 was unique. We've never saw foreign terrorists fly passenger jets kamikaze style into major skyscrapers and military structures before. Lower Manhattan turned into nuclear winter was a unique site that will always have staying power.
  16. Agreed. He said nothing wrong. Why is MSNBC so quick to have standards of verbal censorship for people who have none? NOTE:, this is not an attack on conservative ideology or pro Democrat, this is just pointing out the current situation. I'd disagree. Let's remind ourselves that many followers on Kirk's side of the aisle were making fun of the Minnesota lawmakers who were assassinated moments after their killings. They also called the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband a homosexual conspiracy moments after it happened. Any accusations of inappropriate timing on their part would be the pot calling the kettle black.
  17. Hard to believe we're approaching a quarter century since 9/11. Today Show 9/11/2002 NBC was among the networks showing all day long coverage of the attacks 1st anniversary.
  18. EDIT: Can we all take a collective pause and assess the culture of this website. This is one of the only online discussion boards I've been on where several members regularly feel the need to be sarcastic, condescending and nasty in expressing disagreement and offering corrections. There has to be a way to articulate disagreement or correct others respectfully. Our super interest in news is esoteric enough, so this should be a forum to connect with people of similar interests. This shouldn't be a place the one-up each other with industry knowledge or belittle others.
  19. Yes, the networks need to be more fearless and stop worrying about Trump messing with their assets. The assertion however that networks, Fox & Sinclair aside, are biased in favor of Trump is not true. The majority of network news coverage of Trump is (rightfully) negative. There's not a day you don't turn on an evening newscast with red breaking news graphics, ominous theme music, a picture of Trump frowning, and some sort of protest going on. Even if NBC News doesn't go as blowhard as MSNBC you don't walk away with a positive impression of Trump after watching any NBC newscast. I don't think any mainstream news network is trying to paint both sides as equal. Those accusations came up when networks rightfully questioned the previous president's mental agility for office, and held democrats to account for pretending he was okay. Yes one side may be lesser of two evils but EVERY side is subject to media scrutiny.
  20. Agreed. IDC that they used wood and metal, it's just that it wasn't executed well.
  21. WFLD's faux wood panels and three cornered background behind the anchor desk seem to be the new trend in Fox O&O set design. It's on WTVT and WOFL. It doesn't look the best. FOX 35: FOX 13: WTTG continues to have the best set amid the O&Os, KTTV is not bad either. I wouldn't even put New York on this list, because all the TV stations in NYC typically fall below their O&O counterparts. LA stations get nice sets and upgrades though.
  22. TV station management is disgusting. If stations are getting rid of long-term anchors and paying talent less because they "no longer move the needle", why do stations care if ex talent goes to other local media? It can't be protection of intellectual property because digital writers and photojournalists typically aren't under contract. It's control and jealousy.
  23. These are nice and clean. This package would look great on CNN.
  24. Yep. The population influx is evident the rising real estate prices. Despite all it's flaws, it's Florida. Offer people a year round beach, consistent sunshine, large houses and a tropical aesthetic -- as opposed to the industrial Midwest ----- and they will come.
  25. With the very reasonable speculation that Fox 4's news department will be shut down, surprisingly they're still positing reporter openings...
