Troy's out. Feder reports that this is Christiansen's final weekend at ABC 7 before he heads to FEMA. Freelance meteorlogist Mark McGinnis, formerly of WDJT in Milwaukee, will take over for Troy "in the short term."

I honestly think that this is his decision. Sure, maybe he saw the writing on the wall that he wasn't going to move up, but his background and previous endeavors make this new job seem like a really good fit. Best of luck to him.

I wonder if Schwarz and McGinnis filling his duties means that Phil's up at 5 on Sundays, or Feder doesn't realize that Phil never left Sunday mornings. :p

Well, damn. The name may be a little cheesy, but the build-up and hype might be legit. That said, it sounds like NBC 5 isn't taking this one lying down...though as a weather major, the hundred times more powerful statement seems rather fishy.

Either way, it goes live Monday at 4.

oh hey a fellow meteorology student.

Frankly, I don't see why an area like Chicago would need such powerful radars. A market like Oklahoma City or Tulsa would make far more sense to me, but that's just my opinion.

Keeping up with the Jones. That's about it.

Jerry Taft commented on the article. Shots fired...

"What NBC5's Frank Whitaker has failed to recognize is that in the end it's more about the pilot than the equipment. We finally proved that in Vietnam with the F4 vs. the Mig 21. Our Ch7 squadron is coming into form. With the addition of Scott and Mowry our pilots are poised for the future. Whitaker employed Scott at channel 5 and failed to recognize her talent. Shame on him..."

Forget calling out Whitaker's comments. Forget his strong defense to Cheryl. HE JUST CONFIRMED THE MOWRY HIRE.

I'm sure the bosses will love that.

All right!

WLS' weather equipment and talent vs. WMAQ's weather equipment vs. WGN's weather talent.

In other words, both WBBM and WFLD's weather equipment and talent sucks (with sole exception to WBBM's Baskerville).

Personally, I think Baskerville is overrated, and 2 of the others on that team should transition into the lead role. However, while I don't think they have the right person in the chief's role, WFLD's weather staff is pretty damn good these days...but that's about all they have going for them.

Does that lousy logo need 7's at both ends?

"The All New Doppler 7 Max 7" doesn't exactly roll off the tounge.. Get cute and add ABC to one of those 7's and its unreadable... Idiots.

Yeah, LD7Max (I'm abbreviating it) isn't as gimmicky as I expected, but the logo doesn't read well.

Also does 1 million watts really matter? I seem to recall reading that anything over 250,000 watts is over kill.

Also KNOE had an EEC S Band Dual Pol radar last year.

Edit: nevermind

Official: Larry Mowry starts on Monday, April 11th. He will simply fill Troy's vacancy (Sat. AM and Sun 5AM), as there's no mention of Phil dropping the post-6AM Sunday slot he's filled for 21 years. It's not directly mentioned, but the fact that he'll fill in on other broadcasts makes it seems like Larry will be full-time, unlike his Saturday morning predecessors...including himself.

Edit: Based on the station's official release, he will do both weekend mornings. Phil's finally going to get some sleep.

One would imagine the chief meteorologist on a station in the 5th largest market could do better than weekend mornings in Chicago...
