Starting Monday, September 9th, WFXT is going all out for local news once again which I'm not so sure will work considering the amount of people who continue to leave the station. Regardless, WFXT is doing it.

They're cutting the 4:30am half-hour of their morning news so it can then air from 5:00-11:00 a.m. (leaving WCVB all alone at 4:30am), plus all brand new: two hours of midday news from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

They're also bringing back their hour-long 4:00 p.m. news after a years-long hiatus, returning the local news block to three hours. Finally, its all-night news starting with their usual 10:00, 10:30, and 11:00 news, then National News Tonight at 11:35, then Gray's Investigate TV+ (repeat from 1:00pm) just after midnight, and then... repeats of their 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. news from 12:35 a.m. until the morning news begins anew at 5:00 a.m.

No, this is not a joke or a made-up schedule. This is according to TVPassport and partially confirmed by Zap2it as of this post.

WFXT is really gonna go with this.

Umm... something is defintely going on at WFTV Orlando because George Waldenberger, their longtime weekend meteorologist, is leaving as well.

It mentions Seattle so it looks like he’s moving within Cox to KIRO. Not uncommon. Many WFTV alums moved to Cox flagship WSB in the past like Zach Klein and Jorge Estevez.

WZZM names Samantha Jacques as new Chief Meteorologist -- she will take over when current CM George Lessens retires in November.  This will now make 2 female CM's in the Grand Rapids market.  Jacques at WZZM and Ellen Bacca at WOOD.

By the way, she's keeping the Chief Met Morning trend going. She's staying on their morning and noon news, which means that Meteorologist Blake Hansen will take over their 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, and 11:00 p.m. news come late November (more likely after Thanksgiving) once George retires.

A better explanation can be found here...

Veteran WANF reporter Rebekah Schramm has announced she is leaving the industry after 23 years at WANF and 7 more in the industry as a whole.

For most of this news operation's history, throughout the numerous rebrands, she was one of the only constants.

Personally, she really helped us when we first launched "Magnet Newsroom", gave us some great advice and I'm truly going to miss seeing her in the mornings.

Are there any stations that have their Chief Met do primarily weekends?

I highly doubt it, unless it's special circumstances... Take ABC 33/40's James Spann.. Seems like he lives there 24/7, especially during the spring months..

While on the topic of Atlanta, WXIA will welcome Danielle Moss from sister station WATN in Memphis as Weekend Met... Strangely enough, she is currently CM at WATN and didn't hold the title a full year.. Kind of a waste of a promotion IMO...

Rebekka Schramm was with WANF during the Clear News era, then the back-and-forth CBS Atlanta/CBS 46 eras, and Atlanta News First.  Not sure whether she may show up at a competing station later on or if she's leaving the news business entirely to try something new.  Hopefully Schramm remains in Atlanta.

I wrote in my original post she leaving the industry, the AJC is reporting she will now go to locally based Wellstar Healthcare.

WKYC legend Jim Donovan is calling it a career at the end of June.

Not only in Cleveland, people are heading for the exits all across the country.  It seems like this is a turning point in TV.

Update...

Jim Donovan is now stepping down from his  longtime role as the radio voice from the Cleveland Browns as well.

This isn’t good. And it is truly saddening. I was stationed near Dayton, Ohio for 6 NFL seasons and if I was in my car during the 1pm games I would listen to Browns games with Jim Donovan on WHIO radio over the Bengals broadcasts on WTUE because I loved Jim’s enthusiasm even if the Browns were a loser most of the seasons between 2014-2019. Prayers for him and his family.

I suspect a lot of it is going to be recorded like the wheel rundowns at many cable news operations -- segments will be recorded on the fly and plugged in where needed. I don't think they're going to have a live presence all day unless events warrant.

FXT just hired a new news director, Scott Isaacs, who came from WJAR in Providence but is a former EP at WCVB (and the husband of former FXT/HDH and now current CVB reporter Sharman Sacchetti. He knows the market well, I suspect if anyone can make it work, it would be someone like him.

Hard to believe CVB has the only 4:30am news in the market, but yes, some went by the wayside "temporarily" around COVID and just never came back. WBZ just canceled their 4:30am half hour plus the 9am hour.

And like Hollie Strano finally getting fired for her DUI, WMBF finally terminated sports director Dave Ackert.

Why did it take so long for the stations to terminate these employees?

Today--September 3rd (yesterday for you East Coasters) marked the 30th anniversary of the first of the massive network affiliation switches thanks to Fox acquiring NFL broadcast rights.

Cleveland was the first market make to the switch, where longtime CBS affiliate WJW made the switch to Fox, while WOIO took on CBS after nearly eight years with Fox.  Nine days later, Kansas City conducted its own network switching, with WDAF going from NBC to Fox, and KSHB doing the reverse.
