Sorry for the vent. I've tried warming up to Greg Dutra but, the way he presents himself and the weather rubs me the wrong way. The beard bothers me for one, and he sounds like a college frat boy and sounds fake and phony. I honestly don't think he is a good meteorologist and with how much time he has off and filling in on GMA, he really doesn't contribute to the team that much.

Their weather lineup isn’t exactly a group of world beaters…

I prefer Greg over Cheryl Scott.  She has never impressed me, despite her being there longer.

Channel 7 has a very "deep bench,," when it comes to meteorologists.  Aside from the main five (Larry, Cheryl, Tracy, Greg & Jaisol), they still have Phil Schwarz & Mark McGinnis as fill-in.

Also, who is the new weekday morning reporter they have?

That's Lissette Nunez, most recently of WNYW. She debuted sometime last week, but has appeared all over the schedule. Not sure if she's full-time, part-time, or even a holiday fill-in.

It seems like Chuck Goudie has left ABC7 as his bio has been scrubbed.

Maybe it’s a mistake?? It would be a real shame if he and WLS have parted ways after 40+ years without a proper farewell. According to an article in the Trib from last May, he had no intention of retiring anytime soon.

It sounds like Chuck exited in a pay dispute. Not necessarily any bad blood, but just couldn't meet in the middle.

Meanwhile, devastating news for Roz Varon, as her daughter died last week after a brief, undisclosed illness. Sara basically grew up on the morning show, and had gotten married last year. By my count, I don't think she was even 30. In the 9 months since Roz's retirement, she's gotten divorced, Sara and her husband moved across the country, and now this. Just terrible.

She says the station will mention it later in the week.

I came across this.

Wonder if he would jump over to WGN, WMAQ or WFLD?

I would rule out WMAQ. Haeberle and Randhawa have the investigative beat covered. WFLD is looking to produce more content and a weekly investigative program would be interesting.

And as crazy as it sounds… NewsNation. I know Zouves is the designated investigative reporter, but she also anchors. Having a full-time person with as much experience as Goudie could be invaluable. In theory, he also could work for WGN splitting his time between the two.

Agreed on WMAQ, and while I think WBBM would be a good fit, they can't afford him. NewsNation is an interesting proposition, because I don't see Nexstar spending the money just for WGN. WFLD is my betting favorite, right now.

What if he just wants to ride off into the sunset? The guy is 69… it’s check your watch to see how much longer he can do this time.

We're purely going off the implication that he might not be done. Retirement is entirely possible.

Entertaining the thought for a minute… is 32 still the cellar dweller with poor quality relative to the other stations in town? My knowledge of the other stations is pretty out of date.

Ratings-wise, WFLD is still in 4th or 5th, depending on the time of day, but their product is absolutely fine. There's not one bad station or tough watch in town. They've been more ambitious in terms of creating other sports & documentary content.

WBBM has a strong evening team, even if the morning news feels like a steady stream of temporary patches. WGN is obviously strongest in the mornings, with solid teams at all slots. WMAQ is always solid enough, if not too memorable. Again, a strong evening team, but not a lot of quality depth on their weather, sports, and female anchor benches. As for Chicago's #1 News, a non-sweeps period has made Goudie's absence less noticeable, so far, while their only other obvious talent hole is Cheryl Burton, but that's nothing new.

There is no station in town that can afford or would pay anything near his salary. Stations are slashing expensive anchors, not adding them. And no way he goes to some last place station for 180-200K.

That last part I’ll never understand… unless he’s terrible at finances he’s made of money… so he could take that kind of pay and be fine. It’s that kind of thing that makes the press releases about how much they love making a difference ring slightly more hollow. There are a lot of normal folks whose HOUSE is worth the same money he’d make in a year.

I know WFLD has struggled but I’d be entirely surprised if WBBM has made any gains. Seems like those two were in the race towards the bottom for much of the 2010s through today.

I’ve said this before… There are other metrics stations use to determine success aside from ratings. Streaming is a huge factor that will only grow in the years ahead. As long as the station is making $$$, it doesn’t matter if they’re #1 or #5.

WFLD sounds like a good fit because they’re looking to spend $$$ on content. Like you said, he has plenty of money and could work out a deal to do long-form weekly reports or something twice a month. Personally, I can’t see him doing daily reports, but you never know.

I think it will come down to how much a support staff would cost, etc… not necessarily his pay. His age makes zero difference as long as he wants to work and is in good health.

All-new parade graphics debuted today, adopting lower thirds that are reminiscent of the collage-like panels in the news opens. The old St. Patrick's look was nice, but the stock banners used across all parades have long needed an overhaul.
