bammy9 26
If I were WISH, I'd add a newscast in the 4pm and 7pm hours. But otherwise, it's a WJXT-ish schedule Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13933-wish-adopts-news-heavy-format/#findComment-115878 Share on other sites
tvjay 6
Funny thing is, they will still produce less news then we do at the CBS and FOX SSA I work for. detroiter313 180
So the 10pm news on MyNetworkTV-affiliate WNDY is moving to WISH-TV, will WNDY find a news partner to produce the 7-9am and 10pm news? TVNewsLover 779
So the 10pm news on MyNetworkTV-affiliate WNDY is moving to WISH-TV, will WNDY find a news partner to produce the 7-9am and 10pm news? No. They are owned by the same company. Why would they partner up with someone else? If Fox continues to play hardball with Tribune in Seattle, perhaps WISH can snap up the Fox affiliation in Indy when it expires. It would be a step up for Fox too in my opinion. The entire issue with Fox and Tribune has an important variable: NFC football. As to the news schedule, clearly these people are reading the Phil Alvidrez playbook and WJXT's sequel to it. As they should be, because that playbook kept KTVK and WJXT relevant in their markets. TVNewsLover 779
Won't happen. The entire issue with Fox and Tribune has an important variable: NFC football. I know that. The point I was trying to make is the Seattle situation outcome might leave things sour between Fox and Tribune in general leaving WISH to jump in and steal the Fox affiliation from Tribune owned Fox affiliate WXIN. In no way was I trying to imply Fox wants to own a station in Indy. But they would be happy with an upgrade in affiliate. They would go from a robust signal at 1000 kw on Channel 45 to a buggy signal with 22.8 kw on Channel 9. Lots of people in Indy complain about the signals of WISH and WTHR, but WTHR worked hard to get a power increase in order to attack some of those problems. WISH was content with with what they have. Remember, 10% to 25% still watch OTA. In a market like Indianapolis that means anywhere from 109,000 households to 273,000 households, equivalent to markets between the size of Billings, MT (168) all the way up to Tallahasee, FL (106). That's worth making sure you have a good signal, in my opinion. Breaking News 829
I am surprised they didn't add a 4:00 news as well. Me too! I thought they would start early evening news from 4pm-7pm local news block. I think it good they invest in local news, lifestyle shows and a heavy news cycle. I know they have that Indy Style show, but maybe create a local afternoon show. Once the deal is sign with Lin TV and Media General the company ie. will have two established news operations at WISH TV and KRON both being independent stations. Maybe they will have a business model in place. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13933-wish-adopts-news-heavy-format/#findComment-115962 Share on other sites

KCAL has had the primetime block of news since 1989, plus a pretty news-heavy schedule in the afternoons (12-1pm, 2-3:30pm, 4-5pm). WTMJ has 4 hours straight of news from 3pm to 7pm, only break is for NBC Nightly News. T.L. Hughes 890
Interesting that nothing was said about any news expansions on weekends, but having reviewed WISH and WNDY's schedules for some Wikipedia edits I made earlier in the summer, WISH doesn't need to add much beyond a 10 p.m. newscast (they could also move the "Sports Locker" to bookend the 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts, similar to how WXIN schedules its Sunday sports show now). IMSMC, they have WNDY air "CBS This Morning Saturday," "Face the Nation" and the weekend editions of the "CBS Evening News", running newscasts in the former and latter's network timeslots. That'll stay the same when CBS moves. I think this got glossed over, but LIN will have to do some schedule shuffling for WNDY since it's very likely losing two newscasts to WISH on top of losing the CBS shows WISH declines. Sitcoms would be an obvious choice for the 10 p.m. slot (maybe some dramas on weekends in the slot), but the to-be-vacant weekend and weekday morning slots will probably be filled with infomercials or other time-brokered shows or possibly E/I content. If I could play king for a day, I would stick all the CBS shows on WNDY (except when the Colts play) just to break viewers of the habit of watching CBS. Three months of breaking the habit of watching CSI or Hawaii Five O should be enough to stick it to WTTV, at least for a while.
