Mike really is destined to become the face of Channel 7 by 2027 or 2028.
-
This happens a lot one of the perks of working in New York local news station you can appear on national news. And if you’re really lucky you can land a spot like Al Roker and Matt Lauer did. Not so new anymore since MSNBC has been using it.
-
Ha! I wish. Yeah I think this is a business decision. Nothing else. But hey maybe someday FOX would buy WRAZ, there talking about baseball in Raleigh don’t wanna get to off topic, but they’ve been talking about it.
-
Interesting very interesting.
-
WSVN got competition alright. The only difference one station got an affiliation the other doesn’t. And when there breaking news WPLG can be first on the air whenever because they have free rein programming wise. Speaking of that I wonder if they take a cue of WJXT program schedule and use their syndies I know they still have Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune they’ll probably remain at their respective timeslots but I wonder what else they’ll acquire.
-
I think that’ll continue under the ABC affiliation. Except I remember some ABC stations when they air national reports would have their reporters say the station brand instead of ABC News. WABC used to do it a lot.
-
I don’t think this is gonna be a forever thing. I don’t think ABC is gonna like being on a digital subchannel. Again this would be understandable if Miami was a smaller market but I have a feeling something else is in the works for WSVN and Sunbeam. I just don’t see it lasting for long give this till 2028 and we’ll see what happens. Yeah FOX I don’t know if this will sit well with them. One scenario could be FOX ends up purchasing WPLG. And WSVN becomes a full time ABC affiliate in fact I’ll go further not just do they become a full timer but Sunbeam their owner also affiliates their Boston station WHDH with ABC. Meaning that Boston current affilate WCVB becomes independent. Most likely they buy WSFL that give WSVN a duopoly.
-
They don’t even air the networks cut ins, except for the prime time SOTU. Last time WSVN aired anything Fox related was during 9/11. Yes.
-
Keep in mind WSVN almost lost it FOX affiliation in 2017-18 when that failed Sinclair-Tribune was in progress of happening because Tribune had to spin of WSFL to FOX.
-
Wow. That’s crazy didn’t think I’d see this happening. I wonder how WSVN gonna program news on the new ABC affiliate. Miami will be the largest market without full time affiliate. If this happens here in Miami than other markets could face something like this in the future, large markets with no big 3 full time affiliate with them being sub channel with another station. Now in some small markets there a big 3 is on a subchannel but not in a market as large as Miami. This means this will happen to other ownership groups, will go through this. Essentially I could see this happening with stations group that are locally owned or under some investment firm.

That is so disorganized.

I don’t think they’ll be a talent opening so I’m not worried when Bill Ritter leaves in 3 years. Then we can talk about it. Sade isn’t the most senior anchor I like Mike too some degree, wild thought what if his wife joined the station and became a husband and wife team like they did in Kansas City. That would be nice!
-
I assume it be Mike and Sade though if it were Sade and Mike that isn’t bad either when Bill Ritter took over in 1999 it was Diana and Bill.
-
I’m kinda sad about him leaving. I know he isn’t gone and probably won’t retire for awhile it sad to see change happen.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News
GraphicsMan replied to JosiahCubed's topic in Network News
That’s gonna be hard to tell last time he was with NBC he was in the local level his only national exposure is with ABC (7 years) and now this stint here (4 years). That’s 12 years on national news he’s still still relatively new and young. -

So it’s oficial Tom Llamas takes over “Nightly News” as anchor and managing editor, he’ll also continue to do “Top Story” on streaming. So they making him the face of TV and streaming. https://www.nbcnews.com/media/tom-llamas-anchor-nbc-nightly-news-rcna194961 Me too I think he’s fine also. He might have to battle with CBS for second place because they are catching up. But he will maintain the status quo. -

What makes him bad, personally I think he isn’t himself sometimes. -

CBS could take NBC #2 spot. He isn’t familiar with viewers when Lester got the weekday gig he’d been doing weekend editions for years. Tom hasn’t. Looks like he’ll continue to do Top Story on streaming so there trying to make him the face of TV and streaming not a bad idea. -

Whoever replaces him won’t be able to fill his shoes, Lester is by far the most neutral reporter the network has had. Clearly whoever replaces him which will probably Tom Llamas will have a hard time getting to his level. -

Tom Llamas is probably the successor don’t know if he’ll overtake ABC but it’s a fair choice. Even David Muir congratulated Lester on him stepping down, so even he knows what he up against next a former ABC colleague. He’s okay, don’t think he’ll overtake Muir nobody is overtaking ABC. I think in fact he’ll be fighting with CBS more. -
I still can’t believe there moving. This is just extremely rare this never happens in New York the networks stay in the buildings forever because of how historic they are ABC is doing something never done before. I don’t have a photo but I’ve seen WABC building it’s gonna be sad to see it go.

Not really, the west coast flagships have been getting the best recently.

Ya know they had that logo since 2005, I do wish they change the red and white logo and leave “Eyewitness News” bare like its sister stations. As long as Byron Allen doesn’t get it lol.
