The WGN Morning News team are full of professionals, right? Yes, but also no. At least Dan tried to be when it comes to sports... but failed miserably on Tuesday. So yesterday, he got "fired" from the segment and they found a replacement...

Love how gung-ho Crossing Broad is in this article, not wanting to recognize KYW's news as it is, sticking to Eyewitness News, much like the person who started this thread, not changing the title. Heck, it sure sounds better than generic CBS News Philadelphia or whatever other O&O city it is, outside of the ones using call letters to ID their news.

Not sure if this is in any way related, but Don Bell was in for Ukee at 5, 6, 8, and 11, even though Siafa was available, and even reported from the newsroom at 11

Why? Because they keep hiring SAM.

Hear me out. KVVU no longer has one sports-related channel... now they have TWO. One is the Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network, but now they've recently launched 5DRVtv (5 Drive TV). Outside of Local News LIVE from 4-6 am, 11 am-12 pm, and 4-5 pm (7-9 am, 2-3 pm, and 7-8 pm ET; which seem to be the main newscast timeslots for that streaming network), the schedule is devoted to all things cars and motorsports with programs such as Moto America, Race Central TV, Music City Trucks, Detroit Muscle, PowerNation Builds, etc. Some of these programs are also seen on SSSEN, but that's more aimed towards general sports, whereas 5DRVtv (KVVU-DT 5.4 by the way, which replaced Dabl) is focused on cars and motorsports. This may be the first such local digital subchannel I've heard of. EDIT: Another thing... Despite Gray not having a Telemundo presence in Las Vegas (because you have O&O KBLR Channel 39), KVVU went ahead and launched Spanish-language news and weather content anyway with Vegas Hoy. https://www.vegashoy.tv/

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
FiveNews replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
It's a shame they gutted that studio. It was still serviceable and could still run circles around other sets in the market. I wish it could have remained somewhere else on the Radford Lot. -
As was already said, it’s leased by Disney, not owned. A private investment group owns it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1500_Broadway https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamares_Group

I meant the Times Square building. Cause Times Square Studio is owned by Disney iirc.
-
Didn’t the prior set have surfboard wings on their desk as it was circular like CBS This Morning?
-
The new one? The Disney Company. As for the Concerts, it probably wouldn't be bad to eliminate them, at least as a weekly thing. They used to be a big ratings grabber because they used to get big names and well-knowns every week. Now, it seems to be mostly up-and-comers and lesser-knowns. It was partly a way to keep viewers tuned in during the Summer and especially to pull them in on Fridays. It made the sponsor, the network, and the corporation (GE, Comcast, Disney) happy. It made them money, as did the artists and bands. While the shows are still profitable, they are not as profitable as they once were and certainly don't get the ratings they once did, even when they go with a well-known artist.
-
Just only seen pics and vids on the socials, but this looks like a downgrade, this is coming from a guy who thought the last studio set was amazing and felt it was probably the best in San Diego.. The surfboard screens look so gimmicky. I, too, am concerned about anchors falling off their chairs from the back? Those chairs better have brakes. Fox5 also had a nice patio space area, I'm not really into KUSI's outdoor space. I was hoping that this set and KUSI's would be designed similarly to KTLA's and WPIX's.

Apologies for hijacking this post, but @bennettmonk, please stop with your irritating reactions; there was nothing funny about this post. You make no comments here. I don't know how else to bring sunlight to this, but these inappropriate reactions must stop, and I have all interactions with them blocked, but for some reason, their reactions cannot be blocked from view no matter what I try, and it's needless notification junk/noise if you're never going to do more than react and not contribute.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

I expect we’ll see more of this. In the last few months WUSA added a 7am, 8am, 12:30pm, and a 6:30pm all on streaming.- 3698 replies

The best explanation I can give is that having a long pad on a video playing out of a server in automation is playing with fire. Let's say, hypothetically, there are 4 video playback outputs from the video server here. three normal for vos, sots, pkgs, etc, one keyable for show opens, animations, and other fancy production elements where the video comes in/out over the elements surrounding it. Have the keyable open with 3 seconds of audio pad on it, the playback file will end, and the automation will cue up the next element assigned to play out of that channel automatically. Have the keyable open with 30 seconds of trailing/fading audio pad on it, and there's another element set to play from the keyable channel within the first 30 seconds after the show open, most likely the automation will automatically eject the open animation while the trailing audio is still playing and will cue up the next element set to come out of that keyable channel in time for it to be clean - but it just isn't worth the risk in a situation where the automation director would have to verify the right element is cued up, or manually advance the playback channel to the next element during a busy top of a newscast.

Who owns the building itself?
-
Disney leases the building. They are giving up the lease.

Whats with that awful abrupt end to the opening theme when the anchor are doing their introduction? Horrible. Ive noticed more and more newscasts have this. I imagine its a result of everything being automated. Terrible. Why is that allowed.
