It is less than 2 blocks from the scene, and is priced $40-50 cheaper per night (at minimum) than any other lodging in the vicinity. Let's face it, if you're sending a reporter, you're not going to be shelling out $80+ per night when there's a serviceable $30 option. Yes, the phrase "breaking news" is synonymous to the phrase "special report." KOVR had reporters from CBS this morning and CBS Evening news. KTXL had Shepard Smith From Fox News but also had to cut to Local coverage. KMAX had Local coverage from KOVR and Good Day by 4AM. But It's close to everything and it's an "easy in easy out place" as far as parking and cabs go. I guarantee you there are at least 5 TV crews from socal staying there right now. Easy sattruck parking too! I haven't been to Vegas in about 3 years but the last time I was there, i'd say 50% of the casinos needed remodeling. The only decent/clean ones were Aria, Bellagio and Caesar's Palace. Everything else was dirty and worn out. Given that there's surge pricing on the weekends, it's no surprise that some of the outlier hotels have cheap rates during the week. Which like you said, made it easy for the So Cal news stations to send their own [multiple] crews. The fact that KNSD sent 3 reporters from the NBC side and 1 Telemundo reporter is surprising. But for every sad lame joke it tell, I try to balance it out with some fun or useful morsel of something. What bugs me is that he uses multiple ID's and only complains about people here.
