It means that he and new KTTV chief meteorologist Adam Krueger are basically switching places with each other, as just before he came to Los Angeles, Krueger was formerly the chief metereologist at KIAH in Houston.

Adam gets promoted to a larger market whereas Jonathan gets demoted to a smaller market.

True.  I may be wrong, but I believe that he was only a freelancer at KTTV so heading to a top 10 media market in Houston where he can now be full time is not too shabby in my opinion.

It could also be possible that they had no other open positions for him at the station, if I were to guess.

Aside from GDLA+, KTTV updated its time/temp ticker today for the rest of the newscasts to be more in line with other FOX O&O stations. This also means temperatures for other SoCal cities will no longer be shown in the ticker.

I noticed that this past Tuesday night on the 10:00 PM newscast. I remember those other temperatures were actually reported from various airports in the viewing area, like LAX, Burbank, John Wayne (Santa Ana), and Ontario.

It’s less distracting and intrusive the way it is now. I also find it cool that they have AM and PM next to the time, like KCBS/KCAL and KTLA (just A/P without the M) do.

EDIT 12/22/24: The bug is back to the time and airport temperatures. Weird.

I remember when the west coast stations only showed time and temp in the morning shows only. It was the way for many west coast stations even after the early 00s the East coast stations had given up already on doing that by then. But stations on the west coast kept doing as far as 2012.

For the first time since the mid 1990s, KTTV is hosting local Rose Parade coverage. KTTV main anchors Christine Devine and Elex Michaelson will lead Fox11s coverage. It will be interesting to see how Fox11 differentiates themselves from perrenial parade coverage leader KTLA.

I don't think that Ktla would not renew the rights to the rose parade, especially when they air it all day every previous year that they have aired the parade.

Kttv is just airing the parade this year since the network doss not have national sports programming to provide to local stations this year.

If kttv was planning to go back to airing the parade every year, in those years when kttv  needs to air national sports programming in the past, they could have aired the parade on kcop, which they are planning to air reruns of the parade on this year.

They could have renewed the rights to air the parade again and do this in the future if there are any conflicts in programming.

Did you read my post above? I said that both KTTV AND KTLA are providing coverage this year.

I'm just stating that ktla won't give up the rights to the parade since it has been a major part of the station for years.  Kttv may go back to not airing the parade next year depending on what the network tells them to do.

I know that both stations are covering the parade this year.

A few months ago, I mentioned that they might consider adding more news, if not on kttv, then kcop.  This is the new direction that local stations are taking.  If people are tired of watching reruns of old shows or whatever is on TV now,  news & sports are the alternatives.  Since sports are expensive,  local news is the only choice that the programmers and stations have to offer.
