Looks like the Scripps-cast technique will be the future of WKEF-WRGT in Dayton, as 14 employees are laid off.

This could be the future for other marginal markets where Sinclair is just "scraping by"....if it hasn't been totally decimated yet.

I suppose a Scripps-cast is better than being outright replaced with the National News Desk.

Late to the party, I noticed ARC Morning Shows popping up across Sinclair. It means "Authentic, Relevant and Community". From what I saw out of WHAM and WPEC, they're very CW/Fox-type morning shows. I like this as opposed to straight news in the morning.

Not a bad idea, could have used a better branding title though.

Sounds similar to how Tegna tried to roll out its Wake Up brand for the morning shows on many of its stations.

You're right about the name; it seems like it undersells the programming and content.

The National News Desk is going primetime on their CW affiliates on Election Night it looks like, in order to pre-empt the network's own NewsNation simulcast (or push it off to air to nobody on Charge/Comet subs).

This is a Sinclair station, not a Nexstar one, so it was expected.

I"m still surprised that Sinclair agreed on an affiliation agreement with CW post-Nexstar to begin with.
It's things like this that may put a future agreement into question.

At least Sinclair has grown to the size (and networks hold their ground enough) to where we don't have the mass pre-emptions on a major network (like ABC) anymore.  Like the Nightline pre-emptions of 2003 and 2004 and the whole Stolen Honor situation.

Yeah, but I'd like to know if stuff like this was factored into their current affiliation agreement, and that they can still opt out of CW programming out of spite. You don't really see this with many of the Big Four stations and it would be get the attention/letter from affiliate relations.

It is my understanding that FCC rules preserve the rights of affiliates to pre-empt network programming as necessary (it was only a few years ago when most of the NBC affiliate body opted out of airing a 30 Rock upfront special that included promotions for Peacock).

Sinclair would be foolish to pull this with any of the other major networks they are affiliated with, but Nexstar's CW is still going to be a punching bag, especially for a rival broadcaster like Sinclair with similar (ulterior) motives...

  • Thanks 2

If Sinclair still had The CW in West Michigan, they would've put The National Desk on election night that is what they're going to do for ARC WMI maybe put a break at 10PM for local news and then back with election night coverage on ARC until 12AM.

NTV (KHGI & KFXL) evening shows went anchorless today. The KFXL 9 PM show that is on is just story to story now, and only the weather is live. The show intro no longer says it is live from their studios and removed their legal IDs at the bottom as well. This comes after Dave Griek was let go 2 weeks ago after 15 years, and sounds like many others have been as well. More changes sound like they are coming.

Compared to what sister and neighbor KPTM was doing at the end of its news run it with KMPH running things, this almost seems like a worse solution than that outsourcing.

Interestingly enough, all these cuts come after large investments in a set that now doesn't get used for these shows...

I hear that NTV's evening newscasts are going anchorless, following the Scrippscast style.

Update to KHGI/KFXL. On the daily live today that they do at the end of the noon show on Facebook, they talk about it being the last day for some. They've confirmed there will be no longer someone at the anchor desk during the noon show. Their goal is to put more people in the field to create more content. All shows are pretaped, and only weather will be live (but on a timer with nobody to keep them on air if they accidentlally run over time alloted).

KHQA's news has been coming out of Champaign, Illinois for several years now (WICD"s former facility).  I wonder if that's getting shut down and all news will come out of the WICS facility in Springfield for WICS/WICD and Fox Illinois?  I believe they did a Fox newscast out of there for that market along with the newscasts for KHQA.

But yay, another company switching to the Scrippscast model.  Shouldn't they be getting ready for News Central 3.0 and hiring a former Trump operative to sell Project 25 to the masses now that their lord and savior is now the King of America?

KTVO will take over KHQA’s news.

Another new ARC market... ARC El Paso replaces KDBC's Noon and 10pm traditional-styled newscasts.

Interesting, I thought the ARC concept was just a morning show.

I found it on Facebook... look what showed up: a Boycott NTV/Sinclair Facebook group as the station now goes anchorless in the evenings, following Scripps' lead and also following WKEF's move.

So Sinclair is trying to be edgy like Tegna and cheap like Scripps as well?

Same garbage just wrapped up in a new package trying to chase a demographic that won't watch it.

To be fair to Tegna, they've really backed off of the edginess compared to when they first came into existence.

Sinclair's just late to the party though.  Their only idea of theirs they didn't steal from another broadcaster is the whole crippling propaganda thing.

Which will probably be no problem to KOLN-KGIN since their the news leader in Nebraska, but hey... KLKN exists.

That's and the changes at KQHA-KTVO is probably benefitting Gray too much. It MUST be stopped.

I really wonder how long that FB page will update in a few months time as I feel like those types of pages fizzle after a while in my opinion. I checked it out so far it only has 2K members. Sinclair & NTV don't care what those on that page think of them.

I'll be curious to see if this benefits KLKN at all. As it is, there were technically two ABC affiliates in the same market and KLKN/NTV ended up competing with each other.
