I'm currently in the still-current-but-soon-to-be-old studio of Live with Kelly & Mark, and it was mentioned during today's interviews with their guests (featured here is Nathan Fillion) that this is one of the very last episodes in this studio and on W 67th Street in UWS before the move to 7 Hudson Square. They didn't say exactly when it will happen, but it is more than likely after this month.

I'm still in the Live audience for a taped show to air on the 31st. During the taping, Kelly and Mark reveal that the next day's taping (April 1) will be the very last in the studio on W 67fh Street/UWS. So from that, it's very clear the move is for April, May or later.

I guess Im in the minority. I hate everything about ABC News. Its like they are broadcasting from a darkened cave. I hate the lighting, when there is some its harsh and the talent is shadowy and the graphics are dark so it feels sinister. The sound is always echo-ey and the use of the metal on the set, such as around the screens and desk, always has hotspots. Everything is badly designed. I feel since they were moving to a new space they could have experimented. They didnt even get new graphics but recreated their old ones.  But since audiences for network news is drying up...this exemplifies they are truly scare of losing more of their audience. I was hoping we would see something different. But to to rebuild  the same thing. Yawn. I was suprised ABC News Live got new graphics. I like the channel, but sometimes I find the streaming channels dont always carry live events. NBC News Now is a big culprit. ABC is OK. CBS News is a bit hit or miss.  I have to say Im not impressed with any of the big 3 network news sets. NBC gave up and retreated to the Today set and CBS is just screens and ABC went deeper into their news cave.

I'm really going to miss that opening zoom-out that just shows how absurdly tiny that studio is for a network-quality live show, even after the studio-sharing with EWN ended. It's always night and day to see their yearly Dolby show or other on-location weeks such as the recent Palm Springs week where they can spread out.

I'm hoping at least that the GMA set is less clashy with all that metal and those goofy frosted panels and so much blue. I'm hopeful everything with the lighting and display on the new set is temporary and a new network-wide scheme is introduced with GMA's move, which I can still see happen. The big problem with ABC News is that set is heavily-used so they may have to keep it darker to hide marks and not expose too much to an average viewer about its overuse.

Same.  In fact, I'm gonna miss the studio itself too as it's been in use throughout it's entire local run and national run up until this point; and even though I went in only three times, it still is so legendary that I get goosebumps every time I enter. And despite its size compared to the last , it is my set of them all.

Gotta love a show called "Live" being taped two weeks in advance.

No wonder you need a microscope to see Live! On their logo.

Now that you mentioned it, it makes sense

when you see the logos after Regis retired.

The newer the host, the smaller the "Live".

  • 3 weeks later...

It is Monday, April 7, 2025. And yes, it's time.

Live with Kelly & Mark officially debuted (from the Great Room on 10th floor) at its new home of 7H².

Reminds me a lot of the studio of the first season of Anderson Cooper's talk show. (Coincidentally and ironically, he was Live's final guest at the old UWS studio.)

Apparently this spot is for this week only - full studio in a week. https://people.com/find-out-where-kelly-ripa-and-mark-consuelos-will-film-live-before-they-premiere-new-set-11708730

To clarify, I didn't say outright this setup would be full-time, but thanks for bringing this to my attention.

What was the point in moving before the studio was ready? The last few weeks of “Live” production has been odd.

There was probably a vacate date of March 31 so it was something they literally could not wait for, and Disney wants to showcase their new building and spaces in a unique way. No harm, no foul here.

That article indicates it is a Disney PR approach to showing off their new NYC digs.  Disney is the king of self promotion.

Call me a skeptic, but unless Bob Iger's ego is as fragile as Trump's, I don't buy "we wanted to show off the 10th floor of our new corporate building" that none of their viewers care about.  Sounds like a post-hoc justification for unforeseen circumstances.

Given the amount of money that went into making 7 Hudson a reality, I’m not surprised they would take whatever opportunity to ‘showcase’ it whenever possible. Also, the official name of 7 Hudson is the ‘Robert A. Iger Building’, so there’s that….

Well sure, but you showcase the brand new studios you just built.  Not a random office building atrium.

Good Lord, this whole discussion is not worth the webpage it's printed on. There's no grand conspiracy here.

You have a brand new building, you show it off. Corporate paid for it, so why not? Heck, The View did a drone fly-through of the building on day 1, showing everything, including this atrium space. Beyond that, the end of March "eviction" for Live is the likely case, but Lord knows delays happen. I'm sure their plan was to be in the studio for the start of this month, but they couldn't, so they came up with a creative, reasonably attractive stopgap measure. Credit to the staff for making this work.

I doubt there's anything more to it than that.

Not sure what to make of your unnecessary hyperbole, nor did anyone suggest a "grand conspiracy."  I simply pointed out that while Disney PR told People Magazine that this was intentional, I suspected it wasn't.  You essentially just restated what I already said -- there was likely a delay necessitating it. That's all.

April 14, 2025-- Let's do it again. One last time.

Live with Kelly & Mark finally debuted its new set at 7H². And it's beautiful. Similar to the last set but very vibrant and refreshing.
