The Gates is a go. The newest soap has been officially ordered by CBS, and will premiere in January.

This may be an interesting business story to see how it plays out. The Talk was kind of little more than wallpaper by the time the axe fell. But can a ground-up drama be enough of a profit source for an organization that isn't exactly rolling in dough? Does having those production partners change the financial calculus? How long or short of a leash does the show get to get a foothold?

I think as long as it makes money CBS will be happy.

The Gates was developed from the joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP. The series will be produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP venture in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble.

Sounds like they may have a solid financial footing.  The stars will likely not be commanding the same amount of money as “The Talk”. Nor the more establish soaps.

"The Gates" rolled off the tongue more.

Excited to see Tamara Tunie! She is well experienced with daytime as she was Jessica on As The World Turns. During part of that run she pulled double duty as the medical examiner on Law & Order SVU.

Interesting producer names: Robert Guza. While he is great at disaster and adventure plotting he helped purge General Hospital of several veteran cast members and helped make it a show about the mob.

Victoria Rowell, ex-Drcuilla Y&R,  would be a great addition but likely not due to her falling out with CBS.

I"m surprised CBS didn't try and do this 20 years ago, when they could have seen the writing on the wall for Guiding Light and As The World TurnsPassions was still on the air as the newest of the daytime serials and would last until right before CBS pulled the plug on the other shows.

Sort of ironic that the filler show (The Talk) is being replaced by a soap opera.

Doesn't CBS still own Channel 5 in the UK and Network 10 in Australia? If I was running CBS, I might have tried importing series from those networks to fill the daytime lineup rather than commissioning a new soap that's probably going to fail.

The Talk will not get to reruns after its 12/16 finale. The Price is Right will in its former timeslot starting the following Monday (12/19) untilThe Gates debuts on 2/24.

Not surprised as the hot topics would've been outdated and I think The Price Is Right is good to air in that timeslot. I didn't even know that Vanna White was a Contestant on The Price Is Right in 1980 I didn't watch it when I saw the video on YouTube.

TPIR was also the bridge between the end of Guiding Light and the debut of Brady LMAD in 2009 and the end of As the World Turns and debut of The Talk in 2010.

Seems like it’s the default choice for filler on CBS Daytime.

During the post ATWT gap I also remember Young and the Restless reruns being utilized.
