This has to be a first since leaving this post more than two months ago. Larry did the 4 and 5, but was in for Tracy this morning. A new ticker rips off NBC's Look N, though includes weather info, in addition to web/social media plugs. The bug is horizontal like WABC (with poorly sized and alligned text), and everything is 16:9 ready. All new elements fade off to the right, making the updated look is much lighter, even with the ticker. All opens and full screens are the same. Without it, I'm kind of in love with the minimalism of the update, as seen in the solo shot of Linda Yu. Doesn't make it right, but it probably could've been worse. There were subtle signs that a change was coming, and I'm just thrilled they didn't get anything like WABC. 24994J 5276 Posted October 21, 2016 Author Share Posted October 21, 2016 It's totally counterintuitive, but I think the 2-tiered ticker actually works and is more effective than its predecessor. Removing the weather info from the main leaves just news and sports, and makes it flow better. I also never liked how little of the space actually showed info in the departed ticker, with the headline tab taking up the left quarter of the screen and the whole thing ending off the right third of the screen. There's more bulk to it now, but it uses the space fairly well without being too overbearing. Also, I noticed last night that the blue within the circle 7 is now slightly transparent. Kind of an odd detail, considering it will only be noticed like morons like me... His bio is no longer on the station's website, and his station Instagram account has been deactivated. He wasn't on the anchor desk this weekend, but I don't recall if he was mentioned as being off. There is an opening for a general assignment reporting position online, but it's been up for almost 2 months. We'll see if anyone has a scoop tomorrow. Liz Nagy, (and last resorts) Terrell and Tanja round out the back-ups to ensure there's no solo shows. Yeah..seems like it's a safe bet to assume he's gone. I wonder what happened? Kevin Roy goes AWOL and is subsequently fired in 2010 and then his replacement/successor (Ben Bradley) suddenly disappears without a trace. Greater anchoring and/or investigative opportunities weren't available to him at ABC 7, so he decided against an extension. Feder speculates that NBC 5 and WGN could be destinations, but not until after the new year. WMAQ has enough people (probably too many) on the investigative beat and I highly doubt that 4P spot will get filled by anyone anytime soon (if ever). Sure enough, here's the first promo, with the hashtag #WeLoveYU. Is that tagline a little silly and predictable, yes, but it fits. Appearing in several old clips in the spot, you have to think that Joel will come back, and I just noticed the other day on social media that Magers shaved the beard, so I guess there's a chance that he might pop in.
