It's a smart move- and long overdue, but is taking parts of the 18th-place station and putting them on the 24th-place station really going to help WBBM-FM? I get it's a heritage station, but some times you have to put things out of their misery and start fresh. https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb005

I get it's a heritage station, but some times you have to put things out of their misery and start fresh. It's not like there's any easier solution. WBBM-FM is in the same situation as the former 97.1 in Los Angeles with iHeart's CHR beating out Audacy's. The only difference is that Chicago at least has room for Audacy to simulcast it's AM sports station. In LA, KIIS is the dominant and only pop station since KNX took over 97.1. Broadcasting is in a precarious place, what once worked now doesn't work as much anymore. It also doesn't help that analog AM is noisy and indecipherable thanks to all that digital interference. Regardless of ratings, sometimes you have to make a risky business move to protect your investments.
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 What was 88.1 KDHX in St. Louis is now KLJT 88.1 Worship One. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/315951/worship-one-to-launch-in-st-louis/ However, the spirit of KDHX will soon, once again, live on with the February 1st launch of Community Radio St. Louis (CRSTL). https://www.facebook.com/LOVEofCRSTL/posts/pfbid0y6R22Jt2WPCCMdjVKh3oUCzpH1nDMm1N7NtRXnwtz9ssp3hkbSCLA1GhGa6btHPRl
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 iHeart Sports D.C. is now off the air from 1190 WTSD though it does continue on 101.1 WWDC-HD2. iHeart declined its option to purchase the station and as a result, WTSD has gone silent due to financial difficulties. https://dcrtv.com/1190-am-goes-dark/
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 WBMX is coming back home to where it belongs all along. 1974-1988 = 102.7 WBMX Chicago 1991-2009 = 98.5 WBMX Boston (then moved to launch 98.5 WBZ-FM - 98.5 The Sports Hub) 2009-2017 = 104.1 WBMX Boston (replaced the legendary 104.1 WBCN) 2017-2026 = 104.3 WBMX Chicago Starting February 2nd, its coming back home to 104.1 in Boston to replace WWBX. With WSCR-FM coming on 104.3, WBMX is returning to the place that has STILL spent more time in than in Chicago. IMO, it was meant to be. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/335099/wbmx-returning-to-boston/ 1
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Audacy is getting out of Providence. 103.7 WVEI-FM, the only station they owned in the market, and a simulcast of 93.7 WEEI Lawrence/Boston, is being acquired by Ocean State Media, the parent company of The Public's Radio and Rhode Island PBS. This will allow OSM to have a full-power signal across all of Rhode Island and hopefully use just one signal instead of the five it currently has (89.3 WNPN, 89.5 WNPW, 90.7 WNPH, 102.7 WNPE, and 1290 WPVD/102.9 W275DA). https://radioinsight.com/headlines/335544/ocean-state-media-acquires-103-7-wvei-providence-from-audacy/

Encore 323 79 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) In Phoenix, it was Chris Merrill’s last day with KTAR News 92.3 FM and he says that he took a bigger opportunity and I’m assuming that it might be at KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles because he already has a show on that station on Sunday evenings and they are making changes to their weeknight 7-10pm lineup. This also means that the short lived “Chris and Joe Show” ended it’s course in the 2-4pm MT slot. Merill’s now former co-host will now be in the 6pm slot as listed below. As a result of this, KTAR will be making some changes to it’s weekday lineup starting on Monday 2/9. • 5 to 8:15 a.m. — Arizona’s Morning News (Anchored by Jim Sharpe and LaDona Harvey, no changes) • 8:15 a.m. to Noon — The Mike Broomhead Show (no changes) • Noon to 2 p.m. — The Ramsey Show (no changes) • 2 to 6 p.m. — Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos • 6 to 7 p.m. — Arizona’s Evening News (Anchored by Becky Lynn and Joe Huizenga) It really had to take 6 or so years for KTAR/Bonneville to bring back the Evening News in a radio market that is now on the fringe of Top 10 status, despite the recent stunt in the population growth rate. Better late than never, especially in a midterm election year. Edited February 7 by Encore 323
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 30 years ago today. The rebirthed WKTU (the original was on 92.3 FM in the 70s and 80s) changed the course of radio forever. Indeed Chris Merill is going to KFI, but not in the evenings, he'll do middays starting next Tuesday (Monday's Presidents Day) from Noon-3PM with Michael Monks which will trim an hour off of Gary & Shannon & push John Kobylt back a couple of hours to 3-6. Tim Conway Jr. will fill the fmr Mo Kelly slot from 6-10. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/339404/kfi-sets-lineup-revamp-with-addition-of-monks-merrill-in-middays/ Edited February 11 by NYAZSporty
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 The longtime owner of 105.3 WYKS (KISS 105.3; Top 40 CHR) and 1390 WAJD/98.9 W255CV (98.9 Jamz; R&B) in Gainesville (my former home market) has died. Douglas J. Gillen was the owner of Gillen Broadcasting Corporation, a small mom and pop company, and ran it for nearly 40 years. What happens to the two stations right now is unclear. And many of them have specifically gone with CBS Radio News to differentiate themselves from Fox News Radio and how their newscasts mainly cue up talk show talking points. I've listened to those newscasts since 1989 and losing their general and neutral tone is going to be severely missed. I get the feeling the staff wanted none of Bari's influence on that programming and she took it personally and killed the division. I do know though it had been flagging (the sponsor tag at the start lately has been a red flag).
TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 WKRP is coming to Cincinnati... for real this time. 48 years after the hit TV show debuted on CBS, the North Carolina low power radio station that used the callsign is giving it up and while we don't know where it will end up on the dial in town... WKRP in Cincinnati will actually soon become a real thing. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2026/04/03/wkrp-call-letters-are-coming-to-cincinnati-radio-report/89452633007/ 1
Georgie56 3661 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Audacy is flipping the KNX 1070 simulcast on 97.1 to sports as 97.1 The Fan.

Audacy hasn't done this yet, mainly because they already have sports and news on the FM dial in other markets (Philly, NYC, Chicago, etc.) but they're stuck in LA with no good options left.

FiveNews 481 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 I live in the LA DMA. This was a shocker. KNX News on 97.1 FM has been successful even though they continue on legacy frequency 1070 AM. LA has two sports stations on AM....ESPNLA 710 and AM Sports 570. It will be interesting how the new station will differentiate itself. Unfortunately, that doesn't really matter. All that matters is advertising dollars.

Three, if you count KLAA 830 out of Anaheim, broadcast home of the Angels, although most of the sports talk stuff is syndicated. 1

GodfreyGR 812 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 After 33 years at KDWB here in Minnesota, Dave Ryan is hanging up the headphones. Always had to listen on a portable radio in the back seat when we would take a trip to the cities as a kid. The Hiram Calls, parody songs, and everything else he came up with over the years were awesome! Curious to what the "Ambassador" role will be... I always thought him teaming up with former co-host Lee Valsvik down the hall at KOOL108 would have been awesome (Since KOOL is now playing the same music Dave and Lee were playing together when it was new on KDWB)! Either way, Happy Retirement Dave! https://radioinsight.com/headlines/352123/dave-ryan-to-retire-from-kdwb-mornings/
